Chapter 42 – Knight’s Last Journey [2]
After walking for a while, Max found nothing noteworthy. He was even teleported to a new town when he stepped out of the forest. The glowing light was a bit away from the town, in front of a broken carriage on the roadside at the foot of a hill.
"Is this that kind of event?"
Max immediately guessed what kind of mission was waiting for him. The main mission was to reach the countryside, but as expected, it wouldn't be that easy.
There were side missions that he needed to finish before he could continue to his destination.
— The cliché
— Yeah... Help the broken carriage
— Yup yup! But do you think Breeze is able to do that?
— Breeze is a strong, smart, funny, dependable teacher streamer. Of course he can do that
— But he...
— Yeah... I don't know
'That?'
While he was confused, he still walked toward the glowing light. The elderly man standing beside the broken carriage turned to Max as he approached.
"Oh, young adventure! Can you help me with something?"
Not only did it have a classic plot, but the NPC also spoke a classic line. Not surprising. But as the chat said earlier...
'The developer is so lazy.'
Max smiled dryly as he answered, "What help do you need, elder?"
"You're so kind! Actually, my carriage is broken, and I only have 1 Gold. I-I am willing to give this to whoever helps us! My back hurt so much that I can't change the broken wheel!"
'Yeah, you're lying.' Max thought as he glanced inside the carriage. It was filled to the brim with gold bricks, far exceeding the carriage's weight.
But this was a mission that would show him his next objective nonetheless, so he accepted the request.
Smiling brightly, he exclaimed, "I will help you, elder. It's really easy!"
"Ooh, thank you, kind adventurer! If you may, please fix my broken carriage! That was what I wanted to ask, but there is an urgent matter."
"Urgent matter?" Max raised his eyebrows, looking at the elderly man nodding.
"Indeed!" He exclaimed. "Actually, our spare wheels were stolen. The thief who attacked us mistook it for the Gold Wheel of Fortune. That's why we actually don't have any wheels or any gold. Can you help us buy a wheel in the Rampant City over there and fix our broken carriage?"
[A new side mission is generated.]
While thinking, his character had brought a wooden carriage wheel and walked out of the city to meet the man. For some reason, many people ran around inside the town, and the gate inspection to enter the town took a long time.
However, Max couldn't even move his body freely yet, so he ignored them and focused on his side mission.
The hill obstructed the sight and hid the broken carriage. That was why the guards standing near the entrance didn't help the man.
Only when he arrived at the foot of the hill could he move the character freely. On top of that, he also saw a new beacon of light in the distance, on the opposite side of where the merchant was.
"Oh, does this mean I can either take this wheel and complete the side mission or just ignore it and go to the next objective?"
— Probably
— Who knows? Why don't you just finish the side mission first? You are already close to the merchant's location.
Reading the chat, Max narrowed his eyes suspiciously. There had to be a catch in this 'cliché' mission. There was no way the chat would react so strongly if it was just a regular fix to the broken carriage.
'Merchant, broken carriage, hidden behind a hill that can't be seen from the entrance. Inside the carriage are a lot of gold bricks. His story was also ridiculous.' Nodding his head, Max saw the top of the hill and stopped walking, 'Yeah, it's suspicious. Let's hide first.'
Thinking so, he decided to walk around the hill using bushes to conceal himself. He put the wheel in one of the bushes behind him so it wouldn't be found by anyone.
Watching Max suddenly change his course, the chat exploded.
— Noo!
— He's aware!
— Damn! WHY IS HE SO SMART!
— He's not smart. The ones who got scammed were STOOPID!
— Shut up and don't say anything more! I'll send you to Maru!
— Who's Maru?
— ^^ Kid, you don't wanna know... He's a cult leader... Scary...
Max's lips curled up as he silently stopped behind the carriage, hiding from the merchant's gaze. After a while, he could hear the merchant grumble.
"Fuck, where is he? Could he be detained by knights? That will be bad. I won't be able to run away with these golds if I have no goddamn wheel!"
'Jackpot!' His smile widened as he heard the merchant.
He smirked at the camera and raised his index finger.
"Sorry, but I am not clueless."
He actually wanted to put up a middle finger to his viewers, but he refrained because he didn't want to get a warning from Punch.
And the chat got disappointed and started to boo at him.
