The next day eventually came and Alexandra woke up, slightly feeling better than yesterday night but she still has a cold. She fluttered her eyes open and she sat up from her position, hoisting her upper torso up with her arms.
The warm light that came from the sun passed through the open window and Alexandra could hear the song the birds were singing, the sound of the leaves rustling although it was faint and low. What time is it? It looked like it was still early in the morning, 7 probably. She looked around the room, she guessed that she was probably inside one of the rooms in her father's palace, a guest room probably, but this is way too big to be a guest room. It's almost the size of my room. This probably where those high-ranking nobles stay in.
After what happened yesterday night where I cried against Harrison's chest, I can't recall what happened next right after that, she thought to herself and let out a sneeze. My nose feels itchy and my throat still hurts. When is Diana going to arrive? Should I just go out? Carlos is probably outside—
Then as if on cue, the door was swung open gently, cutting her train of thoughts and grabbing her attention. She turned her head towards the door and she saw Diana. Their eyes met and Alexandra blinked multiple times, "Eh? Young miss? You're already awake," Diana walked towards her, relief written all over her face. Since it looked like she has no signs of waking up yesterday, Diana was worried and thought that Alexandra might still be asleep.
"A-Ah, Diana, good morning," Her voice was raspy and low, she doesn't want to speak too much and increase the volume of her voice because if she did, it will add to the pain on her throat. "Good morning, how are you feeling?" Diana asked her as she sat down on the bed, near her. Diana placed the back of her hand against her forehead to feel her temperature, "My throat hurts and I can't breathe properly through my nose but aside from that, I'm feeling fine," Alexandra responded.
"Well, that's true, you looked better than yesterday. Rowan told us that you only need a few days of rest until you fully recover, maybe tomorrow, you will be fine. It is because of the cold that your throat is hurting and you have a runny nose which makes it hard to breathe, this is due to your carelessness that you are put in this situation," Diana said and lightly pushed Alexandra's forehead with her index and middle anger.
"I'm sorry…"
Diana could only let out a sigh before she stood up. "Well, are you hungry? You still have to take your medicine but you can't do that when your stomach is empty, just wait here and I will go get your food," Diana said as she stood up and she smiled at Alexandra after she spoke. Alexandra tilted her head to the side and smiled back at Diana.
She turned her heel around and walked towards the door of the room, her light footsteps were the only thing heard as she walked and she was about to grab the knob when the door was suddenly swung open and thankfully, since Diana wasn't standing in front of the pathway of the door but beside it, it didn't hit her when it was abruptly swung open. What emerged out of it were 3 people that Alexandra never expected to see except for one person.
"Excuse me, we're here for Alexandra, is she already awake?!"
"How could she not be awake when you opened the door loudly and your voice is way too loud?"
"Shut up, you bookworm."
"Quite an insult, brother."
It was Christian along with Chandler and Gilbert. Quite a weird and unexpected trio, to think that I would see them three together when they really don't get along at all, Alexandra thought to herself as her smile widened and the expression on her face brightened. Their gazes met and Christian smiled at her, "You're awake. Did Brother Chandler's voice wake you up? I apologize for that," Christian said as he approached her following behind him were Chandler and Gilbert.
The princes are here, Diana thought to herself as she watched Alexandra's brothers walked towards the bed where Alexandra is. She also walked towards where Alexandra is and stood beside the bed. "Blessings and Glory for the Queenilia Empire," Diana greeted them as she bowed her head towards the princes who entered the room. "Ah, Miss Diana, a pleasant morning. You were also here. I apologize if we didn't notice you," Christian was polite as usual and he greeted her back and apologized for ignoring her.
"No, I should apologize for not greeting you anytime sooner."
"It's fine really and we came here unannounced. We are also here to bring Alexandra's food although we weren't sure earlier if she was already awake."
"Eh, your majesty did?"
Diana lifted her head and her eyes darted at Gilbert's direction, instead of carrying a book, he was carrying a tray filled with food that is obviously for Alexandra. There was also a slice of chocolate cake even though she wasn't allowed to eat that because of her throat.
"I apologize once again. That task should be done by me as her maid yet you did it."
"It's fine. It was our decision and probably payback for all the things that she did to us. You were the one who made the cookies, right? As well as the other baked sweets? The one that Alexandra gave us before? I sincerely thank you for that, it was all delicious," Again, it was Christian who did the talking. It looks like Christian gained the confidence and courage to talk with anyone especially to a person who he rarely talks to. If he didn't, it's either Chandler or Gilbert who would do it but their responses would always be short, she thought to herself and couldn't help but smile once again.
"I'm glad that you liked it, your majesty," Diana said.
Then Alexandra's stomach grumbled grabbing their attention, all of their eyes were on her and Alexandra couldn't help but get embarrassed, her cheeks flushed with red. From all the times that my stomach decided to make a noise, why now? She asked herself as she lowered her head down, the embarrassment was too much.
Christian let out a small chuckle before he spoke, "It looks like Alexandra is already hungry, we shouldn't make her wait that long just to eat her food," Christian said and he dragged a nearby chair near hair, Chandler did the same as well as Gilbert but before Gilbert did, he gave the tray of food to Diana first. And when they finally did, they sat down on it and Alexandra began eating, she doesn't need any help or for someone to feed her. She can do it by herself and someone feeding her is quite embarrassing. Seeing the slice of the chocolate cake, she was trying her best to ignore the pain in her throat. Just for this once, it seems like Diana allowed me since she didn't say anything about it, she thought to herself.
"Please be careful, Alexandra still hasn't recovered from her cold," Diana was worried that the princes would also catch a cold from her and that would be problematic knowing how it easily spreads.
"And they say idiots don't catch a cold," Chandler commented and leaned back on his seat, a smug look on his face as if he was proud of calling Alexandra an idiot. Alexandra stopped eating and was about to say anything when Gilbert spoke first and interrupted what she was about to say. "Alexandra is the only idiot who catches a cold," Wow, aside from Harrison thinking and calling her an idiot, there were also two other people and it was her brothers.
"It's normal for a person to catch a cold," Alexandra could only say and she continued eating. "By the way, after this, would you like to take a walk around the garden? It might make you feel better," Christian said with a smile on his face and Alexandra thought for a moment before she responded to his question, "If Diana allows me to," Was what she said and she continued eating.
"The young miss looked better than she was yesterday and taking a walk around the garden is not that bad. Her personal knight should come with her though," Diana responded. Although there would be three princes along with their personal knights coming with her, it would still be better if Carlos would come with them. "Then it's decided, Alexandra would take a walk around the garden with us after she eats," Chandler said. The feeling of not being hated anymore by the person who hates you the most feels so nice and refreshing, Alexandra thought to herself and her expression brightened.
"Come to think of it, where are your personal knights? When you entered the room, your knights looked like they weren't with you," Alexandra asked them. "They are outside. Your personal knight also tried to stop us from entering because he thinks that you were still asleep and it was still early in the morning," Gilbert responded.
They already had breakfast earlier together and they finished it early just to deliver Alexandra's breakfast. They took it in the kitchen and somehow, argued with the chef telling them that it should be the maids who would do it but Chandler… Let's just say that he scared them.
Alexandra just hummed as a response and she took a bite from the chocolate cake. "After eating that chocolate cake, you should drink a full glass of water," She heard Diana say who was standing beside her. Ah, that's why she just let me be but it's not like drinking a full glass of water is not a problem in exchange of eating one full slice of cake, she thought to herself and nodded as a response as she took another bite from the cake with a delighted expression on her face.
Then the door opened once again, but this time, it was swung gently unlike Chandler who abruptly opened it and spoke right after in a loud voice which startled her. There, two males were seen. It was Brother Calixander along with her father, Alexander. Alexandra almost choked from the cake that she was eating seeing them together. All of her brothers, as well as her father, was here inside this one room, it looked like she has a very serious illness because they were all gathered here together.
"Oh, Alexandra, you're awake. And why are you three here early in the morning even before us?" Christian greeted them and his eyes darted towards his three brothers who were sitting each of the chairs that surrounded the bed. "Good morning, brother," Chandler and Calixander both said in unison while Gilbert just nodded his head towards his brother.
"Well, nevermind that, it looked like all of us are gathered here together. It's quite unusual, I bought some fruits," Calixander said and walked towards the bed, carrying a basket filled with fruits. Wow, and he even bought fruits, Alexandra thought to herself and a giggle accidentally escaped from her mouth. It looked like a hospital visit.
"What's funny?"
"Nothing."
Alexandra continued eating and she took one last bite from the cake that she was eating. It looked like her walk with her brothers would be delayed for a little longer since their father and their eldest brother arrived but it's not like she doesn't hate it. Seeing her family gathered here together just for her was making her feel soft, warm, and fuzzy inside.
"You looked better than before, I hope that you will fully recover tomorrow," Her father spoke.
"Thank you, papa."
This is the first time that someone visited her and delivered her food as well as fruits when she was sick. Back then, in her previous life, while she was trying to survive by doing multiple jobs at once, she would get sick but nobody was there to nurse her. Even before when her mother was alive, her mother would always apologize because she has to leave for work since her boss would get angry and they wouldn't have money. So seeing her family here just to visit her while she was sick was making her happy.
"All of you, thank you."
"For what?"
Alexandra just smiled at them leaving them confused and curious why she suddenly thanked them. Thank you for being here with me, thank you for being my family.
