That night, the newlywed couple and their friends and family gathered at one of the finest restaurants in Beijing to have dinner. Jackson couldn't take his eyes off his beautiful wife and Halia couldn't stop smiling from ear-to-ear. This was the happiest day of her life.
"I can't believe that you got married before me," Natalie complained jokingly, "And here I was, thinking my man was doing a good job planning a wedding within one month..."
Halia laughed. She was also surprised that Jackson managed to plan so much without her knowing. Especially when he was in Hong Kong, she was in Beijing, and their friends and family were from all around the world.
"I was shocked when he called me," Lily said. "Even though you told me he was actually Interpol, I subconsciously forgot and treated him like a gangster. I had my guard up at first, but when he explained everything to me, my heart melted. I wish I could find a man like your husband. You're so lucky."
Halia blushed a little. She had to agree that she was quite lucky.
But, she wasn't used to the attention, so she turned to Natalie and changed the subject, "Why didn't Sean come back with you?"
Natalie smiled and replied, "Pumpkin wouldn't let him go..."
Halia's expression softened, "Awww, that's so cute!"
"He wasn't even sad when I said I was going away for a few days. But as soon as I asked Sean if he wanted to come with me, the brat immediately grabbed onto his legs and said he couldn't go," Natalie said helplessly.
Halia laughed. "Kids are so entertaining."
Natalie glared at her friend, "If you think they are so entertaining, you should have one of your own."
Lily quickly chimed in, "You are at the perfect age to get pregnant. In a few years, your fertility will decline and it will get harder. Plus, you will have a higher risk of complications such as miscarriage and birth defects. You better begin working on it tonight..."
As she spoke, Lily nudged Halia with a wink. She was deliberately teasing her.
But, Halia quickly threw an attack back at her friend, "What about you? We're the same age but you haven't even got a boyfriend yet. If someone needs to put in some work, I think it should be you..."
Lily blushed, "I'm still waiting for the right guy."
"Maybe you need to be more realistic with your expectations. What about Isaac, he's a great guy. Have you ever considered him?" Halia suddenly asked seriously.
Lily scrunched up her nose, "Now that you mention Isaac, I think you should speak to him."
Halia looked at her friend with curiosity, "I've spoken to him a few times since I left the hospital."
"Well, I think he still likes you. He's been asking about you a lot lately," Lily replied uncomfortably. "I think you should clarify things with him."
Halia quickly held back a laugh. Was her friend jealous?
The truth was, she had already told Isaac that she was in a relationship a long time ago and had even announced that she was getting married in a recent conversation. In response, Isaac had actually revealed that he was developing feelings for Lily and he had asked her to be his wingwoman and matchmake them. That's why she mentioned Isaac in front of Lily. But, it seemed, her friend was oblivious to the man's feelings.
"What has he been asking?" Halia wondered. She had suggested that Isaac find a common topic to talk to Lily about, but she never expected him to use her as this common topic. How sloppy of him.
"He asked me what you've been doing lately and where you're working now. He also asked if you had a brother or a twin..." Lily replied.
Halia thought for a second and quickly laughed. That was right, Isaac saw her dressed as Mars at the hospital recently.
"I forgot. I haven't revealed my identity to him yet. He ran into me last time while I was dressed as a man and it must have confused him. Do me a favor. When you get the chance, sit down with him and help me reveal everything to him," Halia said, trying to make a chance for the two to interact.
"Why don't you tell him yourself?" Lily asked suspiciously.
At that moment, Natalie suddenly cut in, "Mrs. Wu is going to be busy making babies, remember? Plus, she should start planning her honeymoon soon. As her bridesmaids, we should help out wherever we can..."
Natalie had known Halia since they were kids and understood her well. Halia could move a finger and Natalie would already know what she was thinking. So, she had already gathered from their conversation that Halia was trying to set up Lily with this Isaac guy.
Lily laughed at Natalie's comment and nodded her head, "Yes, I almost forgot that Mrs. Wu has a lot of work on her hands."
Lily thought she was teaming up with Natalie to tease Halia. But, unbeknownst to her, the two best friends were actually teaming up against her.
Halia pretended to be embarrassed and quickly turned to look for her third bridesmaid. She had to leave before Lily found a reason to reject her again.
At that moment, she spotted Amelie having a conversation with Jaclyn. "I'm going to go speak to Amelie instead," Halia said as she went to sit next to Amelie and her new sister-in-law.
As she walked past Natalie, she gave her a slight wink. Her best friend had just wingwomanned a wingwoman.
Natalie quickly held back a laugh.
...
Meanwhile, not too far away, inside a hotel suite, a phone rang.
A pair of long slender fingers slowly picked up the phone and answered it, "Hello."
"Marissa, you wouldn't believe what I just saw!" a high pitched voice squealed.
Marissa placed the phone on loudspeaker, sat down at her dressing table, and started brushing her hair.
"What?" she asked indifferently. Her friends often contacted her with gossip, but unless it was related to Emerson, she never really cared.
The woman on the other end took a deep breath and controlled her excitement as she said, "Haili Feng just got married!"
Marissa quickly paused and stared at the phone with disbelief, "Married? Who did she marry?"
