234 Another Property
After they walked out of the interrogation room, Wu Zheng carefully thought over what Dong Chang had just said. Then, he looked at Shen Yin and said, “Do you think the murderer is Dong Chang or his father, Dong Heng?”
Shen Yin shook her head and said, “I don’t believe what he said just now. Lies are always half-truths to make them more believable, but there’s one thing I find strange.”
Wu Zheng asked curiously, “What?”
Shen Yin stopped in her tracks and walked into the surveillance room. She pointed at the replay of the interrogation and said, “There are no injuries on his hands. In the third case, I deduced that the victim had probably scratched the murderer and the wound would still on his be right hand. However, Dong Chang’s hand showed no signs of concealment. That wound would not have healed so quickly.”
“That’s strange.” Wu Zheng also remembered this and asked uncertainly, “Could there be a problem with our deduction?”
Shen Yin stared at the screen thoughtfully and said, “Actually, I’m more inclined to believe that all of this was done by Dong Chang. He’s too good at acting, and his explanations are always flawless. I feel that he already thought of all these explanations long ago.”
Wu Zheng sighed and frowned deeply. “Let’s go back to the office first and see the results of Zou Sheng’s investigation.”
In Team Three’s office, Zou Sheng was repeatedly typing on the keyboard in front of the computer with a frown. When he saw the two of them return, he immediately complained to them in frustration, “The surveillance cameras in Dong Chang’s neighborhood were destroyed a week ago. We can’t find any evidence of whether he was really at home on the day of the crime.”
Wu Zheng unscrewed his thermos and took a sip of water. He slowly asked, “Who destroyed it? What did the property manager say?”
“The property manager said that it was done by a group of children. The family already compensated them. It’s just that the property manager has been too busy recently, so he didn’t have the time to install new surveillance cameras. The matter was put on hold.” Zou Sheng collapsed into the chair and rubbed his eyebrows tiredly.
For the entire day, he and Meng Heng were either at the bar, dealing with the cunning Manager or repeatedly watching all kinds of surveillance footage. Now, they were dizzy and they did not even have time to eat a hot meal.
“That’s quite a coincidence.” Shen Yin smiled mysteriously. She took the hot water from Meng Heng and thanked him softly. “By the way, based on the surveillance cameras at the bar, what color was Dong Chang wearing?”
“A white shirt.” Meng Heng had specially taken note of this, so he answered quickly.
According to Shen Luo’s testimony, the suspicious man she saw that day was wearing a blue shirt. It did not match Dong Chang’s clothes, but she could not rule out the possibility that he had gone home to change before going out to commit the crime.
However, the main problem now was whether Dong Chang’s father was involved in this case.
“Can you find Dong Heng’s home address?” Wu Zheng put down the thermos and sat back down.
Zou Sheng leaned against the chair limply. He closed his eyes and shook his head. “How are we going to find him? It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack!”
Shen Yin was looking through Zou Sheng and Meng Heng’s interrogation records of Dong Chang’s mother. Looking at the approximate time that Dong Heng had gone to Dong Chang’s house to cause trouble, she suddenly asked, “Other than the house where Dong Chang lives with his mother, does he own any other properties?”
“Let me check.” Zou Sheng immediately perked up. After typing a little on the computer, he snapped his fingers and pointed at the screen with a smile. “He does! But it’s a bungalow in Chengxi…”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zou Sheng suddenly realized something. He zoomed in on the location of the bungalow in Chengxi and said in shock, “Isn’t this where we captured Shen Cheng that night?!”
They quickly crowded over to look. After Meng Heng memorized the address, he picked up the car keys and looked at Wu Zheng. “Captain, are we leaving?”
“We don’t have a search warrant.” Wu Zheng frowned slightly. He obviously thought of something and said coldly, “Don’t act rashly. I’ll apply for a search warrant from the chief. We’ll set off together after the search warrant is issued.”
“Ah? How long will that take? Then what should we do now?” Zou Sheng’s enthusiasm was instantly extinguished. He slumped back into his chair dispiritedly and looked at Wu Zheng innocently.
Wu Zheng looked at him indifferently and said nothing. He turned around and walked out of the office to apply for a search warrant.
Shen Yin and the other two looked at each other and shrugged helplessly. “Captain Wu is very principled when it comes to solving cases. He won’t act rashly without the proper paperwork. We can only wait.”
“Are we going to wait in the office like idiots?” Zou Sheng spun his chair in boredom. After swinging it around, he suddenly stopped. He looked at the two of them excitedly and suggested, “Why don’t we go and eat! I’ve been hungry for a long time. Police work is really not for ordinary people!”
Shen Yin smiled and waved her cell phone. She raised her eyebrows and said, “I’ve just ordered takeout. It’ll be delivered soon.”
Zou Sheng was so happy that he almost jumped up. He shouted, “Long live the goddess.”
