170 Missing Child
The scent of blood in the secret passage grew stronger and stronger, and it almost made the hardened Wu Zheng vomit. However, Shen Yin sniffed indifferently and led Wu Zheng into the only room at the end of the secret passage.
The room only contained a bed and an operating table. A cobwebbed-covered chain dangled from the head of the bed and draped on the floor. Judging from the amount of dust on the floor, no one had been in here for a long time.
Wu Zheng sighed with relief. He put away his pistol and walked to Shen Yin’s side with a flashlight. “This should be the first crime scene.”
Shen Yin gave a faint “hmm” and looked for the switch. The lights instantly turned on and she gaped in disbelief as she looked at the tragic scene in front of her.
The floor was covered in dried blood. Upon closer inspection, one could clearly see a few drops of milky white stains on the bedsheets. Almost the entire operating table was covered in blood, and there was a conspicuous, bloody hand print.
These traces made it easy to imagine what Tan Li had gone through before she died.
Shen Yin followed the increasingly large bloodstains on the floor to the only clean spot in the corner. The bloodstains stopped abruptly at the corner.
“Something must have been placed here.” Shen Yin closed her eyes and subconsciously thought of the missing child.
After those beasts violated a pregnant woman who was about to give birth, they forcefully performed a C-section and took out the fetus and internal organs. They threw the pregnant woman’s corpse outside. They had no regard for human life at all.
Wu Zheng walked around the bloodstained operating table and walked to Shen Yin’s side to look at the clean spot. He said in a low voice, “Where did they take the child?”
Shen Yin closed her eyes, her mind repeatedly replaying the scene that must have been like hell on earth. Suddenly, she thought of a place. She opened her eyes abruptly and gritted her teeth to fight the surge of nausea. “I know where they brought the child.”
Human nature was often worse than one could imagined. In order to obtain drugs, Hu Jin had not hesitated to sell his wife and child to the organ traffickers.
However, when this criminal gang only got a baby who had died shortly after it had been cut out of its mother, they would definitely feel shortchanged.
The most powerful deterrent would be to return the dead baby to Hu Jin as a threat. Ever since the police had begun to suspect Hu Jin, he had been under constant police surveillance. He could not possibly have the opportunity to get rid of the baby’s body.
So he could only have hidden the baby in a place that he had been to before police surveillance started.
The car stopped at the entrance of a villa. The old couple clutched each other, seemingly at a loss. The old lady seemed greatly relieved to see Shen Yin. She grabbed Shen Yin’s hand and begged, “Young lady, you’re finally here. Hurry up and help us.”
“Auntie, take your time and tell me what’s the matter.” Shen Yin comforted the old lady and went with her to sit down on the bench at the entrance of the villa.
When Tan Li’s father saw that his wife had grown calmer, he sighed and said awkwardly, “Ever since Ah Jin came last time, there has been a smell coming from the garage on our first floor. Cen Cen and I don’t have the key and can’t enter the garage, but the stench is getting worse day by day. We don’t dare to call the police for fear of troubling them, so the matter has dragged on until now.”
Shen Yin said calmly, “It’s nothing serious. Why don’t the two of you take a walk in the garden. We’ll settle it quickly.”
“Really! Thank you so much, young lady.” The old man smiled and patted his wife’s shoulder. “Look, it’s just like I said. If there’s any problem, just ask the police. You’ve been worrying about it for so many days for nothing. You should have just told the police earlier?”
The old lady smiled and nodded. Then, she looked at Shen Yin and asked hesitantly, “Did something happen to my son-in-law? I’ve been calling him for so many days, but I haven’t been able to get through.”
Shen Yin and Wu Zheng looked at each other and decided to hide the truth for the time being. They would find a suitable opportunity to break the news to the old folks gently so that they would not be too agitated. “Grandma, don’t worry. It’s fine. We’re here.”
“That’s good, that’s good.” The old lady was no longer as difficult as before. Shen Yin’s words calmed her. She leaned on her husband and went for a walk in the garden.
Shen Yin and Wu Zheng waited for the two of them to walk far away before quickly walking to the garage. Wu Zheng took out lock pick and easily unlocked the door. Without the door to act as a barrier, the stench of decay instantly filled the air.
However, Shen Yin stood at the garage door as if she could not smell anything. She stared blankly at the baby, which had been placed in the middle of the garage, as if it was asleep.
“It’s really my grandson.”
When Shen Yin heard the voice behind her, she swiftly turned around and saw the old man standing alone outside the garage, looking with teary eyes at the little one that should be alive and kicking.
“Why are you here?” Shen Yin hurriedly supported the old man.
The old man wiped his tears and smiled bitterly. “I found it strange when Hu Jin came that day. I saw him secretly put something into the garage. Then, a smell started spreading a few days later. I didn’t expect it to really be my poor grandson!”
