It took them an hour or probably less than an hour to just to finish reading the book while Alexandra would just sit on the couch and do nothing but just stare at the ceiling or talk with her personal knight with some random topics as to get rid of the thoughts inside her head and to distract her.
They are pretty fast readers since they read and write all day, getting stuck in their offices, so it's no wonder that they were able to finish it pretty fast. The book was thin anyway and Alexandra read it pretty fast too though she has to do some pauses to digest the information that she got.
Aside from the truth about their bloodline being revealed, what Katelyn went through with his husband and family was written there. How she was being treated by everyone and such things. What she went through during the battles that she fought and how her ability was very much harmful to her that it was like killing her every time she uses it.
Though this was like a diary for Katelyn but there would be one entry every month or two which summarizes what happened during that time. She started writing 15 years after she married the emperor, a week after she gave birth to a female who was killed afterward and she wrote this for almost 3 years, gathered all the information that she got, and wrote it all down. Her words weren't that complicated and her tone sounded casual, it doesn't sound sophisticated or something as this was like a diary.
'The previous two months were awful.
If I would describe it properly, it was like I have gone through hell. It was like the flower that I have taken care of for weeks and I loved very much have died and withered. It was awful that I couldn't describe it into words properly.
To summarize it, I wasn't able to attend the battle as I was pregnant and I just gave birth last week. But the baby died. No, the baby survived but it was killed. She was killed by none other than their father. It was heartbreaking.
Yes, I had a daughter. I gave birth to a female. A supposed member of the bloodline who only had males for hundreds of years.
After countless pestering and complaining to my husband who is a piece of crap, he told me the truth and why he did that. Though after getting a slap, he told me as he thought I was annoying and such.
In order to maintain their image with all the members of their bloodline, they wouldn't allow any female in it except for the ones that they marry, if their wife gave birth to a female, they would immediately kill it and would disguise it as an accident or it didn't survive. Sometimes, the reason would be a miscarriage and would confuse the citizens about it as they would tell how long their wife has been pregnant. They just announce it and bam!
Sometimes, they wouldn't even tell them that their wife is pregnant and would tell them once it gave birth (to a boy, obviously.)
Only the members knew about it and if anyone tried to tell it or reveal it to somebody who isn't from their bloodline, they would kill them both just to keep it a secret. To think that the bloodline that rules over us has been lying to us for hundreds of years just to maintain their image.
3rd day of September, 26th Year of the 7th Emperor.'
That was the beginning, right after she read it, almost everything was revealed about their bloodline. Alexandra closed her eyes as she leaned back against the couch, imagining what the babies must have gone through. The innocent ones that were killed, to think that they would do that just for their image. Not even a single memory would be burned in their head.
Don't the fathers have any mercy at all? What do they feel when they kill that child who bore their blood? This is way too much for me, she thought to herself as she recalled that time when she was also almost killed by her father. The reason probably was because she was a female, she doesn't know. That was what they tell her. Her father probably has another reason and Alexandra was somehow afraid to hear it.
She was afraid to ask him about it but it is fine now, he has become the father that she had wanted to be. Though he doesn't show his feelings and appreciation towards his children, he does his best to let them know that he loves them and Alexandra knows that.
"This is unbelievable," Klaus said as he placed down the book that he was holding. Alexander, her father, has already finished reading it since and was just waiting for him to finish while leaning against his chair with his eyes closed. He looked stressed, incredulous about what he just read.
He has yearned to learn and know about why their bloodline only has males, this wasn't some sort of miracle, magic, or God's work. It was weird and unusual why there is nothing written on the history books about why there was none but it turns out that the reason was this. The truth was too much.
"This has been going on for hundreds of years?" He finally spoke after almost an hour of being silent.
"Yes. This was almost 400 years ago and I believe that the killings have stopped for a few hundreds of years ago that's why nobody except for the members of the bloodline who are now in the grave knows it. If your grandfather or father knows about this, he could have told you," Klaus responded.
It looked like all of them were trying to keep their composure and not break down or something about what they learned.
This was the truth that they have been looking for and it was too much for them to handle. Aside from that, they also learned about what the 7th Empress, Katelyn, has gone through with his husband.
'I am writing this three months after my previous entry.
I have gone through so much and I just couldn't bring myself to write because if I did, I would just break down and my husband would sometimes enter my chambers without knocking and even if I locked it, he would use a key then would so some things. He would go on a rampage and would harass me afterward.
I don't want to call him husband. I should call him a piece of crap, instead.
He violated me and forced me.
I feel so dirty. I am reeking of his smell and I hated it. I have been stained by his hands that have roamed my body that even if I take a bath many times and it would last for hours, I still feel so dirty. Even if I bathed and poured myself gallons of perfume, I could still smell his scent. I hated it.
Yes, he is my husband.
But that doesn't change the fact that he forced me. He did it without even me wanting it, he just did it. I don't even love him and this marriage was just arranged by our parents. I don't even want to get married to him.
You shouldn't believe everything you see. Just because we're sweet in public and would act lovey-dovey and all sorts, that doesn't mean that we're like that when alone. He did so many things and he would treat me like a tool and toy. It was like I was his puppet.
Either in bed or war.
The worst is that I can't even report or tell this to anyone because he is the emperor. I have no power against him, everyone is on his side and I knew that if I fought back, I would be killed.
I am tired.
14th day of February, 27th Year of the 7th Emperor.'
Alexandra let out a sigh as she pinched the bridge of her nose, recalling the contents of that book and imagining what the empress has gone through during that time. What was written on the textbooks and history books was that the 7th Emperor, Alistair Alcott Frank Everly, was a sweet man who loves his wife and children. He treats them like they were more important than his life. He and his wife would fight side by side during the battles against other empires and such.
Aside from that, despite their marriage being arranged, the empress looked happy with him as he gave her everything that she has wanted. From gardens to mansions, to dresses and jewelry. Everything that every girl would have wanted was being given to her and she looked like she was satisfied with it but she's not. All of those were just for show and such.
She remembered Harrison, during that time that he was reading a history book while he was on the couch and eating cookies. He suddenly tossed the book away from his hands and Alexandra scold him about it as that was an old book and she would take care of it. She remembered him saying:
"Don't believe everything that is written in some books, especially history books. Just because some sort of professional or something wrote it, doesn't mean that it's true. There is probably much more than that which they kept hidden in the dark."
Indeed.
Not everything wrote was true.
"Klaus, bring that to Sir Friyedor, ask him and let him investigate about that," She heard her father spoke which made her flutter her eyes open. There was Carlos sitting on the couch near her instead of standing beside her. She saw her father leaning forward on his table with his fingers intertwined and her elbow being propped up the surface of the desk. Friyedor was sitting on the chair in front of him which he just found randomly and dragged.
He was holding the book in his hand.
"But, this was clearly written by the 7th Empress. There was even a sign with her name along with her fingerprint in it."
"Yes, I know but I just want to hear about his thoughts on that. And after that, we'll decide on what we should do. Only a few people know about this, only the people inside this room knows about it. My daughter already knows about it and I don't know if I should tell my sons about it," Her father responded and a weary sigh slipped past his lips as his shoulders slumped.
His assistant stared at him for a few seconds before he let out a sigh, closing his eyes in the process, and stood up.
"I understand," He said and before he left, he placed the chair back where he found it.
"I need time to be alone, can you leave the room for the moment? Along with you Lysander," He also said as his assistant was heading towards the door. Carlos stood up and before he could call out to Alexandra to tell her that they should leave now, she interrupted him.
"No, I'll stay here," Her voice sounded stern and serious that even if you forced and begged her to leave the room with him, she wouldn't budge and just stay in her seat. Carlos just sighed, "I'll wait for you outside then," Was what he could only say before he left the room along with Lysander and Klaus.
The sound of the door closing was heard and Alexandra just remained in her seat. Looking at the state that her father was in.
"Dad?"
"Yes, dear?"
"Are you okay?"
Her father whose eyes were on the table, looking down, lifted his head to look at her. There was this blank look on his face, if you don't completely know him and doesn't spend that much time with him, you could say that his expression was cold and was just his usual one. But, he was her father. She knows him more than anyone.
A trace of sadness. A hint of pain. A look of grief. A tinge of anger.
She could recognize all those emotions that were whirling inside him, like a storm destroying everything.
Her father just motioned her to come at him and so she did. She stood up from her seat and walked towards his direction, she stopped in front of him and her father got up from his seat. Despite Alexandra's height, her father towered over her yet he bent down and what he did shook her.
He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a tight hug.
"Dad?"
"I'm sorry."
He said in a low voice as he hugged her. He buried his face on her shoulder. Alexandra was confused but she just let him be and reached out to wrap her small arms around him, patting his back.
And she could feel something damp on the part of her shoulder where he has buried his face.
Alexandra knew why and she just sadly smiled while trying to comfort her father who rarely sheds his tears as he apologized, his voice low like a whisper.
