368 King’s Arrival

The next morning, Caspian arrived at the castle way before Zenon and the others who went together with him. He was so eager to catch Anastasia in her bed that he flew from the border at the highest speed possible, and reached the castle when the natural light was still scarce.

However, unlike what he had expected, he was welcomed with a piece of bad news.

“Your Majesty, I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news.” Percy met the King at the main gate of the castle and lowered his head in front of the King.

Caspian instantly frowned when Percy came in between him and his beloved. He looked at the window of the Queen’s bedchamber and asked with haste, “Tell me what it is in one sentence. I don’t wish to spend much time listening to some bad news this early in the morning, especially when I haven’t slept for the whole night.”

Percy heaved a deep sigh and held his arms behind his back. He was ready to get beaten to a pulp by the King in a fit of his rage.

“Your Majesty, one of our maids had some dispute with the Queen and her handmaid. Long story short, the maid was decapitated by Lord Vincent and–”

“What?” Caspian widened his eyes and growled. “Is Anastasia okay?” he asked as a cloud of worry hovered over his face.

Percy gulped and subconsciously took a step back from the King. And he answered while hanging his head low, “Her Majesty is in her bedchamber. She is–”

Before Percy could inform Caspian that the Queen was unconscious, Caspian disappeared from there in the blink of an eye.

.....

He reached in front of Anastasia’s chambers in no time and flung the door open. “Anna? Are you okay?” he shouted as he walked towards the bedchamber.

Martha was sitting on the floor with her head resting on the Queen’s bed. She had fallen asleep while waiting for the Queen to regain consciousness. And when she heard the loud banging of the door and the even louder voice of the King, she got startled to her core.

“Martha? How’s the Queen? What happened to her?” Caspian asked in a much softer voice when he saw Anastasia sleeping.

Martha blinked several times while staring directly at Caspian as though she didn’t recognize the man who was standing by the door. It took quite some time for her to properly regain her senses and be aware of her surroundings.

And as soon as she did, she got up on her feet and greeted the King. Then she finally replied, “The Queen lost her consciousness yesterday night, probably because she witnessed a maid’s… severed body. The doctor said not to be worried though. He said she will regain her consciousness on her own.”

Caspian didn’t dare to take a step closer to his wife’s bed because he assumed that she was hurt badly. He kept on standing at the door and watched her from there. And after contemplating for a while, and calming his overwhelming rage to some degree, he ordered Martha, “Keep on staying by her side. I will go and meet Vincent first.”

After that, he went outside in search of Vincent. He needed to know what had happened in his absence.

Caspian went to the main gate again with the intention of going to Vincent’s mansion.

Percy was still lingering around when he saw the King rushing towards the gate. He guessed where the King was heading and hastily shouted, “Your Majesty, if you are looking for Lord Vincent then he is staying at the guest quarter.”

Caspian immediately turned on his heels and headed for the guest quarter.

Before Caspian knocked on the room where Vincent was currently staying, Vincent opened the door and greeted the King.

Vincent was unable to catch a wink of sleep because he was too worried about Tilla as well as the Queen. After welcoming the King inside the room, he also took a seat in front of the King and waited for him to break the silence.

“What happened?” Caspian asked in a cold and somewhat terrifying tone.

Vincent knew that he would have to be the one to explain everything to Caspian. He was already prepared to do so. Thus, he calmly explained everything that he saw and everything that he did.

Caspian was dumbfounded when he heard that a lowly maid had dared to touch his wife.

Vincent, on the other hand, was aware that he had taken the law in his hand in the fit of his rage. So, he calmly said, “I know I should have taken that maid into custody. But she was going to sink her fangs into the Queen. And… I couldn’t control myself.”

“You did the right thing,” Caspian replied while clenching his teeth and flaring his nose. “If you hadn’t killed her already, then I would have definitely done so by now.”

Vincent had already guessed that Caspian would say something along the line. That’s why he was so calm even after killing someone inside the castle itself.

He further notified the King, “Her corpse is still in the punishment room if you want to investigate or something. And Tilla witnessed the whole thing. You can question her in a while regarding what really happened between the three of them. I haven’t gotten the chance to do so myself.”

Caspian gave a nod and finally thanked Vincent, “Vince, I owe you a lot for saving my wife’s life. I don’t know what would have happened if you didn’t arrive there in time.” He lowered his head a little to hide his damp eyes and murmured, “I don’t know what I would have done if anything had happened to her.”

Vincent got up from his seat and stood next to his friend. He patted Caspian on the shoulder and consolingly said, “Hey, you don’t owe me anything for performing my duty. And the thing that matters the most is that Her Majesty is safe and sound. She didn’t sustain a single injury so, don’t think too much and put yourself through unnecessary pain.”

“She isn’t injured?” Caspian asked rather skeptically.

“No.” Vincent patted Caspian’s back and suggested, “Why don’t you go and stay by the Queen’s side for a while? She might wake up soon. Don’t you want to be there when she opens her eyes?”
