As soon as he stepped into the small clinic, a young nurse immediately recognised Yu Le, “It’s Xiao Yu, I haven’t seen you come in for a while!” She greeted him enthusiastically. Tilting her head curiously, she looked at the man wearing a hat and sunglasses behind him, “Is this one of your friends? It’s rare to see you bring someone with you.”
Yu Le thought about this question for a moment, coming to the conclusion that though his relationship with Yu Youzhi had been improving recently, it was still far from the level of being friends.
Not a fan, but not a stranger.
So, what was his relationship with Yu Youzhi?
Normally, he wouldn’t have fallen into such deep thoughts from such a question, but he had been asked this not only by this girl in front of him but also by Zhu Luo. But he was never the type to struggle with his thoughts, and this time was no exception.
If he couldn’t think of a definite answer, then he wouldn’t try.
As for what Yu Youzhi thought about this issue, it wasn’t within his scope of concern for the time being.
On the contrary, he was more concerned with the little nurse’s attitude and asked, “Did I come here often before?”
“Ah…often,” his question obviously confused the nurse, but she still answered it seriously, “but I haven’t seen you for quite a while now.”
Yu Youzhi stood behind him, coldly and silently.
It wasn’t until the nurse pointed to the room behind her saying that the doctor was inside and left that he stepped forward. Leaning over, he whispered in Yu Le’s ear, a little aggrieved, “Aren’t we friends now?”
“Hush, that doesn’t matter,” Yu Youzhi’s hot breath fell on his neck. Twisting awkwardly to avoid it, he pushed the other away, “Don’t talk to me like that.”
As if he didn’t hear him at all, Yu Youzhi patted his head and whispered in a nasally voice, “Yu Le, tell me, how can I become your friend?”
Yu Le was about to lose it. Right before he opened his mouth to say something, the man behind him withdrew. He rubbed his suddenly cold neck, “Come on, let’s go ask the doctor what’s going on.”
Yu Youzhi walked past him, managing a wonderfully cold side glance with his taller height. Although not much was exposed on his face, from the slight profile he could see, the expression was chilling.
Was he angry?
But he had no time to delve into this issue, already arriving in the back room with the doctor. The doctor was a middle-aged man who dressed quite casually. His white coat was worn like a rag, and he sat with his legs slung over his desk in the consulting room. He even whistled at the two of them as they entered.
However, his tired eyes were deep, as if they had accumulated a lot of wisdom in life.
As he recognised them coming in, his first greeting words were, “Student Xiao Yu! I didn’t expect to see you alive again!”
“…?”
Both of them were stunned when they heard this. Yu Youzhi took a step forward, pointed to Yu Le next to him and almost asked on his behalf, “Was his desire to live so low before?”
The doctor just looked at him, “Who are you?”
This was the second time he had received this question in just ten minutes. This time, Yu Le had a better answer, “Someone I know.”
“Oh, someone you know.” The doctor rubbed his chin and didn’t ask any more questions. He responded to Yu Youzhi’s question instead, “Well, I prescribed a whole year’s worth of that medicine last time. That day, I thought we would never meet again.”
Yu Youzhi blinked, “Did you think he was going to use that medicine to commit suicide?”
“No, never. I just thought that after taking all that medicine he wouldn’t have any need to see me, what with his life being so full of vigour and health and all.”
Hearing this, Yu Le interrupted to ask, “Are there any side effects of taking a large amount of the medicine you had prescribed? For example, memory impairment, schizophrenia, etc?”
The doctor burst into laughter, “Xiao Yu, if you take a large amount of it, you will go insane and become a fool. And that’s only the best result, the worst would be death on the spot~.”
Yu Youzhi turned his head to look at Yu Le, but still directed his question towards the doctor. His tone was more curious than concerned as he wondered, “In that case, why did you prescribe him such a large dose?”
“You’d have to ask him,” the man in the white coat spread his hands helplessly, “Generally, the people who come to me have a compelling reason of their own, right? They should have the right to choose their future themselves. And since they would have to exhaust all their means to find me here, as a doctor, as long as I receive the appropriate fee, I will respect the choice of my patient.” Saying this, he winked at Yu Youzhi, “Of course, this includes the person next to you. Student Xiao Yu who has just graduated from senior year and is at the height of his youth.”
Yu Le thought about it, and felt that the doctor was right.
But he didn’t intend to tell him the truth about what had happened, so he lied and said that he had had a high fever after taking the medicine and forgot many things, so he wanted to come and ask the doctor about what he had done before.
The doctor nodded and touched his chin, not asking anything. He seemed to have accepted what he said, “I don’t remember you doing anything special. You came over to chat with me from time to time, saying that you felt living was very painful and begging me to solve the problem of your multiple personality disorder. You told me about a crush you had on someone, but due to your multiple personalities you were always afraid of hurting him…and that you were always in pain…But I am not a psychiatrist, and I don’t understand this field of mental illness very well. So as a friend, maybe only barely a friend, I gave you a suggestion that was quite irresponsible now that I think about it. I suggested that you get rid of the root cause.”
Yu Le listened to what the doctor said without expressing anything, asking more questions once he finished speaking.
The doctor answered all the details faithfully, such as his state during that time, what he said, and the plans he had.
After listening indifferently, it was basically all the same as what he had remembered and pieced together, there was nothing particularly noteworthy.
“I feel like I didn’t learn any useful information.”
As he was leaving, Yu Le asked the doctor to prescribe another year’s worth of small white pills.
But a very embarrassing thing happened at this time, he hadn’t brought enough money.
The doctor smiled, “Although I like you as a patient very much, it is my professional ethics to settle the account first, even if I might consider you a friend.”
The subtext was obvious, without paying first, there would be no medicine.
These drugs actually cost quite a bit, and Yu Le’s part-time salary was simply not enough to cover them. He could only turn his head and look at Yu Youzhi next to him.
Yu Youzhi didn’t seem to agree, but he didn’t refuse. He leaned over and whispered in his ear in a slightly intimate posture, “I can help, but there are conditions~”
He blinked, “What conditions?”
“If you want to use this method to deal with the personality lurking in your body, then at least let me stay by your side while you do so.” Yu Youzhi’s pleasant voice echoed in his ears, “I don’t want to meet you and all of a sudden find you’ve become a stranger.”
“Sure!” Yu Le nodded cheerfully, “You can pay now!”
“Student Xiao Yu,” before they left the doors of the small clinic, the carefree voice of the doctor rang out, “Since you have been granted a new life, please live well. Don’t try and dig up trouble as you chase the past.”
Yu Le turned around and saw the unattractive doctor smiling at him.
For a moment, he felt that the doctor’s gaze held secrets he hadn’t shared as if he had understood everything.
But that must have been his misunderstanding.
After returning from the small clinic, Yu Youzhi followed him all the way back to his apartment.
It was getting late now, and as he reached the gate to his community, he thanked the other party seriously and was about to say goodbye, but the man just blinked in response.
“It’s already so late and I’m hungry…” Yu Youzhi made an expectant face, “Let’s go get groceries and have dinner together?”
“…Why?”
Yu Youzhi took his response as a sign that Yu Le hadn’t understood his question. He stretched out a finger and explained, “Just like the ordinary couples in TV series, they go to the supermarket, buy groceries and make a meal.”
Yu Le was quiet, realising the subtext of Yu Youzhi’s words and looked at him strangely, “You mean…you want to stay tonight?”
Blinking, Yu Youzhi replied as if it was a matter of course, “Obviously, what else would I be doing?” Seeing Yu Le’s reaction, he opened his mouth slightly, “Yu Le, are you already going back on your word? You just allowed me to stay with you in the future.”
Yu Le frowned, not very willing, “But I didn’t say I’d let you move in.” He knew that the other man was thick-skinned, but he didn’t expect he could actually be so shameless as to invite himself over like this. “My house is small, the bed is narrow, and I don’t have many commodities for you…” He tried to persuade Yu Youzhi.
But the other party just frowned, “No! I don’t feel at ease if I don’t stay by your side. Who knows what you’ll do if I leave you alone.”
Yu Le disagreed, “I won’t mess around, I want to live too.”
“Well, I still want to stay anyway.”
Just as Yu Le couldn’t control his body’s underlying feelings, he couldn’t smooth over Yu Youzhi’s main trait as a green tea.
He had no choice but to bring the man upstairs, “My room is very small and there is only one bedroom, so you’ll have to sleep in the living room…” he rambled on while leading the other to the couch.
Yu Youzhi followed along obediently, nodding his head, “Don’t worry, I’m not picky.”
“That’s good,” Yu Le responded absently, taking his key to open the door with a click.
