Xiong Jingfei pressed on her Bluetooth earbuds. "Jeez, Yuan. Do you need to keep calling me? Are you that worried that I wouldn't get the job done?"
The other side of the phone line was quiet, and no one replied to her.
"Yuan?" Xiong Jingfei repeated Yin Yuan's name. "Are you there?"
"Yuan?"
Xiong Jingfei almost slammed on her breaks. That voice didn't belong to Yin Yuan… She mentally cleared her throat and, in a cheerful tone, "Darling~!"
"Did you mistake me for Wu Yuan? I'm hurt, darling."
"Ahaa… You know you're the only one for me, Zheyan." Xiong Jingfei replied, pulling her car into a parking lot. She thought it was Yin Yuan since Yang Zheyan's phone calls came in less frequently.
There was soft muffled laughter on the other line. Yang Zheyan replied, "Am I really the only one?"
Xiong Jingfei didn't reply. She parked her car outside a tall white building with many windows.
"What mischief are you up to this time?" Yang Zheyan asked, hearing her car come to a stop. "Want me to play along with you again?"
"Are you curious?" Xiong Jingfei grinned, resting her arms on top of the steering wheel. "Darling~, you don't sound good."
"Are you worried about me?"
There wasn't much difference in Yang Zheyan's voice, but Xiong Jingfei can hear it was lower than usual. She wasn't sure if it was a blessing in disguise that in the past, she used to pay attention to every little detail about Yang Zheyan. Yet, she still missed his biggest betrayal.
"I want to see you tonight at Guiying Hui Museum." Xiong Jingfei pulled four zip locks bags out of her purse, each one labeled. "I have to go now. I'll text you the time later."
"Okay. See you later."
****
Yang Zheyan dropped the hand holding onto his phone to his side. He was in his bedroom but was sitting on the floor. The only source of light coming into his room was the evening rays peeking through the thick curtains crack.
While sitting on the floor, he wondered why he never saw it? His eyes were staring intently at his canvas while in his other hand, was a paintbrush. How and why did he miss it? When she was in front of him the whole time?
Yang Zheyan probably would have never seen it for himself if not for Lu Weisheng's older brother, Lu Xuefeng. Maybe, later on, he will see it for himself, but because of Lu Xuefeng's comment. His struggle to finish his uncompleted canvas became complete.
Everything matched.
A day later, after Wen Yingyue's party, Lu Xuefeng dropped by to visit without prior notice. They are family in name, but Yang Zheyan and Lu Xuefeng weren't close to each other like how he was to Lu Weisheng. Therefore, Lu Xuefeng's visit is extremely rare and odd.
Lu Xuefeng wasn't a person who likes to meet up with others when business isn't involved. That part of him made him and Yang Zheyan somewhat similar to each other.
"Your house is always so quiet." Lu Xuefeng took a look around Yang Zheyan's quiet house. It was like he was looking for someone, but that person wasn't there. An unexpected chuckle came from Lu Xuefeng as he shook his head. "Where is your fiancee? I heard that both of you are living together."
"She's not here, but she will be back." Yang Zheyan didn't allow his face to show that Lu Xuefeng managed to hit a sore spot. "Why are you here? I thought you were a busy person."
"Have you seen the troublemaker in the family?" Lu Xuefeng asked. "I apologize for the trouble Weisheng had caused you. I'm here to drag him back."
That's it? Yang Zheyan wasn't convinced that is the real reason why Lu Xuefeng dropped by. Lu Weisheng is the well known carefree young master of the Lu family. It was normal that he was always roaming and doing whatever he wanted.
After all, there wasn't much for him to do with Lu Xuefeng around, but to have the busy Lu Xuefeng come pick up Lu Weisheng personally, that is new.
"Xuefeng, since when were you a person who likes to beat around the bush?" Yang Zheyan flashed his gentleman smile. "Just tell me why you're here."
Lu Xuefeng is a straightforward person. There are times he's too honest that he says things that offend others. Still, why is asking about Lu Weisheng, when both of them know that wasn't the truth.
"I am looking for your fiancee, Xiong Jingfei." Lu Xuefeng straightforwardly answered. He had to confirm something, and seeing her was the only way.
"What is this?" Yang Zheyan's friendly smile instantly dropped. "Xuefeng is showing interest in someone, and it's a woman too?"
"Aren't you the same too?" Lu Xuefeng put his hands into his pocket.
"Are you forgetting that she's my fiancee?" Yang Zheyan wasn't too worried about Lu Xuefeng having those "thoughts" about Xiong Jingfei. Lu Weisheng did mention Lu Xuefeng was infatuated with someone else, but it's always good to be on guard.
"Heh. That's an interesting expression you have on." Lu Xuefeng commented. There are only two types of expressions Yang Zheyan has shown to him, his gentlemanly side and his annoyed expression at Lu Weisheng.
Yang Zheyan instantly changed his expression back to his usual one.
"Since she is not here, why don't you show me what you're working on?" Lu Xuefeng eyed the paint marks on Yang Zheyan's sleeves. It hasn't been that long since he last saw Yang Zheyan, what happened to his cleanliness?
Yang Zheyan showed Lu Xuefeng to his bedroom. He didn't want to show an unfinished piece, but Lu Xuefeng did have an eye for art, so he might be able to help, unlike Lu Weisheng.
Lu Xuefeng's eyes hung on the canvas of the dancing woman for a long time without saying anything. He traced his fingers against the dry paint on the canvas. He muttered in a low voice, "Xiong Jingfei."
"What?" Yang Zheyan thought he heard Lu Xuefeng wrong.
"Aren't you just drawing your fiancee, Xiong Jingfei?"
Yang Zheyan stared at the painting of the faceless dancing woman. All along, it turns out the face he has been struggling to draw was Xiong Jingfei. Does that mean the woman in his dream was Xiong Jingfei too?
