Chapter 465: The person she hates is me.
“Just a careless bump,” Bai Xiaoxiao said flippantly. Wen Ran withdrew her hand and didn’t press further. Instead, she turned to Mother Bai and said softly, “Auntie, please give me the bowl, I will feed Xiaoxiao.”
“Okay!”
Mother Bai knew that the sisters were deeply bonded and that Wen Ran probably had a lot to discuss with Xiaoxiao. She smiled slightly and handed over the bowl filled with soup, “I’ll give a call to Uncle Bai, so he won’t have to worry and can come over after he’s dealt with his business at the company.”
Mother Bai took off after saying this, leaving the hospital room.
Mo Xiuchen and the others didn’t come in.
Inside the room, only Wen Ran and Bai Xiaoxiao were left. Holding the bowl in her hand, Wen Ran didn’t intend to feed Xiaoxiao. Instead, she asked softly, “Xiaoxiao, how did you bump your forehead?”
“Why are you asking again?”
Bai Xiaoxiao frowned. She had just mentioned that it was a careless bump. Her mother believed her, but this girl, Wen Ran didn’t.
Wen Ran looked at her seriously, “You can fool Aunt Qiao with that, but not me. You didn’t bump into something accidentally. You did it to yourself, didn’t you? What did Xiao Wenqing do to make you want to kill yourself by hitting your head?”
While speaking, Wen Ran fluctuated between sadness and anger.
“Ranran, don’t be angry. It was just a rash decision, and besides, I’m fine now, aren’t I?”
Bai Xiaoxiao let out a soft sigh. She knew that if she didn’t confess, Wen Ran would keep probing or might even question Xiao Wenqing. Rather than Xiao Wenqing spilling the beans, she decided to tell Wen Ran herself.
“Did Xiao Wenqing force you?”
Wen Ran’s grip on the bowl tightened.
“Xiao Wenqing wanted to use me to reach you, to threaten you with my life, to make you surrender willingly. Ranran, Xiao Wenqing wants nothing more than to devour your flesh and drink your blood. She said that if she got her hands on you, she would torture you endlessly, making you wish for death but unable to die. She also wants to use you to crush Mo Xiuchen…”
“So, you foolishly tried to kill yourself to stop her from getting what she wanted? Bai Xiaoxiao, how could you be so naïve? Xiao Wenqing despises me, she is after me. Even if she used you to lure me into her trap, you shouldn’t have contemplated suicide.”
Wen Ran was agitated. She stared at the bruise on Bai Xiaoxiao’s forehead, trying to hold back the tears that were welling up in her eyes, and said with a heavy heart, “You haven’t fully recovered from your previous injury, and now you’re foolishly hurting yourself again.”
“Ranran, I’m fine, really.”
Seeing Wen Ran’s eyes brimming with tears, Bai Xiaoxiao’s nose wrinkled, stinging with sadness.
“No matter what happens in the future, you are forbidden from doing anything foolish ever again,” Wen Ran sniffed hard and warned, her tone stern.
“Okay, I promise. Stop shedding tears, or else Mo Xiuchen is going to worry about you,” Bai Xiaoxiao joked, looking towards the door and smiling.
“I’ll feed you first.”
Wen Ran turned her sorrow into laughter. She wiped away her tears, picked up the spoon and tested the soup’s temperature. Finding it just right, she brought it to Bai Xiaoxiao’s lips.
As Bai Xiaoxiao sipped the soup, she said softly, “Ranran, I promise that no matter what happens, I won’t act foolishly like I did yesterday. I want you to promise me the same; no matter what happens in the future, you have to be strong and not do anything foolish, okay?”
The urgency with which Xiao Wenqing had gone after Wen Ran was in part because her scandalous plot failed to affect Wen Ran. If Bai Xiaoxiao hadn’t escaped, their only option would have been to exchange herself for Bai Xiaoxiao’s freedom.
She would have done exactly that.
Even if Mo Xiuchen and Gu Kai would have disapproved, she would have been steadfast in her resolve. She had already made up her mind on the plane.
As soon as she fell into Xiao Wenqing’s hands, she would have been cruelly tortured, both mentally and physically. Her inability to bear children would be one of the first things Xiao Wenqing would use to torment her.
A flicker of confusion crossed Wen Ran’s face, unsure as to what Bai Xiaoxiao meant.
Bai Xiaoxiao frowned, pretending to be upset as she said, “Don’t look at me like that. Promise me first that no matter what happens, you won’t hurt yourself or those around you.”
Wen Ran chuckled, “Alright, I promise you.”
She thought about it and concluded that the ordeal Bai Xiaoxiao had undergone must have rattled her nerves, resulting in such strange utterances. Though Xiao Wenqing had been apprehended, Wu Tianyi was still at large.
However, she believed in karma, that those committing atrocities would ultimately face their downfall.
“Give me the bowl, I can eat on my own. Your gentle feeding is excruciatingly slow,” said Bai Xiaoxiao. As she spoke, a smile crept onto her face. She reached for the bowl.
“I’ll feed you,” Wen Ran refused to hand over the bowl.
“No, my hand’s fine. I can eat by myself. Your polite feeding manners are too much for me,” said Bai Xiaoxiao laughingly, so Wen Ran reluctantly handed her the bowl.
“Xiaoxiao, how did you think of calling Luo Haofeng last night, instead of Uncle Bai and the others?”
While Xiaoxiao was sipping the soup, Wen Ran casually asked.
Bai Xiaoxiao looked up at her and said naturally, “It was late in the night, and I didn’t want to disturb mom and dad. Yesterday, when Xiao Wenqing called them, I could hear mom crying on the phone. If I had called in the middle of the night, they wouldn’t have been able to sleep at all.”
Wen Ran smiled knowingly, “Anyway, you were able to call Luo Haofeng first and needed his assistance urgently. Needless to say, he must be walking on air.”
Realising the implications behind Wen Ran’s words, Bai Xiaoxiao constrained her surprise and glanced at the door. Quietly, she said, “Ranran, me and Luo Haofeng, it’s just not possible.”
“Why? Don’t you like him?”
Wen Ran was taken aback, looking at Bai Xiaoxiao incredulously. A moment later she added, “Is it because Aunt Qiao doesn’t like Luo Haofeng? Is she still upset about the time he ruined your blind date? Even so, Luo Haofeng did rescue you last night, so Aunt Qiao should have let it go by now.”
Bai Xiaoxiao’s gaze darkened, “Luo Haofeng did save me last night, but my mother hasn’t changed her opinion about him. She warned me bluntly at lunch that she wouldn’t approve of us dating and told me not to fall for him.”
Wen Ran was surprised, her eyes firmly fixed on Bai Xiaoxiao, “Xiaoxiao, do you also have feelings for Luo Haofeng?”
“I don’t know. Because of Xiao Yuting, I had already given my mother many years of worry. I don’t want to upset her again over another man. My feelings for Luo Haofeng are merely those of friendship.”
Even if there had ever been a moment of infatuation, her mother’s words quickly snuffed it out.
“Luo Haofeng is still waiting for you outside. Rumour has it, he hasn’t seen you since morning.”
Wen Ran pursed her lips and reminded her softly.
There was a flicker of emotion in Bai Xiaoxiao’s eyes. She lowered her head and continued to drink her soup.
Two minutes later, the door of the hospital room was pushed open. Mo Xiuchen’s tall figure appeared at the door, he called out in a deep, mellifluous voice, “Ranran, Xiaoxiao, are you two done whispering? If you’re done, we’re coming in.”
