Arc-1 Chapter-14: What is Wild Boar Hunting?

The battle is decided before it even begins. That's what the old and modern military strategists are saying. That isn't only limited to battle between humans. Even if the opponent is a wild boar, the outcome is determined by the assumptions made in beforehand.

"Yukiho, don't make a sound."

"Okay...!"

First things first, I quickly assessed the situation. Fortunately the wind is currently blowing towards us, so there is little chance of it detecting us by scent. We can also determine the route back from the foot prints we left.

It's not easy to hunt a boar of that size, even if we have a hunting riffle there is still the possibility that it will escape, and all we have are knives and axes made of stones. Still, the conditions aren't bad. The terrain is flat and easy to move on, and there are no other creatures around. I also know how to fight a wild boar.

"Now, lets do this."

"What do you want me to do?"

"You're going to stay here and support me. I'm going to basically fight it on my own."

"But it's dangerous. We should fight together."

"I know how you feel, but it'll be more dangerous that way."

"Is it because I'm useless....?"

"No. It's because all we have us melee weapons, there is a chance that we'll hit each other. We can't very well give it our all if we're afraid of hitting each other now can't we. This way we could utilize our full strength."

"Ah, I see...that is true."

"So I'll go in alone. If I'm in danger, You can provide support from the flanks. If needed I'll give you instructions on what to do."

"All right."

"Stay put till I call for you."

"Okay."

I pulled out my knife and held it with my left hand as I sneaked to the side, the boar's blind spot. The boar is currently absorbed in it's meal, I wonder if those are mushroom it's eating.

I quietly creeped up but during the process I accidently stepped on a twig. The sound caused the boar to turn and our eyes met. My surprise attack failed. The only option left is a head-on confrontation. However, it is still not out of the realm of possibility, so no problem.

"Uooooo!"

The first thing I did was jumping at it. I aim my axe at the boar's head, and hit my mark. However, the wound isn't fatal so it's still alive and moving. Since it's a handmade axe out of stone, when I stuck it's head the handle snapped off.

"Gu-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o!"

The boar lunged at me with the broken axe stuck in its head.

"Whoa...!" I stepped to the side narrowly avoided it, if it had hit me several ribs would have been broken.

Thud! The boar crashed into a tree and the axe that was stuck in it's head fell out.

"Bu~o! Bu~o!"

Judging from the fact that it turned around and is now facing me again, it probably isn't interested in escaping.

"Yukiho! Throw the stone axe at it! Do it now! I don't care if it misses!"

"Throw it!?"

"That's right! Hurry up!"

"Copy that!"

With a running start Yukiho throws the stone axe at the boar, and as expected, the speed is too slow and probably won't do any damage to it. But that's fine, the goal isn't to do damage, I just need it to land near the boar and that'll be enough.

The axe she released missed the boar but hit the tree next to it instead.

"Bu~o?" The boar's attention turns to Yukiho and that's exactly what I was aiming for.

"You did it, Yukiho!"

Aiming for the heart, he switch his knife to his right hand and dashed to the side of the boar closing the distance. However, the boar shifted a little so it's going to hit the liver instead. But that's good enough.

"Bu~ooooooooooooooo!!!!!"

This time it was a critical hit. The boar screamed, pushed me away, and ran off with my knife still in its belly.

"Daikichi-Kun! Are you okay?!" Yukiho ran up to me.

"I took a blow to the back, but I'm fine. Let's go after him."

He picks up Yukiho's stone axe and stands up.

"Yukiho, your throw earlier was perfect. Thanks for the help."

"Hehe, I'm glad I could be of service to you, Daikichi-kun!"

"You keep the stone axe, and I'll take the knife. I'm going to finish him off."

"Okay!"

I took the knife from Yukiho and we went after the boar.

Tracking it is easy, we just followed the blood trail.

"There."

I spotted the boar near the river, it didn't seem to have the energy to run as it is just staggering. It then went down the riverbank, I broke into a run to close the distance. The boar tries to get up but it could not move.

"This is it!"

I delivered the final blow, this time firmly in it's heart. The boar let out a high-pitched squeal and died.

"We did it! We won!"

"Yayyyy! That's amazing, Daikichi-kun! You killed such a big boar! You're so cool!"

"It's not just my achievement. It was because of Yukiho---"

"What's wrong?"

"I guess I took more damage than I thought when I got shoved earlier. I'm starting to feel the pain."

"Will you be okay?!"

"No problem. Let's take care of the wild boar first. Now that we've killed it, we should eat it properly."

"Okay. What do you want me to do?"

"I'll need help to hang it on a tree so it'll be easier to work with."

"Got it!"

We worked together and brought the boar to a nearby tree and hung it by the leg. I then took out a knife to dismantle it, and Yukiho took out the handheld camera to record the process.

"You know you can't use this stuff on TV."

"I'm still going to film it!"

There are many edible parts of a wild boar, that is if you can get pass the smell of course.

Unfortunately we lack the necessary environment to disperse the smell. We had also damaged too many internal organs during the fight so we got less meat from it. Still, we got more than enough meat for the two of us to eat.

"I really want to make good use of the fur and bones, but this time we'll just eat the meat and be done with it. Yukiho, would you mind making a fire for me? I need it to cook the meat."

Yukiho's face lit up and nodded while saying, "Leave it to me!"

"I've been given a job by Daikichi-kun! I have to do my best!" Yukiho clenched her fist.

She is just too cute.

"Haha, then I'll leave it to you."

While Yukiho worked on the fire I went to wash the meat in the river. It's easier for me to do this since the work is gross and it wasn't pleasant to touch raw meat. So I decided to do it.

"The fire is ready!"

"I'm all set to go."

I sliced the boar meat into thin slices, then stick it on a tree branch to grill it. When it was done we masked the smell with curry powder and ate it.

"Delicious! It's so good, Daikichi-kun!"

"Yep, this is great."

Food you catch yourself tastes great! The wild boar we just ate was delicious, as was the river fish the other day.

"Daikichi-kun, please don't take pictures of my face right now."

"What's the matter?" he asked, looking at Yukiho's face and noticing that the juices from the wild boar had made her lips all shiny.

"I need to film this."

I took a picture of Yukiho with the handheld camera that I kept nearby.

"I told you not to take pictures."

"Don't be shy. You're wild and covered in gravy. Come on, smile, smile!"

"Baka! Daikichi-kun no baka!"

As an amateur, I had no idea if the viewers would be happy to see such a video.

Ping~

Yukiho's emergency cell phone rang.

"Get back here!" It was a message that the president and the staff  of the program had arrived.

"Finally. I want to take a bath first when I get back."

"Yes! Let's go take a private bath at the hotel!"

"Oh, look how bold you've become. The cameras are rolling as we speak, remember?"

"I'm over it!"

Ehehe, Yukiho smiles at me.

The smile on her face was so cute that it made the bridge of my nose flare up.

I want to say to the viewers all over the country, "How about it! Aren't you jealous! You must be jealous!"
