Lu Qingjiu's mother was also born in March.
It was the height of spring, when everything was reviving and the air was full of life. The first thing that came out of the old house was the moaning of a woman in pain, followed by the bawling of a child.
Bai Yuehu stood outside the door waiting quietly. The midwife who came to deliver the baby, thinking he was the husband, came out of the door with joy, waved at Bai Yuehu and said, "Good luck, sir! It's a beautiful girl! Come and have a look!"
Bai Yuehu hesitated for a moment, but went in and saw the little baby in the mother's arms. Bai Yuehu frowned and stretched out a finger to gently poke the baby's cheek, then pulled it back as if it had been burned.
"Do you want to hold it?" Bai Yuehu was about to refuse, but she heard the matron urging Bai Yuehu to hold the baby first, saying that the baby's mother had not yet finished with it.
At Bai Yuehu's words, he could only pick it up helplessly. He had never imagined that a human cub could be so soft, like a puddle of water that could melt away at any moment, and he didn't dare to push at all, even afraid that if he moved, he would hurt the little thing.
Bai Yuehu's eyes widened slightly as he looked at the doughnut that had gradually calmed down and thought, "Is this a human cub, this is the first time he has seen one ......
Only after the matron had finished with Fang Ruhui, made up her bed and covered her with a quilt, did Bai Yuehu carry the little ball to Fang Ruhui's side, noticing the longing in her eyes.
"This ...... is your child." Bai Yuehu handed the little doll to Fang Ruhui who took it, her eyes full of love as she said. "Thank you."
"No need." Bai Yuehu took a step back.
Fang Ruhui said, "Her father ......", and halfway through her sentence, she swallowed the rest of her sentence without mentioning it again.
Bai Yuehu knew what Fang Ruhui had in mind, but in fact he understood that it was better not to let Ao Run know about it.
It was difficult for the dragon and human bloodlines to connect, especially if the human was female, because the dragon bloodline was so dominant that it was not easy for a human to conceive a dragon child. This is a heavy burden on their bodies. Luckily, Fang Ruhui is a descendant of Nv Wa, so although she is a little weaker, nothing too unexpected happens after all.
And it's a good thing that the baby was born at this time.
Bai Yuehu stood far away and did not dare to get too close. He had only been in Shuifu Village for a short time and his relationship with Fang Ruhui was not too close. He also knew what had happened before, so when he saw this little group of people, his heart was complicated.
Fang Ruhui, as a mother, had accepted the child's existence, and her eyes were gentle and strong in a way Bai Yuehu had never seen before, as if she had already made a decision. Bai Yuehu turned around and left the door, standing in the doorway looking at the trees in the courtyard, thinking that human beings are really amazing creatures, so weak and weak in body, yet tougher in spirit than many non-humans.
For some time afterwards, Bai Yuehu did not fit in too well with the family.
It is because of the Ao Run incident that Fang Ruhui has a gap in her treatment of the Dragons. She didn't treat the dragons as well as she did before, and she was extraordinarily polite with Bai Yuehu. Bai Yuehu was quite unconcerned, as he had never been around humans before, so he had no idea what a normal relationship was like. Other times, he would rarely get involved in Fang Ruhui and her daughter's interactions.
The little dumpling grew up a little and became a pavilion girl, almost at the time when she started to understand things.
The gist of the conversation was that he wanted Bai Yuehu to stay out of the presence of Fang Ruhui's daughter, who was already planning to be sent away from Shuifu Village when she was older, so that she could live with relatives and leave the village for good.
Normally, guardians are not allowed to leave Shuifu Village, but when faced with such a determined expression from Fang Ruhui, Bai Yuehu did not speak out against it, but nodded his head in agreement, and has not been seen in front of the children since.
In the face of Bai Yuehu's understanding and tolerance, Fang Ruhui seems to feel a bit guilty. She knows that she has passed on her anger towards Ao Run to Bai Yuehu, but when she thinks of the disappearance of Ao Run just after she became pregnant, and the sudden attack by Ao Run on the day she gave birth, she cannot contain her grief and anger. Of course, Fang Ruhui at that time did not fully understand the meaning of contamination, nor did she understand how much self-control it took for Ao Run to stay out of her sight.
In fact, when Bai Yuehu first met Ao Run on the day of the baby's birth, Ao Run was still normal. Ao Run had been deliberately hiding himself at first, but for some reason, as if he had been stimulated by something, he suddenly burst out and started attacking the old house.
And Bai Yuehu kept watch over Fang Ruhui, silent, and looking at Fang Ruhui's appearance ...... seemed very sad.
Apart from not being able to be in the presence of Fang Ruhui's children, Bai Yuehu found Shuifu Village to be a good place to stay, sleeping on the mountain during the day and having Fang Ruhui bring him food around evening.
The meals were sometimes rich, sometimes simple, it all depended on what they had eaten during the day.
"When the children are sent out, you can come back and live here." Fang Ruhui said to Bai Yuehu one day, "All these years have been hard on you."
Bai Yuehu shakes his head to indicate that it is not relevant.
Fang Ruhui, however, sighed and apologised, saying that she should not have blamed Bai Yuehu for what happened to Ao Run, who was, after all, just an innocent new tenant. Bai Yuehu didn't quite understand Fang Ruhui's guilt, he didn't feel that he had been treated badly, after all Fang Ruhui was the first human he had come into contact with. Later, Fang Ruhui sent her daughter away from Shuifu Village, as she had said she would, and warned her not to return. Bai Yuehu was finally able to come down from the mountain and live in the house.
Fang Ruhui seldom interacts with Bai Yuehu, and she falls into a slightly self-absorbed state. She cultivates the fields, raises chickens, but doesn't talk much.
Bai Yuehu, who knew little about humans, did not know what was wrong with his relationship with Fang Ruhui, he just felt that Fang Ruhui did not have a lot of life in him and did not seem to want to live.
"Aren't you happy?" Bai Yuehu asked her.
"Happy?" Fang Ruhui said, "Why should I be happy."
Bai Yuehu said, "Doesn't the food make you happy?"
Fang Ruhui laughed, "It's okay, I guess, just ...... not that happy." She actually wanted to treat Bai Yuehu the same way she treated Ao Run, but once she was bitten by a snake, she was afraid of the well rope for ten years. No matter how hard she tries, she is unable to do so. She feels so helpless that she feels guilty towards Bai Yuehu. Bai Yuehu and Ao Run are almost completely different in nature. He knows nothing about the human world, he does not do anything and does not like to talk, and spends most of his time sitting in the courtyard with his eyes closed, looking very lazy.
Ao Run, on the other hand, is a great lover of life and even a better cook than himself.
Fang Ruhui does not understand why they are both dragons, yet they are so different.
Bai Yuehu and Fang Ruhui have lived a long, dead-end life, with no intention of ever getting closer to each other. Bai Yuehu didn't feel so bad about this, after all he had never seen the so-called good. Without the comparison, he didn't feel sad.
This situation continued until the birth of Lu Qingjiu.
Lu Qingjiu was born outside Shuifu Village and Fang Ruhui had no intention of bringing him back to Shuifu Village to raise him, but perhaps because of his Guardian bloodline, Lu Qingjiu was in very poor health for a long time after he was born, easily falling ill and having a very weak constitution. Fang Ruhui and her daughter were so disturbed by this that Bai Yuehu thought about it but said to Fang Ruhui, "I think you'd better bring him back to raise him."
"Why?" Fang Ruhui wondered.
"Because it's his duty, maybe Shuifu Village is calling him." Bai Yuehu said, "Of course, when he is old enough, he can also be re-sent out ......"
Fang Ruhui thought about it but was reluctant, but Lu Qingjiu's health was deteriorating and she had no choice but to try Bai Yuehu's idea and bring him back to Shuifu Village. She had no choice but to try Bai Yuehu's words and bring Lu Qingjiu back to Shuifu Village, but to her surprise Bai Yuehu's words were true and Lu Qingjiu's health began to improve and he became full of life after returning to Shuifu Village.
Fang Ruhui could only think of keeping Lu Qingjiu for a while before sending him out.
Unlike her quiet mother, Lu Qingjiu was very lively and curious about everything as a child.
When Fang Ruhui prepared a table for Lu Qingjiu, Bai Yuehu became interested and transformed himself into his original form, lying beside Lu Qingjiu and looking at the little doll with bated breath. Yesterday, Fang Ruhui explained to him the meaning of catching the week, so although he was joking, deep down Bai Yuehu wanted Lu Qingjiu to hold out his hand to him ......
Lu Qingjiu was raised by Fang Ruhui, his face was like a freshly steamed white bun, he stared at the table with eyes darker than purple grapes and swept around blankly, but he was a little confused about what he was going to do.
"Wine, go and get what you like." Lu Qingjiu's eyes flicked around the table and finally landed on Bai Yuehu's body as her grandmother urged gently from the side.
Bai Yuehu was a little excited but played it cool, he had transformed back into a smaller version of his dragon form and must have looked majestic and handsome, Lu Qingjiu would have loved it.
Lu Qingjiu gazed at Bai Yuehu for a moment, then his eyes widened slightly and his mouth opened - letting out a shrill cry, "Wow ......姥... ...scared ......"
Bai Yuehu: "......"
Fang Ruhui: "......"
Both of them froze for a moment, then Fang Ruhui understood what was going on and couldn't help but laugh, while Bai Yuehu immediately left the table and flew to the roof beam, staring at the white dumpling below in exasperation, how did this start crying, this dumpling was too much!
Fang Ruhui quickly picked Lu Qingjiu up and comforted him, but Lu Qingjiu was not a fussy doll and soon calmed down and drifted off to sleep with his favourite fox toy that Fang Ruhui had stuffed in his arms.
"It's alright, the child is too young." Fang Ruhui was afraid that Bai Yuehu would be sad, and after comforting her grandson, she began to comfort her lovely tenant, "He will like you when he is older."
Bai Yuehu didn't say anything, he looked at the fox toy in Lu Qingjiu's arms and sulked a little, the only thing on his body that had fur on it was a pair of ears on the top of his head, and he couldn't help but shake the tips of his ears at the thought.
Bai Yuehu didn't let Lu Qingjiu see his prototype again for some time, and he realised that Lu Qingjiu didn't seem to like him much as a bare, slippery creature, preferring the furry fox spirit.
Fang Ruhui's reassurance was a drop in the bucket and had no effect at all.
As Lu Qingjiu grew bigger and bigger, Bai Yuehu remembered something and offered to return to the hills and not have any further contact with Lu Qingjiu.
When Fang Ruhui heard Bai Yuehu's request, she froze for a moment and tried to say something, but she heard Bai Yuehu say, "Since he is leaving Shuifu Village, let him not be exposed to the other world."
Fang Ruhui sighs, and only after a long time does he spit out, "Also."
Bai Yuehu then left and never saw Lu Qingjiu again, only occasionally late at night he would come back to check on the growing little white dumpling, and after seeing the fox doll in his arms, he became a little indignant, so one day he quietly stole Lu Qingjiu's fox doll.
Lu Qingjiu cries the next day after losing his favourite fox doll. Bai Yuehu is a bit vain, but when he looks at the fluffy white fox doll in his hand, he is angry again and grunts, not willing to give it back to Lu Qingjiu.
That night, when Fang Ruhui came to bring Bai Yuehu some food, she said with a smile on her face that Lu Qingjiu was too young, and that when he was a little older, he would not sleep with the doll, and that Bai Yuehu's prototype was actually very beautiful, but that children might not like it very much, and that Bai Yuehu should not take it to heart.
Bai Yuehu completely dismisses Fang Ruhui's words as perfunctory and comforting, feeling that he has seen through Lu Qingjiu's soul, this childish child who is an abominable fluff controller.
After all these years, and with the return of Lu Qingjiu, Fang Ruhui has become more and more kind to Bai Yuehu, and even tends to treat him like family. Although Bai Yuehu vaguely sensed the change, he did not realise what it meant.
Lu Qingjiu stayed at Shuifu Village for several years before being picked up again by his parents when he was in primary school. At this point he has no recollection of his early childhood experiences or of having been made to cry by a little black dragon, except that he vaguely remembers losing a favourite fox rag doll.
After Lu Qingjiu's departure, the whole house fell silent again, and although Bai Yuehu could go back to live there, there was an inexplicable feeling of emptiness. It was a funny feeling, because for thousands of years he had been alone, but he had never felt lonely.
Humans are truly infectious creatures, and their happiness and sorrow are easily transmitted to the creatures around them.
Bai Yuehu could only suppress this strange feeling.
After Lu Qingjiu's departure, Fang Ruhui began to show her age. Bai Yuehu watched Fang Ruhui grow old, from a girl with dark hair to a woman with white temples, in just a few decades. Fang Ruhui is getting old, and old age means illness and death.
Bai Yuehu thought everything was going to turn out just as he thought it would, but a sudden accident shatters the peace completely.
On a normal summer day, the Ao Run suddenly appears and swallows Fang Ruhui's daughter and son-in-law, Lu Qingjiu's father and mother, all in one gulp.
Bai Yuehu did not understand why Ao Run would do such a thing. The tainted dragons would have eaten their own beloved creatures, Fang Ruhui first, but why would they eat their daughter? The fact is that dragons are so insensitive to their offspring that they are capable of being born and not raised, and their bloodline is strong enough that few other creatures can bully them even without adult dragons to look after them.
Bai Yuehu suspects a misunderstanding, but Fang Ruhui has come to terms with the harsh truth.
She hid her grief and acted calmly in front of Lu Qingjiu, but only Bai Yuehu knew that she might not last much longer.
Lu Qingjiu has grown from a tiny white ball to an adult, but Bai Yuehu is a stranger to him because he comes back once or twice a year at most and leaves after a short stay. He seemed to have no connection with Shuifu Village, even when Fang Ruhui died, he didn't have time to return.
Bai Yuehu watched Lu Qingjiu take care of Fang Ruhui's funeral and leave the place in disarray, standing by the roadside and staring at Lu Qingjiu's back.
Bai Yuehu thought that this was the last time he would see Lu Qingjiu. After all, without Fang Ruhui in Shuifu Village, there was no longer a last thought for Lu Qingjiu, so he could leave and never return.
Bai Yuehu spent the next few years on his own, living most of the time in the mountains and occasionally returning to the town in search of food.
Such a life might be bad for a human being, after all, to live without food and clothing, but for Bai Yuehu, it was actually quite bearable. The only thing that bothered him was the pervasive hunger, and he longed for a hot, full meal, but Fang Ruhui was gone, the old house had fallen into disrepair, and he was just a tenant without a guardian.
A few years later, as Bai Yuehu was leaving Shuifu Village one day in the night, as he always did, with the intention of going to the town, he caught a familiar scent halfway up the mountain and, flying through the air, suddenly stopped in the middle of the path leading from Shuifu Village to the town.
A taxi drove by but stopped abruptly as it illuminated him. Bai Yuehu walked slowly to the car and saw the person sitting in it. It was a familiar face, with some bewilderment, and he asked him, "Sir, this place is so remote at this late hour, what do you want?"
When Bai Yuehu heard this question, he suddenly smiled and said with a smile, "Nothing, I couldn't sleep at night, so I came out to find something to eat."
Lu Qingjiu seemed to find the man in front of him a bit strange, but he could not say anything more than a casual admonition to be safe. Bai Yuehu didn't say anything, but reached out and gave the taxi a tap on the door, then left.
He left and returned to Shuifu Village instead of foraging for food in the town as he had planned.
Lu Qingjiu is back. Why did he come back? Didn't Fang Ruhui already die? Did he come back to visit his grave? But it's not the anniversary of Fang Ruhui's death, let alone any special day ......
Bai Yuehu sat on the roof and thought, "Maybe Lu Qingjiu wants to go back to live here, but why? Wouldn't the outside world be more interesting? Was Lu Qingjiu suddenly back here for something? After all, if Lu Qingjiu came back, there would be a guardian here again and he wouldn't have to forage for his own food. But Lu Qingjiu didn't seem to know anything about that, and hated his prototype of the dragon body ......
Bai Yuehu frowned, slightly distressed, but he soon came up with a perfect solution - inspired by the Liaozhai magazines he had lying around the house.
If he was a fox spirit, Lu Qingjiu would be quick to accept him, wouldn't he? The more Bai Yuehu thought about it, the more it made sense, so he happily decided to become ...... a poor, helpless and weak fox spirit, and gave himself a different name to fit his identity - Bai Yuehu.
If you're going to be a vixen, you have to be obvious, and it's best to reveal it in your name, Bai Yuehu thought, so with the fox tail you won from Su Yan, Lu Qingjiu would have no reason to suspect himself!
Bai Yuehu, however, gave a satisfied smile at the thought. Just then, a strange scent suddenly came out of the wind, and Bai Yuehu caught the scent and knew that it was his food that had taken the bait.
Lu Qingjiu, who was sleeping in the house, was unaware of what was on the roof of his house. He was lying in the old room when, in a daze, he heard the sound of tiles vibrating above his head. He opened his eyes in some confusion and then saw something lift the tiles and a pair of blood-red eyes, which were clearly not human, even had the transient membrane of a reptile inside them, peeked out from the end.
Lu Qingjiu looks horrified, but he doesn't know that this is the beginning of his story with Bai Yuehu.
Bai Yuehu, sitting at the other end, licked his lips and waited for the delicacy that was about to enter his mouth, only he didn't know whether the delicacy referred to the gecko spirit that had been tricked into coming or Lu Qingjiu who was lying in bed and knew nothing ......
