Chapter 463: Taking pleasure in other’s misfortune

Luo Haofeng gave a humble smile and said, “Xiaoxiao and I are friends, and I should take care of these matters. We are not in a business setting, so Uncle Bai, you can just call me Ah Feng.”

“Alright, then I will call you Ah Feng from now on.” Mr. Bai, being a straightforward person, immediately changed his way of addressing him after hearing Luo Haofeng say this.

In the hospital room, Mother Bai and Xiaoxiao talked for a while before the housemaid from Wen Jin’s house, Auntie Li, brought in breakfast.

After Mother Bai had a bit of breakfast with Xiaoxiao, she encouraged her to get a good sleep. Xiaoxiao agreed since she hadn’t slept the previous night. She had been too frightened and scared to feel sleepy, but now, being allowed to relax, she instantly felt sleepy.

“Mom, you didn’t sleep well last night either, go home and get some sleep. Visit me again in the afternoon.”

“Alright, I’ll be back with some food I made for you by noon. You get a good rest.”

Smiling, Xiaoxiao nodded her head, “Go home without worry, Mom. You’ll see me fall asleep as soon as you leave the room.”

When Mother Bai left the hospital room and saw Luo Haofeng enjoying his chat with her husband, her eyes twinkled strangely.

“Auntie!” Luo Haofeng greeted Mother Bai with a polite smile, to which she responded with the same, “Ah Feng, thank you for saving Xiaoxiao.”

“It’s only right for me to do so.”

“Xiaoxiao didn’t sleep all night, and she received a great shock. I’ve put her to bed. You can go back to your work now.”

Mother Bai’s seemingly polite words carried an underlying meaning.

Being the sharp man that Luo Haofeng is, he instantly understood what she meant. He glanced at the hospital room, and without pretending, nodded his head, “It’s about time for me to go back to work. The company has a lot to deal with in Xiuchen’s absence. Uncle Bai, Aunt Bai, I’ll be leaving first!”

“Alright!” replied Mother Bai, smiling as she watched Luo Haofeng stride away. It wasn’t until he entered the elevator that Mr. Bai turned to his wife, puzzled, “You don’t seem to like Luo Haofeng very much, do you?”

“Really? Maybe I’ve been influenced by Xiao Yuting. I don’t trust men like them now.”

Mr. Bai frowned slightly and disagreed, “Luo Haofeng is nothing like Xiao Yuting. I think his character is good. Even if nothing else, his circle of friends speaks highly of him.”

Having spent decades in the business field, Mr. Bai was discerning of people.

Mother Bai’s gaze flickered, and she laughed it off, “Never mind that, you go back to your work and I’ll make something for Xiaoxiao. When she wakes up from her nap, she’ll have something to eat.”

Luo Haofeng didn’t immediately leave the hospital but went to Gu Kai’s office.

In his office, Qin Mu, Wen Jin, and Gu Kai were having a conversation. They had sent Zhang Ergou for a medical check-up. As Luo Haofeng entered the room, Gu Kai squinted his eyes and jokingly asked, “Didn’t get to see Xiaoxiao?”

“It’s not that easy to see Xiaoxiao. Mother Bai probably hasn’t finished talking to Xiaoxiao. But Ah Feng, you’re running out of patience.”

Qin Mu made a seemingly careless comment.

“I believe, Mother Qiao kicked him out.” Wen Jin observed Luo Haofeng’s bitter expression. In front of them, he did not deliberately hide his emotions.

“Is it fun for you guys to gloat?!” Luo Haofeng frowned as his eyes swept over the three on the couch before going to sit on the vacant spot next to Qin Mu.

Gu Kai burst into laughter, “Your face says it all, ‘I’ve been dumped, come laugh at me’.”

“Ah Feng, it seems you only have one option left if you can’t even manage your mother-in-law.” Wen Jin frowned, speaking in the tone of a love expert.

And then, Qin Mu continued the conversation, “What other options does Ah Feng have?”

“He must win Xiaoxiao over. As long as she is entirely devoted to him, nothing else will be a problem. Just like Ranran and Mo Xiuchen, I dare say that no one could make Ranran leave Mo Xiuchen right now.”

“You’re such a failure as a brother,” Luo Haofeng said, unwilling to be made fun of by them, glaring at Wen Jin before loosening up and replying lazily.

Wen Jin raised an eyebrow, undeterred, “I won’t stand in the way of Ranran’s happiness, regardless of who she ends up with. Right, Ah Kai?”

As Wenran’s sister and Gu Kai’s sister, their alliance certainly shared the same belief: “Mm, I agree. As long as Ranran is happy, anything goes.”

Qin Mu’s eyes twinkled as he calmly said, “The result of Zhang Ergou’s inspection won’t be out in a while. As for Bai Xiaoxiao, just have someone watch over her. Let’s get back to work. We will figure out the rest when Xiuchen returns.”

“Alright, I also need to get back to work. We’ll leave the rest for Mo Xiuchen to deal with when he returns.”

Wen Jin got up as he said these words. With Xiaoxiao safe and sound, the heavy burden on their hearts had been lifted. They decided to leave the remaining matters for Mo Xiuchen’s return.

“Ah Feng, are you going back to work or staying here?” Qin Mu also rose, turning to Luo Haofeng.

“If you are all leaving, there is no need for me to stay. Xiaoxiao didn’t sleep all night; she needs to get some good rest now. Even if I were to see her, it wouldn’t be too late to wait for Xiuchen and Wenran’s return.”

“So it is. You being alone, and Mother Qiao not allowing you to see Xiaoxiao, you might as well follow Mo Xiuchen and Ranran, that should work.” Wen Jin teased, as Gu Kai got up to see them out of his office. After they left, Gu Kai personally visited Xiaoxiao’s hospital room.

Seeing that Xiaoxiao was already asleep, he made a few reminders to the nurse watching over her before leaving.

4:20 PM

G City, International Airport

As soon as Mo Xiuchen and Wenran passed through security, they saw their welcoming committee – Gu Kai, Qin Mu, Wen Jin, and Luo Haofeng.

“Ranran, Xiaoxiao is safe.”

Seeing Wenran’s dark circles and her tired face, Wen Jin felt a slight pang in his heart. The first thing he said was to reassure her that Xiaoxiao was safe so she wouldn’t worry.

“Really?”

Wenran stared blankly for a second before breaking into a relieved smile.

Gu Kai nodded with a smile, “Yes, it’s true. Xiaoxiao was a little frightened but is resting at the hospital. In a bit, you will be able to see her.”

Having heard Gu Kai’s words, Wenran was finally assured of Xiaoxiao’s safety. Her worry throughout the journey finally came to an end. She felt as if a string inside her had snapped, turning into a wave of warmth that seemed to moisten her eyes. “Then let’s go to the hospital now,” she said.

“Ranran, Xiaoxiao is fine now, you can’t cry.” Seeing the emotions in Wenran’s eyes, Mo Xiuchen felt a pang of compassion. He tightened his grip on her hand and said reassuringly.

“I’m not crying. You guys quickly tell me, how was Xiaoxiao rescued? What about Xiao Wenqing? Has he been caught?”
