Chapter 464: 463 Deep Sisterly Love
“Ranran, don’t be anxious. Let’s first get in the car. We’ll tell you what happened gradually.”
Gu Kai, seeing Wen Ran’s eyes shimmering with tears, felt some heartache.
“Indeed, Xiaoxiao is safe and sound. Even if we don’t tell you, you’ll be able to ask her yourself when we get to the hospital.” Luo Haofeng laughed, attempting to lighten the mood.
“Okay.”
Wen Ran smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. She then looked towards Qin Mu, who had been silently standing by. Meeting his gaze, she started, “Qin Mu, I heard that after Mo Xiuchen and I left G City, you were fetched back by Luo Haofeng. You’re not planning to leave again, are you?”
Qin Mu looked at Mo Xiuchen, standing beside Wen Ran, before responding with a warm smile, “I’m not planning to, for now.”
When several people exited the airport and got into the car, Gu Kai recounted last night’s incidents to Wen Ran, “… That’s how things unfolded, it’s considered a stroke of luck that we managed to rescue Xiaoxiao so quickly.”
“What about Xiao Wenqing? Has he been caught?”
Wen Ran, listening to Gu Kai’s words, struggled to calm her emotions.
“He was caught. But he was alone, Wu Tianyi was not with him,” Wen Jin calmly replied.
There was some regret that they weren’t able to find Wu Tianyi. However, because only Xiao Wenqing was present, they were able to rescue Xiaoxiao smoothly, a fact influenced by recent coverage of events.
“Where is she now?”
Wen Ran’s gaze flickered, looking towards Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Xiuchen offered a subtle smile, as he held onto Wen Ran’s hand a bit tighter, his striking facial features revealing minimal changes in expression.
“She’s being held captive. We’ve sorted our lawyer, the evidence is largely in place. If you and Xiuchen wish to meet her, you can visit the police station afterward,” Luo Haofeng explained disinterestedly, before adding, “Xiao Wenqing can’t escape anymore. Whether we see her sooner or later doesn’t matter. For now, let’s head to the hospital.”
“Ranran, Ah Feng has been waiting for you to come back to take him to see Xiaoxiao,” Wen Jin glanced at Luo Haofeng and teased.
The original heavy atmosphere changed abruptly after his words, Wen Ran blinked in surprise before looking towards Luo Haofeng in the front seat, “Luo Haofeng, does Xiaoxiao not wish to see you?”
“How could that be possible?” Luo Haofeng lifted an eyebrow, displaying a confidence that suggested Xiaoxiao was thinking of him all the time.
Mo Xiuchen, who had been quietly listening to the conversation, smiled, “It’s not that Xiaoxiao doesn’t wish to see him, but Xiaoxiao’s mom doesn’t like him being too close to Xiaoxiao. However, Ah Feng did save Xiaoxiao’s life last night, so even if Xiaoxiao’s mom is upset with you, she should have let it go.”
“You guys, stop making things up. Xiaoxiao’s mom didn’t say anything about me not seeing Xiaoxiao. This morning, she even personally thanked me,” Luo Haofeng retorted, albeit slightly flustered, after being teased by everyone in the car.
The half-hour journey from the airport to the hospital was unhindered by traffic, and they arrived at the hospital without it being too late.
Everyone entered the hospital together, took the elevator up. Wen Ran was visibly excited, an emotion that was imperceptible to others but perceived by Mo Xiuchen, who held her hand the entire time.
Exiting the elevator, Luo Haofeng led the way.
Mo Xiuchen held Wen Ran’s hand and walked behind him, while Gu Kai, Wen Jin, and Qin Mu strolled casually in the rear.
Arriving at Bai Xiaoxiao’s room, Luo Haofeng paused and turned to look at Wen Ran.
Wen Ran stepped forward, pushing open the door. Immediately, a fragrant smell filled the room. Inside, apart from Bai Xiaoxiao, there was also Mother Bai, who was serving soup into a bowl.
At the sound of the door opening, Bai Xiaoxiao raised her eyes to look.
When her gaze fell upon Wen Ran, she paused.
Their gazes met in mid-air across several meters. Bai Xiaoxiao clearly saw the complexity in Wen Ran’s eyes, noticing the mistiness of impending tears, her own eyes welled up rapidly.
Wen Ran, standing slenderly at the entrance, was fixated on Bai Xiaoxiao, who was lying in the hospital bed. Bai Xiaoxiao’s hospital gown hid her usual personality and added a frail and ill look. Although the swelling on her forehead had gone down, there was still a purplish bruise.
Recalling Gu Kai’s recount of the events, images of Xiaoxiao being kidnapped, escaping in the middle of the night… the fears and terror that she had to endure for more than ten hours haunted Wen Ran. Feelings of guilt and self-reproach overwhelmed her.
Everything Xiaoxiao had gone through was due to her.
Whether it was this kidnapping incident or the previous car accident, it was all because of her.
“Ranran!”
Mother Bai’s voice interrupted the staring contest between Wen Ran and Bai Xiaoxiao. Releasing her grip on the door handle, she swiftly walked to the bedside, bent over, and fiercely hugged Bai Xiaoxiao without uttering a word.
Time seemed to halt in that instant!
Whether it was Mother Bai inside the ward or Mo Xiuchen standing outside, no one uttered a word.
All eyes were silently watching the two people – one standing before the hospital bed and one lying on it – hugging each other tightly, deeply moved by the sister-like bond between them.
“Ranran, you’re going to suffocate me,” Bai Xiaoxiao’s voice, filled with discontent and sobbing, was heard. Her face was stained with tears, yet her eyes were filled with laughter.
“I’m sorry!”
Wen Ran, while hugging her, managed to utter words filled with guilt and remorse.
“Wen Ran, what are you babbling about?”
Bai Xiaoxiao abruptly became annoyed, shoved Wen Ran away, and stared at her tear-stricken eyes angrily. Seeing the tears sliding down Wen Ran’s face, her own irritation fizzled, and she only managed to state matter-of-factly, “We’re good friends. You’re not allowed to say you’re sorry to me.”
Whether it was the car accident last time or the kidnapping incident yesterday, she never once blamed Wen Ran, much less thought Wen Ran was not a good friend because of these incidents.
However, her lack of blame, resentment or fear, doesn’t mean Wen Ran didn’t feel guilty, remorseful or upset.
Looking at Bai Xiaoxiao’s purple bruise, she clenched her lips, then slowly reached out a hand.
Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t move, just watched her and gently explained, “Ranran, I’m really not injured. It was just a little scare. You don’t need to blame yourself, and certainly don’t need to be upset.”
The more she spoke like this, the more upset Wen Ran felt. Wen Ran touched the bruise on her forehead, choking on her words, “I heard from Older Brother Gu, that when you were rescued last night, you had a bump on your forehead. Is this… did you hit it yourself?”
The single word ‘hit’ contrasted sharply with Bai Xiaoxiao’s own explanation.
Mother Bai’s gaze hardened, focusing on Bai Xiaoxiao, as she blurted out, “Xiaoxiao, didn’t you say you bumped into something accidentally?”
Accidentally?
Wen Ran raised her other hand, wiping away the tears to help her see more clearly. She intuitively determined that it was no accident. Bai Xiaoxiao might be able to deceive Aunt Qiao, but she couldn’t deceive her.
It definitely wasn’t accidental; she must have hit it deliberately.
Didn’t she say that she was uninjured? This wasn’t an injury, then what was it?
