Chapter Volume 2, 7.2: Unicorn’s Horn?

Volume 2, Chapter 7.2: Unicorn’s Horn④

「NOW COME! THIS ARROW WILL PIERCE THAT GUY’S HELMET! YOU PEOPLE DO EVERYTHING TO DISTRACT HIM, EVEN IF IT’S JUST FOR A MOMENT!」

Robin Hood raised his voice.

At this very moment, the masked men looked at how easily their opponent dispatched their comrades along with Clown, their boss.

They were at a loss.

However, even if it was only for an extremely short moment, those masked men had grown fond of Robin Hood’s skills and abilities.

As a result, all four remaining masked men went to surround Lambert.

「Over my dead body!」

Talmiya blocked the path of one of those masked men, attacking him with her double-edged knife.

「OUT OF MY WAY!」

However, that masked man just let the knife sink into his shoulder, forcefully tackling Talmiya’s body and pushing her backward.

The morale of the masked men couldn’t be compared to the first half of the battle, in which they were easily dispatched by the enemy whose numbers were far inferior to their own.

The other masked men also side-stepped the disturbance from 『Dancing Sword』 and went straight toward Lambert.

Robin Hood’s aim tracked Lambert’s every movement, waiting for an opening to strike him down.

Even though the arrow was a unique type, Robin Hood didn’t seem to be uncomfortable when using it.

The arrow that was fired from the Dragon King Bow was faster than the one fired from an ordinary bow.

Although the probability of dodging such an arrow was infinitely close to impossible, Robin Hood had this unshakeable conviction that the man in full-plate armor could easily dodge any incoming normal arrows fired at him, no matter how many.

「…」

Robin Hood’s eyes opened wide, as if to not miss a single possible gap.

One of the masked men was still on his horse.

He thrusted his spear while raising a war cry.

Lambert dodged the charge of the mounted masked man by a paper-thin margin, slicing the rider’s body in half.

The horse kept galloping away, carrying the remaining lower half of its rider as his blood spurted out like a fountain.

Robin Hood didn’t move at all.

His body was still, and thanks to that, his eyes had become accustomed to Lambert’s god-like speed.

Lambert might be a swordsman whose swordcraft had reached a transcendent state, but Robin Hood was also a marksman who was only half a step away from the same level.

Even though the second masked man had already swung his axe by the time Lambert slayed the rider, Lambert calmly stabbed that man’s chest with his greatsword. Without missing a beat, he pulled the weapon out of the now-dead body.

Using the residual force when he pulled out his greatsword, Lambert turned around and struck the cranium of the third masked man with the flat side of his greatsword.

The force behind that strike was so powerful, it was as if the third masked man’s skull exploded.

But Robin Hood didn’t move at all.

His entire body literally screamed in pain as he held back the Dragon King Bow’s bowstring.

There was only one masked man left. He had to shoot his arrow no matter what.

「AAAA… RAAAAAAAAAH!」

The last masked man equipped himself with a morningstar, a club with a spiked metal ball on its end.

His weapon had the highest chance to bypass Lambert’s full-plate armor and cause some damage to him.

However, that was only if the last masked man could land a hit on Lambert’s armor.

The masked man who arrived before Lambert felt as if his body was crushed by a mountain.

He knew that he would meet his doom whether he could hit Lambert or not.

His body was frozen stiff; his arms refused to obey the order from his brain.

But… but, as long as I can make an opening, even if it’s just a moment… That person’s arrow will surely kill this monster!

With that conviction, he raised his morningstar again.

The range of his weapon was far longer than Lambert’s greatsword.

He was convinced that he would be able to land a lucky strike by swinging his weapon randomly.

That was the conclusion he reached in the moment when his brain spun in full gear.

The last masked man stretched his arm as far as it could go, holding the other end of his morningstar to achieve an even greater range than Lambert’s greatsword.

The last masked man knew that couldn’t defeat Lambert. However, as long as his action could make a momentary opening, Robin Hood’s arrow would be able to pierce through the armor of the monster before him.

Lambert raised his arms while taking a bold stride forward.

The morningstar rose far above the masked man’s head.

「Ah…」

In the next moment, an overwhelming weight struck down on the crown of the masked man’s head.

Lambert pushed aside the body of the last masked man, who had been split in half as he rushed forward.

Robin Hood didn’t even flinch in front of the obvious danger.

To be exact, he couldn’t move.

After all, he knew that if he fired his arrow right at this moment, it wouldn’t hit its target.

He was completely fascinated by Lambert’s godlike swordcraft.

「Such… beautiful swordcraft.」

He lowered his blood-soaked arm, releasing the arrow to the ground below his horse.

The fired arrow burrowed deep into the ground along with a thunderous sound; none of its shaft could be seen sticking out of the ground.

「… Let’s retreat, Seraph.」

Upon hearing Robin Hood’s words, the blue horse turned around and escaped from that place.

Although the blue horse didn’t have a large frame, it was much faster than a common horse.

Robin Hood’s favourite horse, Seraph, could manipulate wind with its mana, adjusting the tailwinds to increase its running speed and avoiding headwinds that would slow them down.

Lambert recovered the greatsword that he threw with one hand at Robin Hood which landed where the latter used to stand.

The soil where his greatsword landed had been reduced to a small crater due to the impact it received after Lambert’s greatsword impacted it.

「Uhm… they’re already out of reach.」

Robin Hood turned around and looked at the place where Lambert’s greatsword had landed with a startled look on his face, but he had no intention of slowing down until he felt that he really was safe.

As I thought, I cannot chase after them unless I’m on horseback.

Lambert gave up on chasing his enemy.

After all, his purpose was to save the people who were under attack just now.

Although he misunderstood the situation, no one could deny that the evil one was exterminated.

Lambert knew that he couldn’t ask the people he saved from ruffians to lend their horses since none of them could withstand the weight of Organ.

And that still didn’t guarantee whether that said horse could overtake Seraph.

Because a horse of similar or finer breeding needed to be on par, or surpass, Seraph’s speed.

But that man… doesn’t seem to be the type that would let this matter pass like water under the bridge. I have to kill him as soon as possible. I do have a horse that can overtake his horse, but… I don’t think it’s a good idea to expose a headless horse in front of so many people.
