Chapter 2109 Defend 2

Magus Tobin's painful scream echoed across the battlefield, accompanied by the crumbling sound of three defensive stone pillar formations. The turtle magus was hurled back inside the formation, blood spurting from his mouth, while the King Rhino rampaged in anger, thwarted from entering by the formation barrier.

"Senior, are you alright?" Emery called out, his voice tinged with concern.

Magus Tobin, though battered, stood tall once again. "I was careless," he admitted, wiping the blood from his lips. Without hesitation, he leaped out of the formation to intercept the colossal rhino, determined to prevent further destruction.

As soon as Tobin reengaged the beast, two desolate yellow tigers, with their lightning-fast reflexes, flanked him from the sides. VIA, detecting the threat, sprang into action, firing plasma shots at the incoming beasts. However, the tigers' heightened battle instincts and lightning speed allowed them to dodge the shots at the last second, their sleek bodies weaving through the plasma beams effortlessly.

After ensuring that the Turtle Magus could hold his ground against the massive rhino, Emery shifted his focus to the broken stone formations. The shattered pillars were a critical weakness in their defense. Sensing Emery's concern, the old formation magus speaks.

"I can fix this!! Just make sure no more stones break!"

Magus Yord poured his energy into reinforcing the remaining pillars, his hands glowing as he chanted an incantation to strengthen the structure. The air around him cracked with energy, and the glowing runes on the pillars intensified, providing a temporary boost to their durability.

The stone formation made by Magus Yord originally had 36 stone pillars, creating three defensive layers. The first layer had already been shattered by the previous lizard beast tide. Now, three of the 12 second-layer stones were broken, creating a crack in the barrier. Knowing that these pillars could withstand tier 6 spells, Emery frowned, realizing the sheer power of the King Rhino's charge. It was clear that without Magus Tobin's defense, more stone pillars would have broken simultaneously; without the barrier, Magus Tobin would have been heavily wounded.

He soon encountered a frustrating reality: these desolate creatures were far more resilient than he had anticipated. Not only were they able to coordinate their movements with alarming precision, effectively shielding each other from critical harm, but their thick, armored hides proved to be a formidable barrier. The beasts also displayed their high regenerative abilities, which made them even harder to kill. This combination of strategy and resilience created a daunting challenge for Emery and his companions.

The two beast groups worked in unison: the tigers moved swiftly around the formation, striking at weak points and harming the stone pillars, while the rhinos stampeded in groups, continuously returning with powerful charges. Emery was forced to divide his attention between the two threats. The rhinos' relentless charges threatened to break through their defenses, while the tigers' agility and cunning attacks targeted the formation's structural integrity.

Emery could clearly see the terrifying strength of an organized and more intelligent, desolate beast. Despite the difficulties, after almost an hour of fighting, Emery and his companions had managed to vanquish four rhinos and seven tigers— half of the beast groups. They also manage to heavily wound the gigantic white tiger. Unfortunately, at the same time, their second-layer barrier succumbed to the ceaseless barrage and crumbled apart.

Amidst the chaos, Emery's keen senses detected a disturbance in the sky above.

His gaze shot upwards to behold a small capsule-shaped construct, a ship hurtling toward them, its damaged hull trailing plumes of smoke as it descended perilously toward the battlefield.

VIA, swiftly proposed a course of action, suggesting the use of the plasma turrets to bombard the ship and neutralize the potential threat. However, Emery, relying on his intuition, reached out with his spirit reading, intercepting the ship mid-flight and guiding it safely into the heart of their formation.

As the dust settled and the ship's hatch opened, a figure emerged, his presence eliciting a mixture of surprise and apprehension from the group. It was Edgar, the Kux faction noble. His expression twisted in hysterical anguish as he stumbled out of the damaged vessel.

"They're dead! They're all dead!" Edgar's voice resounded with despair.
