Chapter 125 - Who Hired Gogh?

Name:Help...My Wife is a Spy Author:Yunyi
Jackson was unconscious in the hospital for 4 days before he finally woke up. He wasn't lying when he said that Amelie was the first person he saw when he opened his eyes, nor was he lying about Amelie taking care of him the entire time. But, he never mentioned that Amelie wasn't alone.

Alexander was also there.

"Halia..." Jackson called out with his raspy voice as he finally woke up after 4 days.

Amelie had been in love with Jackson for a long time and she was honestly disappointed when he told her he already had a girlfriend. At first, she thought it was just a fling; that it wasn't going to last. But when Jackson called out a woman's name with what could have been his last dying breath, she realized how serious he was.

Then, when he called the same name again when he woke up, she knew it was time for her to well and truly move on. Jackson was right, this woman named Halia was so much better than her. At least, to Jackson she was, and Amelie knew she couldn't compete. She was simply glad that her friend was awake.

Amelie and Alexander stayed by Jackson's side as he slowly recovered. Fortunately, the bullet did not damage anything vital; he had simply lost a lot of blood. But, the scar was destined to forever remain with him.

Gogh, on the other hand, was found dead when Amelie arrived, so the police were never given the opportunity to properly question him; they could only assume that he was sent by Remy Durand.

But, a week later, on the day of Remy Durand's trial, Jackson finally saw the man again and realized he had no idea that he was going to be a witness. Neither did Pierre Caron. Both men were completely oblivious. In fact, when they saw each other before entering the courthouse Pierre was shocked that Jackson was injured, "Who did this to you? Was it a competitor?"

Jackson looked at the man suspiciously, "I'm not sure, but they sent Gogh after me."

"Gogh? That guy's ruthless! How did you escape?" Pierre asked in shock.

"The police arrived just in time," Jackson lied.

"Well, if it helps, I heard rumors that he owns a farm in Marseille. If I were you, I'd check there and see if there are any clues as to who hired him," Pierre suggested.

Jackson wasn't sure whether to trust the man, but he passed on the suggestion for Amelie and Alexander to follow.

While Jackson was on trial, his two friends searched through the Interpol database for any information they could find. Eventually, they came across a suspicious farm that seemed to be connected to Gogh.

They immediately sent a team to raid the place and discovered that Pierre was right, Gogh did own a farm.

On that farm, they found some mobile phones. The team searched through the call records of every single phone and finally discovered a call that was received a few days ago from an unknown number in Hong Kong.

When Jackson heard this, he was furious. Who in Hong Kong wanted him dead? He didn't know that many people from Hong Kong. Was it an old friend? Or perhaps, was it someone from his family?

After another week of recovery, Jackson finally decided what to do. He was going to go back to Hong Kong to find the person that hired Gogh and seek revenge. It would be completely off record. It was simply a private investigation unrelated to Interpol. After all, it did not affect national security. But, to do that, he needed the culprit to think that he posed no threat. So, he decided to pretend that he had lost his memory and he asked Amelie to assist him by pretending to be his girlfriend. Amelie needed to escape France anyway. The safe house had been compromised and her presence at the hospital for so many days probably exposed her to whoever tried to kill her a year ago, so her safest option was to leave.

His intention was to get revenge and return to look for Halia in Beijing afterwards.

But, to his surprise, he ended up meeting Halia again in Macau. What was she doing there? Was she simply there as the Director of Fengtai, or was she there because of another mission?

Whatever the reason, he knew she was there for a different reason to him and he didn't want to implicate her. The first day he arrived back in Hong Kong, he already sensed someone was following him, so he knew he had to be extra careful. Then, on the day he ran into Halia, he saw a suspicious figure lurking in the shadows. Whoever the instigator was, they were close. Worst of all, if the person that was after him was ruthless enough to send someone like Gogh, who knew what they would do to Halia if they knew how important she meant to him? He couldn't bear to imagine.

So, until he was certain who this person was, he was going to keep everything a secret from Halia.
