Chapter 43 – Knight’s Last Journey [3]
After confirming that the merchant was trying to run away with these gold bricks, for some reason, Max decided to knock him unconscious and brought him to the guards near the entrance. The mission didn't fail even when he did that, so it was the correct choice.
But... He was somehow looked at by the guard suspiciously after he handed over the merchant and was told to wait in a small room with only two chairs and a simple wooden table in between.
— BUSTED!
— You Have Been Detained!
— Those guys are really strong. They can detain Breeze. How scary... Not even Hutch and Huh Ah were spared, but... how scary
"I don't think it will end up like this too..." Max sighed as he leaned back on his chair. The cutscene didn't play out, so this was still part of the mission. "Is the next mission breaking out of this room?" He smirked, imagining whether it was true.
A few moments later, the door was unlocked, and a knight dressed in full metal armor entered, sitting in front of him with a stern face.
"Apologies for the wait. Now, may I ask some questions?" The knight spoke in a serious tone, narrowing his eyes suspiciously, "First of all, what is your name?"
Just as the knight said that, Max was about to answer, 'I am your father!' but held himself back due to the sudden window that popped up in front of him.
[Choose your answer!
1. Tell the barrack knight your name and former affiliation.
2. Lie and tell the barrack knight a fake name.]
The world seemed to stop, just like when he chose the first weapon and cutscene. Max looked at the window and blinked his eyes.
"Is this where the route will branch?" He asked in a low voice.
Just as he remembered from his small research, Knight's Journey had multiple routes that could also branch into various endings depending on a player's choice. There were happy endings, and of course, bad endings also existed.
Currently, Max had arrived in the first branch and needed to choose to advance the main story.
Telling his name to the knight would definitely give him a free pass, as the name Breeze was already spread as an excellent knight in the cutscene he had seen before.
After looking at the two choices for a few seconds, he decided to ask the chat.
"Which one do you think I should choose, chat?"
— Lying is awful! Just tell him your name!
— True. As human beings, we shouldn't lie! Not even in a VR world!
— I raised you better than this, Breeze... You shouldn't lie!
— Ahem! Maybe you should lie once in a while.
— He became cringe because he forgot to slap or kick that knight! Rewind, please!
— I want to puke... But I must hold on!
— NOOO, he chose the second choice!
The knight NPC looked at Max with an intense gaze. He slowly glanced to the right at a small window that worked as the only ventilation for the room and nodded softly in a way that Max couldn't see. Or at least he tried to.
'It's really apparent.'
Max knew the second choice wouldn't be as easy as the first one, but he chose it anyway. Why?
'The chat wants me to choose the first choice desperately. There is no way I will give them what they want!'
An evil laugh rang in Max's head as he read the disappointed text in the chat.
At that moment, two knights holding weapons burst into the room and pointed their swords at Max.
"Sir, you are under suspicion of helping the evil merchant to smuggle gold bricks to Rami Kingdom. Please cooperate and follow us to meet the Magistrate." The knight spoke calmly, but there was a force behind his voice, "Please. Don't make us draw blood."
'So this is the second choice.' Max mused in his mind.
A new notification window appeared in front of his face as he nodded to the knight.
Ding!
[Helping Merchant side mission completed!]
So far, it was just as expected.
"Please follow these two knights. They will take you to the Magistrate's office gently."
"Very well," Max answered and stood up, following the knights who sheathed their swords back. He was walking between the knights uncomfortably and was guided toward where the next guiding light from his main mission was.
While walking between two knights, he smiled widely and looked at the floating camera. The knights didn't seem to mind and continued walking on his sides.
"Chat. It seems something fun will begin soon."
— So, being a prisoner is fun
— Oh, how low Breeze has fallen. My child has become an M!
— I didn't know you enjoyed this kind of play, Breeze...
"It's not like that!" Max retorted to the chat, and they exploded in laughter.
'Damn it. I need to watch my wording more in the future.' He growled in frustration as he looked at his destination, a huge castle with layered walls. 'My mouth is my tiger. I just blurted it out because I thought climbing that huge castle and running on its roof would be fun.
Indeed. Nothing was safe from the chat.
