Chapter 69: 100 Years
He bit her!
Lin Xinyu ducked and hid under the covers like a frightened rabbit. He held onto the blankets tightly, still feeling the lingering sweet taste in the corner of his mouth.
“Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff!” Under the covers, he suffocatingly panted non-stop, hearing only his own exhales.
“Xiaoyu! Xiaoyu! I’m fine. Come out quickly now.”
Lin Xinyu had lost his face to look at Lin Xin after he had bitten her.
“I’m really fine. Hurry up! Come out now or you’ll have a heart attack.”
He stubbornly stayed undercover and held his breath. Outside the blanket, he could hear Lin Xin’s footsteps as she paced back and forth. Suddenly, the pacing stopped and he heard a firm voice. “If you don’t come out, I won’t want you anymore.”
Lin Xinyu’s heart skipped a beat. He immediately lifted the blanket and peered through the covers. “Don’t leave me. I’ll be very obedient.”
Lin Xin let out a sigh of relief and, finding it funny, she walked over to him and patted Lin Xinyu’s head through the blanket. “If you listen to me, I won’t leave you. Change your clothes now, and let’s go to the doctor’s. When you’re well, you can do whatever you want.”
Lin Xinyu stared at the bite marks he left on her arms. Then, he asked, “Does it hurt?”
Lin Xin pulled down her sleeves to hide the marks on her hand and gave him a reassuring smile. “It doesn’t hurt. Get up quickly and let’s go. Uncle Cheng is getting impatient and I have to get my hand checked too.”
Lin Xinyu’s heart ached, remembering how he had injured Lin Xin’s hand. It was even more painful than when he had his panic attack. He became more obedient and quickly got out of bed. After changing into the shirt Lin Xin gave him, and pants, he followed her out of the room.
Cheng Qingrong was getting restless but he didn’t dare knock on the door and enter. Even when the nurse, Xiao Fang, pushed Aunt Hui away, he only paced back and forth in the living room. Once he saw the two coming out of the room, he impatiently called out, “Hurry! Hurry!”
He whisked the two to the parking lot and drove them to the hospital. Along the way, Lin Xin gazed at the familiar sights and landmarks of S city. ‘This city has a lot of things in common with my S city,’ she sighed. She even thought that she would be able to find her way back, should she decide to go sightseeing.
The car crawled along the road for more than two hours before reaching the hospital. Cheng Qingrong had previously set an appointment with a cardiologist for Lin Xinyu. The series of tests resulted in a conclusion already known to Lin Xin – Lin Xinyu has congenital heart disease. Its treatment would need him to undergo surgery. However, he could only do so when he gets older.
Getting a heart transplant is now his best option, but also a challenging one. Aside from the needed finances, the family would need a heart donor that would match Lin Xinyu. A heart transplant would also require him to be in good health and do regular visits to the hospital for checkups.
Although Cheng Qingrong is already used to life-and-death situations, this result still troubled him. If only his body was healthy, he could make an excellent surgeon.
What a pity.
Lin Xin was happy. If something as phenomenal as transmigration could happen, then a miracle is definitely possible. They are better off now than when they were in the orphanage. While Cheng Qingrong is not particularly good, he is kind. And although Aunt Hui is crazy, she is still gentle when she isn’t having her episode.
Now, she only has to wait for Lin Xinyu to reach adulthood for him to undergo surgery. Even if he couldn’t do extreme sports like a normal guy, he won’t have problems taking care of himself once he got married.
With this in mind, she took Lin Xinyu’s hands and consoled him saying, “The doctor said you will live for a hundred years, so you have to be fine from now on, alright?
Lin Xinyu knew his own body better than anyone else, but he still chose to believe in Lin Xin. If she said he could live for a hundred year, then so be it.
Time flew fast and they had been in S City for three years.
Lin Xinyu jumped to a height of 1.7 meters, while Lin Xin hovered between 1.5 and 1.6 meters. At fifteen years of age, her chest only grew to the size of two small buns. She mourned at the thought of how the gods must have been so envious of her figure and appearance in her past life, that she was assigned to this kind of body. Fortunately, she kept her wits with her when she crossed over. Otherwise, she would have felt truly helpless.
Since Lin Xinyu had a panic attack because of the white shirt two years ago, Lin Xin did not dare to be negligent. Afraid that the same episode would happen again, she started learning more about Psychology. She and Lin Xinyu also got admitted to the best high school in S City. In her free time, she dabbled into small enterprises such as buying and reselling things as well as doing English translations on the internet, all to accumulate capital.
She used the money she earned to open an account to buy shares from the stock market. With a good eye for stocks and the general knowledge of market trends, she was able to earn more money quickly. When the funds had accumulated to a certain amount, she would take out a sum to invest in businesses, while the remaining amount continued to earn in the stock market.
Even when she had her own money, she decided to stay at Cheng Qingrong’s house for two reasons. First, she was still underage and having guardians with them made things easier. Second, Aunt Hui’s mental state had been stable, to the point where she did not need any guards.
Not only would she greet Lin Xin and Lin Xinyu warmly, but she would also go buy vegetables and cook for them. Everyone presumed they were Aunt Hui’s own children when they accompanied her to the supermarket.
“Your son is so beautiful…”
“Your daughter is so cute.”
“You husband and wife pair are so lucky!”
Every time Aunt Hui heard these, she would hold both Lin Xin and Lin Xinyu’s hands and say, “Aiya, it’s great to have you two.”
Aunt Hui treated them sincerely like her own children that Lin Xin could not bear to part with her.
Even Lin Xinyu’s health improved greatly. Other than vigorous exercise and heavy sports, he could do anything as if he did not have a heart condition.
Even though his heart would not allow him to become a doctor, he still learned a lot about medicine from Cheng Qingrong. Cheng Qingrong thought that even if Lin Xinyu couldn’t practice medicine, he could still study Chinese medicine. In the end, he asked Lin Xin to persuade Lin Xinyu to take the medical exam. Lin Xin asked Lin Xinyu about this in secret but said he was not interested. After this, she did not bring it up again. He was free to choose whatever he wanted to learn, and she would respect and support his choice wholeheartedly.
After a peaceful summer vacation, both of them stepped into a new school.
