Chapter 141 - Wrong Son

Name:Help...My Wife is a Spy Author:Yunyi
That night, Halia arrived at a seafood restaurant near the wharf. From the restaurant, there was a beautiful view of the Pearl River Estuary and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge that connected Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland of China.

At night, when the skies were clear, it was a beautiful sight to see.

As soon as Halia walked into the restaurant, she spotted Emerson and his parents waiting for her. But, to her surprise, she also spotted another familiar person.

"Dad?" Halia asked in surprise as she approached.

Halia was shocked. She hadn't seen her father for almost a year. What was he doing in Macau?

Halia's father walked over to his dear daughter and gave her a hug. "Auntie Emma and Uncle Jack told me about you and Emerson, so I came to see my future son-in-law. Why didn't you tell me that you're dating Emerson?" he asked.

Halia looked at her father in confusion. Future son-in-law? Dating?

At that moment, Mother Wu nudged her son. "Go and pull out a seat for your girlfriend," she said.

Emerson immediately glanced at his mother awkwardly. "I heard what you said to Marissa the other day, so I decided to ask around. Supposedly, the two of you were already very intimate at the ball last month. No wonder you brought her back to our place. Why didn't you tell us that you and Haili were a couple? Don't you think that your parents deserve to know?"

"That's not it, Mom. I think..."

Father Feng looked at the young man with disappointment, "Were you planning to avoid taking responsibility?"

Halia shook her father's arm, "Dad, Emerson's not like that. I think there's a misunderstanding."

"Look at you, you're already sticking up for him..." the old man groaned.

At that moment, Father Wu stood up and said calmly, "Let's all sit down and have a proper chat. Henry, you don't have to worry, Emerson has always been very responsible. He will definitely take good care of your daughter."

Halia's father nodded his head and sat down. "Yes, I know that Emerson has always been the responsible one. Unlike your other son...what was his name again? Is he still involved with the gangs?"

Father Wu sighed, "You must be talking about Jackson. That rascal's actually here in Macau as well, but I don't want to talk about him."

Halia felt a little uncomfortable when she heard these people talk bad about Jackson. They had no idea who he really was and what he had been through.

"Oh yes, Jackson. I remember now, he was named after you. But, I heard you disowned him after Laura died," Halia's father said.

"If that rascal didn't lose his memory, I wouldn't have taken him back!" Father Wu said stubbornly as his face turned red and a vein popped out from the side of his head. He then gripped his chest in pain.

Emerson's mother immediately handed the old man a glass of water and patted him on the back, "Calm down, Jack. Your heart's not good. You can't blame your son. He is still your flesh and blood. It must have been difficult for him to witness his mother's death and be left with no friends nor family in Shanghai."

Halia glanced at Emerson's mother. Just like her son, she seemed like a very kind and understanding person. It was a shame that she started off as a mistress.

"I don't care what his reason was. He should have just come home instead of joining the gangs! Lucky you gave me Emerson," the old man smiled.

He then relaxed and glanced at Halia, "Best of all, he's found me a wonderful daughter-in-law too."

"Yes! Who knew we'd go from being good friends to becoming family!" Halia's father cheered excitedly.

Halia immediately turned to correct her father, but Emerson glanced at Halia worriedly and pleaded her not to say a word. He was worried that his father wouldn't be able to handle another shock for the day. So, she quickly swallowed back her words and decided she could explain everything to her father in private later.

After all...the old man was technically right about the possibility of becoming a family; he simply had the wrong son...

But, just as Halia took a sip of wine awkwardly, the old man suddenly pulled out a ring and said to his son, "Actually, this is the reason why I called everyone here today."

"Henry, this is the first time I've seen my son with a girlfriend and I'm ecstatic that it's your daughter," the old tycoon said.

"I actually had a medical checkup last week and discovered that my heart isn't doing too well. I really want to see my son get married and have children before I die. Since the two of you are mature a.d.u.l.ts, let's just skip all the dating and jump straight to marriage. What do you say?"
