Chapter 2: Because You Don’t Deserve Me (1)

In the dimmed private room, Han Chuan lowered his eyes. He looked at the phone in his palm from time to time.

Ye Yuqing’s routine was very regular, going to bed at 10:30 every night. She would send a WeChat message before sleeping. Regardless of wind or rain, she never missed.

A strange picture of a tree on the road or a lovely new cup …  It didn’t have to be a personal chat … She could also share a cute thing she encountered.

Han Chuan hadn’t cared about it at first, but it had actually turned into a habit after a year. He would open WeChat at nine-thirty every day to see what the other party had sent and reply “good night” casually.

It was eleven o’clock already, but he hadn’t received any message.

Han Chuan was a little anxious. Could it be that she was angry because he had missed today’s appointment?

That could be it. Ye Yuqing had a good temper, but today was Valentine’s Day. It was inevitable that she felt unhappy.

Noticing Han Chuan’s absent-mindedness, Lin Lanyue turned her face sideways and asked, “What are you thinking?”

“Nothing.” Han Chuan’s voice was a bit low.

Lin Lanyue leaned forward. She stuck her chest to his arm and asked in an affectedly sweet voice, “Wanna have a drink?”

Han Chuan looked down, and when he saw the snow-white skin, his eyes dimmed. “No, I have to drive later.”

Lin Lanyue leaned into Han Chuan’s arms and fiddled with the button of the man’s shirt with her fingers.

“I know that you did this for me, but I really can’t stand you being intimate with another woman, not even a fake one. A’chuan, can you break up with her tomorrow?”

Han Chuan opened his mouth. The word “okay” rolled around his throat, but in the end, he swallowed it back.

Back then, his parents had firmly opposed his marriage with Lin Lanyue. They argued that the girl was two years older than him. Even more, while abroad, she was also divorced. Thus, she wasn’t suitable to be in their family.

Lin Lanyue didn’t want to drive a wedge between him and his parents, so she had gone back to England alone. With this, Han Chuan, who stayed behind in China, quarreled with his parents and couldn’t stand it anymore.

At that time, he complained to his friends that he needed to get divorced. He would then also have a second marriage, and there wouldn’t be any more excuses.

So a month later, seeing Ye Yuqing by Han Chuan’s side, his friend group all had meaningful expressions. Those close to him ridiculed him for his strong action of taking such a road for Lin Lanyue and making himself a divorcee.

Han Chuan had been furious with his parents and thought of finding a random girl to marry and divorce. At worst, he could just compensate her with a good sum of money.

Ye Yuqing was beautiful and comfortable to get along with. Han Chuan realized that she had a favorable impression of him, so he put forward the request to date each other.

At that time, Ye Yuqing asked for one day to consider his proposal. The next day when he went to meet her, she nodded with a blushing face.

Han Chuan knew that they both would break up eventually, but when it came to it, his heart was a little empty.

Noticing that the person beside her was distracted, Lin Lanyue gently pulled his arm.

“A’chuan, don’t go back for today, okay?”

Han Chuan slowly pulled back. “Be good. I still have work tomorrow. I’ll accompany you next time.”

Lin Lanyue was stunned for a second before she kissed the corner of the man’s lips. She obediently said, “Okay, don’t work too hard.”

Seeing them get affectionate, the people in the private room started booing.

“Why hasn’t the kiss been aligned yet?”

“No, you have to give us a proper kiss.”

Lin Lanyue blushed and did not speak. Her eyes were full of coyness. After several years of acquaintance, she had a good relationship with these people and knew that they would not stand on Ye Yuqing’s side.

Han Chuan stood up. “I’ll go first. Don’t play till too late.”

“Brother Chuan, you won’t accompany Sister-in-law?”

“I have something to do.” Han Chuan lowered his head, spoke a few words to Lin Lanyue, and walked out.

No one was surprised by his actions. Not talking about the others, Han Chuan was the most ambitious of their circle. He did not rely on his family and still got along well.

Lin Lanyue looked at the back of the departing man, feeling a little uneasy.

When she learned that Han Chuan had gotten a new girlfriend, she hadn’t care much. After all, that man’s heart was with her. Although she complained about the other side’s mischief on the surface, she also tacitly consented to this method.

Han Chuan’s parents were stubborn, so this might be an opportunity.

Since when did she start to feel nervous?

Han Chuan’s phone calls every morning and evening became once a day, and then once every three days. Perceiving a sense of crisis, Lin Lanyue returned to China earlier.

When Lin Lanyue just got back, she hinted to Ye Yuqing that she and Han Chuan had a close relationship. But the other party didn’t react at all.

At first, she suspected Ye Yuqing was acting like a fool and that she had met a master. However, after several times, Lin Lanyue found out that Ye Yuqing really thought they were just good friends …

Recently, Han Chuan mentioned Ye Yuqing less and less in front of her. Lin Lanyue was getting increasingly anxious. She couldn’t let the relationship between the two of them develop.

If feelings got involved, it wouldn’t end well …

——

When Ye Yuqing came home, she lay down on the sofa. After a while, she brought out the medicine kit.

The sting of alcohol on her broken skin made her gasp.

In the paper bag on the coffee table, there was her Valentine’s Day gift for Han Chuan, a scarf from Burberry.

Now, naturally, there was no need to send it anymore. But it was unisex. She could use it herself, so it wasn’t going to waste.

Ye Yuqing didn’t like to buy famous brands. But she still chose this one according to Han Chuan’s dressing habits.

The other party’s background was good, evident from his usual food and clothing. When Han Chuan brought her to meet his friends, they teased her, saying that she could enjoy happiness after marrying a wealthy second generation … being a full-time housewife and no need to work at a job that paid RMB 3,000 a month.

Ye Yuqing didn’t take these words to heart. During the relationship, her boyfriend gave her some gifts, and she also chose a similar price to return the favor.

Han Chuan had been surprised. He had said that no matter what kind of gift she gave, he would like them, and there was no need to spend too much money.

Ye Yuqing had smiled and said it was all right. She had her own savings.

She didn’t feel that she was not worthy of the other party. Even if Han Chuan was from a superior family, she also could buy a house and a car on her own without spending his money.

But Han Chuan only concluded that she had strong self-esteem. Besides, he did not know Ye Yuqing’s exact income.

Lying on the bed, Ye Yuqing tossed around with a lot of thoughts on her mind. She took out her phone, clicked on Han Chuan’s WeChat portrait, typed a few words, and then deleted them, repeating the cycle.

She sighed and decided to wait until she got the notebook tomorrow.

——

In order to hide the injury on her wrist, Ye Yuqing wore long sleeves when she went out the next day. Internet companies usually had a relaxed atmosphere, and they could work while chatting.

“Someone was hit and killed at the front intersection yesterday.”

“Seriously?”

“When the police came, the dead person suddenly stood up and ran off.”

“Zombie? A special horror movie for Valentine’s Day?”

“—”

The MC of the news lay her head on the table, listening to the gossip in silence.

Ye Yuqing hadn’t slept well last night. Now, she was a bit listless.

“The product modification opinions submitted the day before yesterday have come out and have been sent to you. Please have a look.” Lu Jie walked to Ye Yuqing’s rear and put her hands on her shoulders. When she noticed her pale side face, she asked, “What’s wrong? Are you in a bad mood because your boyfriend missed yesterday’s appointment?”

“No, I’m just feeling under the weather.” Ye Yuqing raised her head and forced a smile.

She didn’t want to make her personal feelings public.

“Oh, if you’re not feeling good, you should take a rest. Just submit the documents before going home. Don’t get exhausted.” Lu Jie’s voice was concerned.
