Jiang ChengLi’s birthday was on March 17th. Shi Yu and Lian Jing bought the present in advance on the weekend. The newest pair of sneakers had just hit the market, and Shi Yu grabbed them with a little extra money. Lian Jing said he couldn’t go to Jiang’s house, so he passed his gift to Shi Yu and asked him to bring it to Jiang ChengLi.
The first of these was a set of physics problems that Shi Yu stayed up late at night to finish. When it was almost time, he typed a sentence on his phone.
[Happy Birthday.]
But when the zero hour had just passed, he hadn’t sent it immediately. He waited a little more than two minutes, and then pretended that he was not waiting to send it.
To his surprise, Jiang ChengLi replied in seconds: [Thanks, not sleeping?]
Shi Yu said that he was still writing the questions, when Jiang ChengLi’s voice call came.
Shi Yu looked at the caller ID, panicked for a second and answered without speaking. The caller also seemed to be patiently waiting for him, since there was no sound. Shi Yu felt a little awkward, so he spoke first, “Happy birthday.”
“Haven’t you already said that?” Jiang ChengLi’s words hid a subtle smile. He asked, “Did this call bother you?”
Shi Yu looked at the world past midnight and wasn’t sure how to answer, so he asked, “Isn’t the President resting? Tomorrow is your birthday, shouldn’t it be quite grand?”
The Jiang family’s son’s coming-of-age ceremony. How could it be just a small gathering of ordinary people?
“My mom took the liberty. I didn’t used to do this on my birthday.” Jiang ChengLi suddenly said, “If you come tomorrow, I will try to accompany you.” When he heard Shi Yu’s slightly puzzled hmmm, Jiang ChengLi added, “My mom invited quite a few of my classmates.”
Shi Yu suppressed the strange emotions that had just passed by. It was also true that many people wanted to have a good relationship with the Jiang family, so how could he take Jiang ChengLi’s words as his own?
Shi Yu felt a little embarrassed and whispered, “Then you get some rest early. I’m ready to sleep.”
“Okay, good night.”
After he hung up the phone, Shi Yu shuffled out and found that Jiang ChengLi had sent him a few pictures after the voice call ended.
Only at the end did he add: [Good night, really sleeping.]
It was the little ice dragon who was lying asleep on his pillow. The little one was curled up in a ball on the pillow and was so cute that it instantly aroused Shi Yu’s heart’s little desire.
The little ice dragon himself, who had finished posing, stared at Shi Yu’s dialog box for half a day to make sure that he was using the little dragon cub to completely capture Shi Yu’s attention. He waited until the phrase [good night] before he slowly waved his tail and fell on the pillow with a snap.
The time given by Mrs. Jiang was 5:00 p.m. Shi Yu was ready to go out at 4:00 p.m. When he left his room with his gift, Shi Yu saw Alice, with a fever patch that was falling off her head, as she stood at the stairway.
The direction of the girl’s gaze was obviously his side, but when she met his eyes, she looked away slightly and coughed.
Shi Yu frowned and asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
Alice slowly squatted down, hugged her knees and said in a small voice, “I’m dizzy.”
Because of school problems, Shi Lan and Tang Yi flew back overseas with their two sons. Shi Yu heard that the earliest they would be back was tomorrow.
Shi Yu thought they were all on the plane. He hadn’t expected that Alice was left behind. He opened his phone. Shi Lan hadn’t left him any messages, and even Tang Yi hadn’t mentioned it.
Alice noticed his movements and whispered, “I told them that I told you. They were in a hurry to catch a plane and didn’t send you a message.”
Shi Yu put down his things and went to her side. He gently opened his hands and asked in a low voice, “Can I hold you?”
Alice hesitated and gave a small nod.
Shi Yu picked her up and carefully touched her forehead. It was indeed a bit hot. While he walked towards her room he asked, “Why didn’t you tell me if you were uncomfortable?”
Alice lay on his shoulder, pursed her lips and said in a very small voice, “I thought you didn’t like me.”
Shi Yu pushed the door of her room with a little pause, then tenderly laid the little girl on her bed and put the fever patch on her forehead again, “I don’t dislike you. Are you thirsty? Do you want some water?”
Alice nodded. Shi Yu turned around and poured a glass of warm water for her. He called a car with his cell phone, and positioned it for the City Heart Hospital.
Shi Yu was still a bit distracted when he carried water upstairs. He felt out of place in this home, and instinctively erected a high wall of self-protection. He hadn’t thought that it would hurt others. The little girl in his arms was light and fluffy like a ball of cotton, and so sick that it hurt him, but still so cautiously afraid of his feelings.
Shi Yu suddenly felt that he really wasn’t qualified.
After he handed the water to the little girl, Shi Yu first left a message for Shi Lan and then found the thermometer.
Thirty-eight degrees Celsius. Definitely a fever. He helped the girl put on her mask and jacket, found a pair of light pink socks and crouched by the bed to put them on for her. Alice was still a little confused because she was sick. Her small feet rubbed together anxiously as she whispered, “I can do it myself.”
Shi Yu lowered his head and hesitated for a long time before he whispered back, “I am also your gege.”
Alice slowly looked up. Her pair of beautiful eyes slightly widened, as if she found it completely unexpected that the usually cold and distant-looking person was now positioning himself as an elder she could rely on.
Unexpectedly, she wanted to cry and wiped her eyes as put her feet into her socks. Shi Yu put on her shoes for her. She asked slowly, “Aren’t you going out?”
Shi Yu then remembered who he had overlooked. He hesitated for a moment before he picked up Alice, “Let’s go to the hospital first.”
In the car, he sent a message to Jiang ChengLi to clarify the situation. He apologized quite sincerely and promised to give him his gift tomorrow.
Jiang ChengLi seemed to be very busy, since it took half an hour to send him a message back: [It’s nothing, your sister’s health is important.]
Shi Yu looked at the reply, then accompanied Alice to get an infusion. The little girl was very nervous in the unfamiliar environment, and forced herself not to cry out, but she still pursed her lips when she saw the nurse was coming.
Shi Yu squatted beside her and gently held her right hand while he covered her eyes with his left. “Don’t be afraid. It will be fine soon.”
The little girl nodded slightly. Her long, thick eyelashes crossed his palm, a little itchy.
The needle pierced into the blood vessel while Shi Yu softly held her trembling fingertips and used his most gentle voice to soothe, “Pain, pain, fly away.”
Alice was quiet for a while, then suddenly laughed in a small voice.
Shi Yu saw that she was feeling better, and finally he relaxed. “From now on, wherever you are uncomfortable, tell me, okay?”
Alice dropped her eyelashes and nodded her head slightly, as if exchanging gifts. She also said to him, “Then if you feel lonely in the future, you also tell me.”
Shi Yu was stunned. His eyes drooped, “Okay.”
When Jiang ChengLi found the two in the infusion area at eight o’clock, the little girl had fallen asleep in Shi Yu’s arms. The omega was holding her, motionless. His eyes had fallen to the side of the little girl’s face, as he quietly looked at her.
The light fell on Shi Yu’s outline and created a faint shadow, it seemed even his eyelashes were gracefully falling.
Jiang ChengLi stood in place. He felt like his heart was being gently rubbed.
