"What?"
"Mrs. Chen Yue and Bai Ye Qing demand a personal attorney. Your attorney," he informed.
Bai Yu stared. "There must be a conflict of interest in this matter. I'll let Qian Meng and my lawyer sort this out on my behalf." Bai Yu leaned back into his bed. "I just want to rest now. This chapter of my life is over," he said with finality.
The officer remained silent for a moment before nodding. "Understood. Thank you for your cooperation. If we need a statement, we will reach out to you," he said at last.
He turned to Qian Meng. "Miss Yun, please come to the police station once you have wrapped up in the hospital," he said.
He scratched his head before leaving the room.
Qian Meng looked at Bai Yu. "Are you sure you want me to handle this? I will follow what you want," she said.
Bai Yu shook his head. "I'm not the one who abandoned them. They did that to me. If they still want to use my lawyer after I am in the hospital because of them… I can't help them anymore. The state will provide them with legal representation, I am sure."
Qian Meng nodded. She glanced at Mo Qingchen. "I will relay the message on your behalf. If you want to know anything else, please just call me." She bowed.
"Oh! One more thing," Bai Yu called her back. Qian Meng looked back. "I prepared a wedding gift for you. It should arrive in time for your wedding. But because I am bound to the hospital, I will have to ask my lawyer to bring it to me. Then we can have you sign the papers."
"Papers?" she asked.
Bai Yu just nodded. "You get something, too," Mr. Bai said, looking at Mo Qingchen. He put his glasses on and looked at his phone. "Go, now. You have lots of extra work because of me," he said with a sad smile.
Qian Meng didn't know how to respond to that. There was no use for words. With no idea what to do, she could only leave the room and call the lawyer and her own.
"Li Jun, police station again. Sorry for this matter," she apologized.
"No need. This tip got me a lot of brownie points from the prosecutor's office and the attorney general. I don't mind this at all," he responded. "Do you wish to speak with any of the detained people in the case? You are allowed to as Mr. Bai's legal guardian. I can help you set it up," he offered.
"I'll think about it," she told him. She hung up and was making her way to the car. "You're coming along?" she said when she noticed Mo Qingchen trailing behind her.
He shrugged. "I won't allow you to go inside the police station alone."
"I'll have two lawyers with me," she joked.
"Never trust lawyers, either. They do what you pay them to. If someone pays more, they will turn their loyalty. I, on the other hand, won't do that." He gave her a small smile. "I also have some words to say to Bai Ye Qing." He gave her a look.
"What words do you have for him?" she asked curiously. "Are you going to rub his nose in? Say that he couldn't get me but you did?" she nudged him with her elbow.
He scoffed. "Not everything in the world is about you, Qian Meng," he retorted. "He needs to understand some things. It's better if I tell them to him than someone else."
Qian Meng's brow furrowed in confusion. "What inside information are you feeding him?" she asked.
"Nothing you need to know. These things are not meant for your delicate ears," he said. Qian Meng rolled her eyes. "I am giving you the opportunity to be the pampered young miss and you will pass up on it? I didn't think you would do that!"
Qian Meng shrugged. "Isn't it supposed to be a fatal flaw of mine? I am too independent for my own good. That's why we are getting married," she almost stuck her tongue out.
"Well, I am letting you pretend. Taste the bitter-sweet deliciousness of being a weak and pathetic woman." He eyed her. "I can't say I will find you attractive like that, though," he added.
"Oh, we wouldn't want you to not find me attractive." They chuckled lightly.

They reached the police station in record time.
Actually, the officer had a lot more to discuss than just the matter of attorneys.
The officer produced a few forms. "We just received word from the prosecutor after listening to the wire recording," the officer spoke up. Li Jun took the form and read it over before passing it to Mr. Bai's lawyer. The older gentleman too read through it and frowned.
"Okay. Can you tell us a little more about this matter?" Qian Meng prompted. She could see the officer was nervously eyeing the two lawyers. Usually, they would get one lawyer or one appointed by the state, but seeing someone rich and powerful with a team of lawyers was not something they saw on a daily basis.
"The prosecutor in charge wants to exhume Mr. Bai Wenxi's body for an autopsy. Mr. Bai Ye Qing admitted to using a lethal dose of medicine to murder his older brother. In such a case, the prosecutor will want the coroner and medical specialists, including anesthesiologists and the like to testify in court to show how heinous the murder is," he said.
Qian Meng gulped. "It should be a really slow process, right?" she asked. Another snippet from that dream of her came back.
The officer didn't know how much to reveal. "It can take from four to eight hours for the medicine to kill. Despite the dosage," he said after a moment.
Qian Meng sucked in a breath. "And you need to autopsy Bai Wenxi's body to get incriminating evidence." She finished.
