Chapter 2: Because You Don’t Deserve Me (2)
This media company was mainly engaged in graphic design. Relying on their boss’s network, they had received design work of some goods on a shopping website.
The company wasn’t big, with only two departments and a total of more than twenty individuals doing copywriting and page design. Party A would submit product pictures, then the copywriters would sort out the product’s efficacy and selling points. Next, according to these frameworks, the designers would design the display page.
As Party A’s shopping website was difficult to serve, it would repeatedly put forward suggestions for copywriters and designers to modify. When the two departments coordinated, there would often be contradictions.
When that happened, as the head of the design department, Lu Jie would be in a state of anxiety. She had her own work and wasn’t able to manage it. As time passed, the staff of the two departments grew dissatisfied, and she was aggrieved as well.
When the boss talked about this for the third time, she suggested that the company should recruit another auditor. After the recruitment notice was sent out, some people came to take the test but none succeeded.
Lu Jie was going crazy. With a 3000 yuan salary, where could she find a person who could not only do copywriting but also some designing? At this time, Ye Yuqing appeared, just like a timely rain.
Ye Yuqing came for the interview that day wearing jeans, canvas shoes, and a casual top. She had a small and round chin, very bright eyes, and she occasionally showed a natural blank expression. She looked like a college student, but according to her resume, it had been two years since her graduation.
Lu Jie casually asked a few questions before hiring her. She also asked her to come to work the next day.
In her perception, this kind of beautiful girl could be understanding, even if she was a little coquettish. However, Ye Yuqing was very easy to get along with. She never talked about right and wrong and had a good temper. She always had a small smile on her face when she spoke, just simple and pure that made people feel like a spring breeze.
Her temper was excellent, and her skills were in line with the requirements.
Ye Yuqing graduated from the Chinese Department of Z University, a university of science and engineering. The Chinese Department was isolated, but at least, it was a first-class university.
She had good writing skills and patience. She could pick out copywriting errors to the delight of the copywriting team.
No matter the design submitted by the company, Party A would always symbolically pick a few mistakes. The product page’s font size should be one size larger, the logo needed to be moved a few centimeters, or the background color must be changed to a lighter shade.
These details were not very technical but tedious. The designers were making new plans, so they would inevitably be impatient to go back and change the previous drawings.
After Ye Yuqing joined, if there were only minor changes, she would directly fix them. The designers liked this girl who did practical work.
Thus, after an audit post was added, the work of copywriting and design was effectively reduced, and the office was much more harmonious.
Lu Jie naturally knew that the audit work was boring. There was no room for improvement, and the salary was not high. When she had recruited her, she was prepared for Ye Yuqing to leave after getting her first salary. Unexpectedly, this girl had already worked in this position for a year.
Lu Jie also guessed that Ye Yuqing had a good family background and didn’t care about her salary. Later, after getting along, she discovered that it was not the case. However, in any case, she personally did not want the girl to leave.
For Ye Yuqing, this job was quite good. It was related to design, and because she often needed to collect materials to find inspiration, she could also visit website forums at work.
Her desk was in the corner, the audit could be finished in the afternoons. In the mornings, she had a lot of free time to slack off and draw by herself. No one would reprimand her.
Ye Yuqing had studied Chinese in university and drew at home for two years after graduation. A friend had said that her personality was too gentle and she needed to get into a workplace to know that society could be vicious.
It was also just right. At that time, she was a little tired. Her biological clock was disordered, and her day and night were reversed. Thinking that she could work and rest normally, Ye Yuqing interviewed for several jobs and chose her present company.
An auditor of the main business company and a sideline illustrator. The sideline income was ten times that of the main business, so she didn’t care about the salary.
——
Lunch break.
Ye Yuqing had no appetite and lay on the table to make up for lack of sleep.
At this moment, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and instantly became sober.
It was Han Chuan.
“Yuqing, I’m downstairs at your company. I brought the notebook for you.”
Ye Yuqing stepped out of the elevator and saw Han Chuan standing in the lobby at a glance.
He was wearing a white shirt with blue stripes and black trousers underneath. He had a good physique. He was tall and straight, and the girls passing by glanced at him often.
The hall was full of people, not a suitable place for talking. Ye Yuqing took him to the staircase.
“This is your notebook. And this is my present for you, a Mac. Happy Valentine’s Day,” Han Chuan said with a smile.
Ye Yuqing picked up the notebook on the top. “I only want mine.”
Han Chuan smiled and coaxed her: “You’re still angry? You also didn’t reply to my WeChat message this morning. Haven’t I come back the very next day?”
“Are you coming from the hotel?” Ye Yuqing asked.
“What?!”
Ye Yuqing took a deep breath. “I used your tablet yesterday and happened to see your hotel check-in mail. It was at 8:40 last night.”
Han Chuan was stunned for a couple of seconds. He reflexively justified himself. “You don’t believe me because of an email?”
“I wanted to believe you, so I went to the hotel.”
She was not good at arguing with people, so a whole night of mental building was working its charm. No matter how rough the waves were, she could restrain herself from crying.
Han Chuan’s heart missed half a beat.
“You knew yesterday. Why are you asking me now?”
“I’ll ask you a question. I hope you will answer me honestly.” Ye Yuqing’s grip around her notebook tightened and her voice trembled a little. “So, you liked her before you and I got together?”
Yesterday’s scene had been quite vivid. There was no room for maneuver, but there were some things that she needed to clear.
Han Chuan’s voice was strained and incoherent. “Yuqing, give me some time. I’m so sorry, my mind is a little messy. I don’t know how to choose.”
He had been struggling for months to no end now.
Ye Yuqing’s heart seemed to be pulled tightly by an invisible hand, and she felt dizzy. She knew the answer now.
So, she was the third wheel here?
“Being a mistress” was more embarrassing than being cheated on by her boyfriend. Not that he was not faithful, but rather, he never liked her since the beginning. The past sweetness, companionship, and happiness all turned into bubbles rising in the air. And the next moment, they exploded into nothingness.
Ye Yuqing took a deep breath. Anger and disgust surging in her heart, suppressing the pain.
She must not cry. It was not worth it; it would only make herself more embarrassed.
She walked over and stood on the steps, looking down at the man from up there. She had always felt that swearing was not good and was unnecessary. Usually, when she encountered bad people, she would try to avoid them.
But Ye Yuqing had never been as angry as she was now. Her brain was going to explode and her body was shaking with anger.
The next second, Han Chuan saw his gentle girlfriend turn red as she said, “No need to choose, no need to waver because you don’t deserve to choose me.”
Han Chuan raised his eyes and looked at the girl’s pale eyes in shock.
“You … You fucking bad person!”
“—”
