242 The Last Person
“Alright then.” Wu Zheng let Meng Heng take him away.
They went to the lounge together. Shen Yin took out a video recorder and placed it in front of Dong Chang. Then, she sat beside Zhao Wan’s parents and looked at Dong Chang, who was sitting opposite her. “You were looking for them, right? You secretly set up the tombstone in the cemetery. There’s actually nothing buried there, right?”
“Yes.” Dong Chang smiled bitterly and looked up at Zhao Wan’s parents. He forced out a guilty smile. “Uncle Zhao, Aunt Fang, I’ve let Wan Wan down. All these years, I’ve been thinking of all kinds of ways to find you, but it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.”
“Why are you still looking for us?” Father Zhao wiped his wife’s tears, but his own tears continued to flow over his wrinkled face.
“I want to make it up to you on Wan Wan’s behalf.” A tear silently fell from the corner of Dong Chang’s eye. He leaned forward slightly and closed his eyes. He endured the unbearable pain in his heart and begged humbly, “Can you tell me where Wan Wan is buried? I miss her very much. I really want to see her again.”
“Wan Wan wouldn’t want to see you again. Dong Chang, this world has hurt Wan Wan too deeply. Let her go so that she can lay down everything and move on to her next life.” Mother Zhao was already sobbing uncontrollably. The hair at her temples was white.
Ever since the couple lost Zhao Wan, they had not given birth to any children.
They did not want Zhao Wan to be grieved when she found out that her parents had another child.
“No! Wan Wan certainly wants to see me! I’ve already avenged her!” Dong Chang roared uncontrollably. The veins on his neck suddenly stood out, and his fair face turned red. Hot tears streamed down his face.
Mother Zhao’s words had agitated Dong Chang, causing him to spill the beans in a moment of desperation.
Wu Zheng immediately caught his slip of the tongue and asked coldly, “Avenge? How did you avenge her?”
Father and Mother Zhao also looked at him in confusion. When Dong Chang realized what he had just said, he laughed at himself and shook his head. “No, it’s not done yet. There’s still one last step.”
“What’s the last step?” The omnious feeling in Shen Yin’s heart deepened. Her intuition flustered her, and she slammed the table and stand up.
Dong Chang stared at her and his mocking expression vanished. Instead, he gazed at her in infatuation and smiled. “Miss Police, you really look like her. If I had met you earlier, I might have stopped long ago. But it’s too late now.”
“What do you mean!” Wu Zheng also realized that something was amiss and questioned him with wide eyes.
Dong Chang lowered his eyes and smiled foolishly. “I’ve been looking for Wan Wan for more than ten years. Do you know how much I want to see her again? I dream every night that my Wan Wan is still alive. She ought to have a good life!”
Shen Yin saw that he had grown rather irrational and took a deep breath, as if she instantly understood something.
Her beautiful eyes widened as she stared at the man in front of her, who was so unapproachable. “You’re looking for a replacement for Wan Wan.”
He kept to himself and hid himself in a small world where only had he and Wan Wan existed. However, he kept trying to prove that Wan Wan still existed in the real world.
“Your name is Shen Yin, right?” Dong Chang suddenly raised his head and looked at her gently. “I really wished that I had met you first. Everything might be very different.”
Shen Yin already understood everything. She looked at Dong Chang with pity and hatred in her eyes. “Tell me where you hid Dong Heng. Stop this now.”
“It’s useless, Shen Yin.” Dong Chang smiled bitterly and shook his head. “The law doesn’t care how many people a criminal has killed because they can’t shoot a person twice. So I must fulfil my desires.”
“Shen Luo! Your last target is Shen Luo!” Shen Yin suddenly took out her phone and dialed the number she had just sent a text to. But this time, no one picked up.
“Quick, save her!” Wu Zheng also reacted and instantly stood up from his seat. He instructed, “Zou Sheng, find Shen Luo’s last location. Meng Heng, bring this beast back to the interrogation room and lock him up. No one is to release him.”
“Yes.” The two of them immediately got down to work.
Zou Sheng quickly found the surveillance cameras near the Shen house and identified when Shen Luo was last seen on the surveillance cameras. He turned around and reported, “Shen Luo was last seen at home two hours ago. She disappeared from an alley outside the neighborhood without surveillance cameras. There are no traces of her after that.”
“Can you locate her phone?” Shen Yin asked anxiously.
Zou Sheng quickly got to it. Then, he frowned and said in confusion, “Strange, her cell phone signal is still moving. Perhaps nothing has happened to Shen Luo?”
“Where is it?” Wu Zheng picked up his car keys and asked as he stood up and rushed out.
Zou Sheng looked at the location of the signal and replied, “It’s a street in Chengxi. Captain, you go first. I’ll report the location to you in real time.”
