"I wouldn't say that," Damien refused to take credit for doing such a miraculous thing. "I was just lucky; since the heart of that beastmen stopped only for a few minutes, I was able to rescue him, but if it was any later than that, I don't think I could have saved him."
There was always a time limit while saving any patients; admitting that he saved a man who died would only bring trouble.
"You mean to say that the skill that you used comes with a time limit?" Robert was slightly disappointed when he heard Damien say that he couldn't bring just anyone to life. But after a pause, he suppressed the disappointment and asked, "Can you tell me which spell you used to save that dying man?"
"I did not use any kind of spell," Damien told the healer.
"What do you mean? You mean to say that you saved that man without using a spell?"
"Of course," Damien nodded and stated, "I don't even have a beastcore and a proper supply of mana, how can I use a spell?"
Robert's face went slack as he looked at Damien in shock. "Then how did you save that man's life?"
"I just gave him CPR," Damien replied as he explained the functions and the process of CPR to the healer.
At first the man was stunned, but the more he listened to Damien's explanation, the more his eyes shone with excitement. He stepped forward and shook hands with Damien.
He exclaimed, "Ingenious! Really brilliant. I never expected that such a process even existed. Was it your master who taught you this?"
"No," Damien laughed as he shrugged his shoulders and let Claw sit on it. "Where will a beastman like me with a broken core find a master? I learnt it on my own."
"You discovered it on your own?" Robert gasped, but then he stepped forward and right into Damien's personal space. "Can you teach me this skill? I am sure that this skill can be helpful for us healers. If possible, we too would like to make use of this skill and save as many lives as possible."
"I don't think that —"
"Please," Robert said to Damien with his eyes filled with determination. "I would also like to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation."
"I am even willing to pay for it."
Xavier watched Robert request Damien to teach him CPR and was quite surprised. He did hear from others about this skill, but he did not think much of it as he had seen Damien do even greater things.
He, however, never expected that the skill was so useful that even a healer was willing to learn it.
Damien couldn't refuse the enthusiasm of the healer, but before he could say anything, he heard a loud, booming voice behind him,
"Good lad, Robert! You are actually trying to steal my research partner?"
Damien was not even an awakened rank beastman at the moment.
How could he take a superior rank down?
Even if he had some skills, Lexiel was way above his station.
"That's right," the man mocked Damien from the second floor. "If I were you, I would lower my head and live my days peacefully. Don't try to act like someone that you are not."
He then turned to look at Lord Godric. "You know that I am the greatest beast man, old man. As long as you give me the resources that you waste on others, I will definitely climb to the transcendental rank."
"So, why don't you give it up."
Once he was done, he turned on his feet and walked away.
"That damned," Levi stopped in the middle of his curse and then strode away. He picked up a mission crudely from the mission board and marched out of the guild.
"I will come later on, Lord Damien." Robert did not expect that such a small matter would escalate so drastically. He bowed his head and left the guild as well, while Gavin snorted and walked over to Lord Godric.
Damien on the hand headed to the bar and questioned, "Who was he? And why did he give so many sermons?"
Gina sighed. Her face looked tired as she replied, "He is Lord Godric's grandson. Like Merium, he is a superior rank beast man. You can also consider him as the top candidate for the next guild master after Lord Godric."
"If he is the next guild master, then I will sell my soul to the devil in exchange for Lord Godric's long life," Damien muttered. He could not understand why this Lexiel guy suddenly went crazy just now. It did not seem like he did anything that offended that bastard.
"Don't take his words to heart," Gina poured pumpkin juice in a flask and handed it to the young woman sitting three seats away from Damien. "Lexiel doesn't respect anyone. Even his grandfather. He believes that he is better than the rest, thus the superiority complex."
"This is not the first time such a thing has happened."
Damien nodded.
"Why did you come to the guild today? Do you want to take a mission?" Gina asked.
"No," Damien shook his head when he thought about the matter from yesterday. He asked her, "Do you have cheese?"
He went to the kitchen of the Wolfe family last night and did not find any; thus, he could only come to the guild in hope that he would be able to get lucky here.
"Cheese?" Gina blinked her eyes. "Yes, we do have a block, but how do you need it? Do I need to slice it or grill it with biscuits?"
"Just the block, please," there was something that he needed to do with it.
