"Chen Yue, don't get angry. Let's talk slowly and solve this matter," Jiang Xin said calmly.
"What calmly? This girl is hell-bent on ruining my family! I don't know what benefits she is giving my husband, but he is ensnared by her!" she accused, throwing her hands towards Qian Meng.
Mo Qingchen stiffened. "Watch your words," he warned grimly.
Qian Meng chewed on the mochi ball for a few moments before speaking. "Chen Yue, don't you understand? Your good friend is using you to make trouble for me. She speaks sweetly and instigates you. At the end of the day, you are the shrew who screamed and stormed someone's house and she is the one who wants to resolve the issue calmly." Qian Meng shook her head.
So stupid.
"Are you done talking?" Yun Sui Bo roared. Qing Yuan gripped tighter onto her arm.
"What do you think?" she challenged.
There was silence. Yun Qing Yuan was the one who made it mildly better. "Sis, you made coffee for… that guy. Now that the real deal is here, shouldn't you make him something?" he whispered.
Qian Meng looked at him curiously. "What are you playing at?" she whispered.
"Your hubby looks like he is going to pull out a weapon. But you are here, so he can't do it," he told her. Mo Qingchen listened with his ears perked up. The kid might just be on Qian Meng's side.
"I want to watch the show," Qian Meng said lightly.
"But… you gave that dude coffee. It's unfair!" he whisper-yelled.
"Whose side are you on?" Qian Meng asked. She batted his hand away and stood up. "I'll make something for Qingchen," she announced before walking to the kitchen.
Jiang Xin was about to get up but Mo Qingchen cleared his throat.
"The wedding date has been set. None of you are invited. I will warn you against putting barriers in front of her. It won't end well for you," he said in a low voice so that Qian Meng couldn't hear.
"Are you threatening me?" Yun Sui Bo asked.
"It's not a threat if I intend on coming through," he replied.
"I won't give her the family registry, what will you do then? Get married without it?" Yun Sui Bo asked, a challenge clear in his voice.
Mo Qingchen scoffed. "Do you know how easy it is to get a duplicate booklet?" he asked. "Aren't you looking for some sort of benefit from marrying your daughter away?" He tilted his head.
"I don't know what you are talking about," Yun Sui Bo said in a low, panicked voice.
"Don't pretend. Qian Meng is not here and I won't tell her. I know your plan. Marry her off to a smaller house, contain her power. The Bai family had a son who was willing to do dirty business to help your business out. Moreover, he even said he would let you have Venus once she gave birth to a baby." He smiled. This was the smile of a man who would go on a murder spree.
There was silence. Mo Qingchen looked at the people in the room. Yun Qing Yuan looked so shocked that he was about to cry. His eyes reddened.
"Father… is… this true?" he whispered. He got no answer.
Mo Qingchen looked at Chen Yue. And he knew instantly that this filthy woman had known.
"Is this true?" Qing Yuan asked again.
"Nonsense," Yun Sui Bo responded, but anybody with half a brain cell could tell that he was lying.
"Can't pretend any longer?" Mo Qingchen taunted. His eyes flickered to the kitchen. She was still inside. "Forget about whatever benefits you want. You will get none even if you kneel down in front of me and beg," he hissed.
Mo Qingchen read it in his eyes. This man would ask for help from Mo Qingchen if he needed it. Even if he was the enemy's son.
"I'll let Yun Qian Meng find everything out on her own. I won't hinder her path. But if you so much as threaten her, I'll make this house go up in flames."
Jiang Xin gasped. "You're threatening our life?" she asked. "We can call the police on you!"
"Sit down!" Yun Sui Bo hurried to say.
"See how your husband is cowering? It's because he knows what I can do." If only Qian Meng had seen this side of Mo Qingchen, she might have hugged him tightly and never let go.
"Why are you doing this?" she asked.
Mo Qingchen straightened up, his expression changing into a calm façade. Qian Meng slowly walked towards them, her eyes fixed on the mug in her hand. She was trying her best not to let even a drop spill.
She slowly walked up to him and handed the mug over to him with a smile. "Here," she said.
He took it and patted his hand on the sofa beside him. She plopped down and pushed Qing Yuan a little to move over. She looked at him and suddenly she was stunned. Despite the smile on his face, his eyes were red. He looked like he was on the verge of crying.
She turned to Mo Qingchen and saw nothing out of place. She could read the room though. There seemed to be… fear.
"What is this?" Mo Qingchen asked, scrunching his brow after taking a sip. She didn't get a chance to ask him the real question.
"Coffee," she told him.
"I know that but what the hell is this taste?" he asked.
Seeing his grimace, she chuckled. "It's instant coffee," she admitted. He looked at her like she had committed a crime.
Qing Yuan gave out a genuine chuckle. "Sis, I understand the poop coffee, but why instant coffee this time?" he asked.
Qian Meng didn't know how to answer.
"Poop coffee?" Mo Qingchen asked. "God, that tastes awful. I bought a small packet years ago. I think it is still rotting in the pantry." He shuddered. "But really… is this symbolic?" He was curious.
