113 A Blind Date
“That won’t do! It’s my treat. You guys can choose the location.” Wang Sheng waved his hand generously. Then, he looked at Han Xu, who had hurriedly sent a message before stuffing his phone back into his pocket. He scolded jokingly, “Kid, are you addicted to spreading news? Today, only our forensics office is involved. No outsiders are allowed!”
Han Xu immediately smiled shyly at Shen Yin and scratched his head in embarrassment.
He had indeed sent Meng Heng a message to tell him that Shen Yin was back at work, but he had not expected Wang Sheng to catch him red-handed and expose him in front of Shen Yin.
Shen Yin smiled nonchalantly. “Alright, it’s settled then. Let’s get to work first.”
Shen Yin easily slid back into the work at the forensics office. She felt much more at ease than when she was cooped up in the hospital.
She really liked this job. Being here made her feel that her life had meaning.
It was almost noon, and the forensic pathologists had yet to come to a conclusion on where to eat.
Shen Yin was in a good mood and was enjoying their bickering. When it was time to get off work, Shen Yin slowly stood up from behind her desk and heaved a long sigh of relief. She banged the table and said, “Let’s go to the Western cafeteria that Zheng Ling recommended.”
Zheng Ling jumped up with a cheer and looked smugly at the defeated Han Xu. Then, she held Shen Yin’s hand and pulled her boss out of the police station.
The cafeteria that Zheng Ling recommended was a newly opened one in the city center. It was giving a huge discount to celebrate its opening.
She held Shen Yin’s arm and walked in happily. When she entered, she realized that the restaurant was already crowded. There was no way the new customers could find an extra table. Many people were still queuing up on the chairs outside the door. It would take at least half an hour before it was their turn.
She immediately lowered her head dejectedly and sighed. “If I had known, I would have booked in advance. I’m sorry, Boss. Looks like our western food plan is ruined.”
“Not necessarily.” Shen Yin raised her chin and pointed to a booth in the middle of the cafeteria. She smiled and said, “We’re in luck today. My friend is seated at that table. Can we sit together?”
“Of course.” The waiter immediately led them to that table. When they got closer, they heard Li Zi’s confident voice. Sitting opposite him was a gentle and refined man.
Li Zi’s eyes lit up when she saw her. She waved and called them over. “Yin Yin, come and sit here!”
The man stood up and nodded politely at Shen Yin and the others.
Shen Yin looked at Li Zi in confusion. The latter shyly introduced the man. “This is my blind date, arranged by my mother. His name is Gu Cheng.”
Shen Yin nodded politely at the man, then looked at Li Zi and said guiltily, “Then I’m disturbing you. You guys carry on. We’ll eat at another restaurant.”
“You don’t have to stand on ceremony.” Gu Cheng made way for Wang Sheng, Han Xu, and Zheng Ling to sit at his previous seat. Then, he let Shen Yin sit beside Li Zi while he sat on Li Zi’s other side. “Since you’re Li Zi’s friends, you’re my friends. Since we’re fated to meet today, why don’t you sit down and eat together?”
“Waiter.” He raised his hand to summon the waiter and politely handed the menu to Shen Yin and the others. “What do you like to eat? Order whatever you want.”
“I can’t accept that.” Shen Yin politely declined as she flipped open the menu. However, Gu Cheng insisted hospitably and she was forced to accept. So she pursed her lips and casually ordered a few dishes at that were not too expensive.
The waiter took away the menus and went to the kitchen to deliver their orders.
The addition of Shen Yin and the others did not disturb the originally warm atmosphere between the two of them. Gu Cheng was considerate and mature enough to pay attention to everyone present. Even Han Xu, who usually did not like to talk to strangers, had a good impression of him.
By the time the attendant brought the steak to the dining table, they had already made friends with Gu Cheng and they were chatting and joking.
Li Zi listened quietly, a hint of satisfaction in her eyes. This was the kind of man she liked.
Shen Yin could tell that Li Zi liked him, and she was sincerely happy for her friend. However, before she could tease them about where they were going for their next date, the noisy restaurant fell silent. Everyone’s eyes focused on the hostile-looking woman who had just entered.
She looked around the dining hall and after determining the direction to take, she waved aside the waiter and rushed to the table. She picked up the red wine that had just been poured and splashed it on the woman seated in the middle.
