Chapter 208: Rights to Succession
Although he was late in stopping his blabbering mouth, he was already too late and said something he shouldn’t have. The Count’s face expressed futility.
“Please forgive me, your majesty.”
He slid down from the chair and immediately kneeled in front of Igor. At this point, he must appeal to the young king as much he could and try to find a way out of this situation. He can plan his next time after getting out of here.
“It’s true what you’ve heard, but I’ve never once agreed to her suggestion. All of this was planned out completely by herself. So please, at least spare my life and…”
“I will not kill you. At least this time.”
Hearing the following words, the Count lifted his head. ‘At least this time’? While the Count wondered what he could have meant by that, the king’s purple eyes darkened.
“Since you are no threat to me whether I keep you alive or not, and since you’re a completely useless being, it’s why I decided to not care about you at all, and I also do not wish to dirty my hands at this point as well. But in order for me to let you go, you will need to confess every single thing you know about Leticia.”
“Everything… About Leticia?”
“Only then I will be able to have enough reason to let you free. If the truth is that you fell for the charm of a wicked woman, then you’ll at least be able to gain some trifling sympathy. If you do so, then I will end this case only saying that you and your siblings conspired to steal the right of succession.”
“What do you mean, stealing the right of succession!?”
“If you don’t want to, then just die.”
The count thought he misheard for a moment. This was the king that was famous for being wise and merciful around the whole town. He was famous for never having any ulterior motive, and always taking care of problems through proper law procedure. Because of that temperament, he was able to take political power from the queen without having to drop a single drop of blood in the process. He even brough victory to Arundel during it’s war against Chrichton while making sure that there are minimum casualties.
And yet, that man was threatening Clobis to give him the rightful succession to the throne or simply be killed.
The Count blinked his eyes multiple times wondering if there was someone else standing in front of him. However, the face that was smiling towards him was definitely Igor Cheska, the king of Arundel.
“It won’t end with just your death, Count. I will round up every one of your siblings that have the right of succession and frame them for all conspiracy before hanging their necks on the castle wall. Do you think I won’t do such thing?”
The Count took a moment to think whether Igor can truly do such a thing. Soon, he came to the conclusion that it may not be easy, but doing that was not impossible for him.
Was there any moment where Igor didn’t get what he wanted so far? He had stolen the political power from his mother that looked as if she will never fall from her position, and he was also the man who made the most powerful naval ships of Chrichton immediately bow down to his will.
The count knew that the way of trying to gain what you want without spilling a single drop of blood was the hardest method. Therefore if he is willing to stop going with such difficult methods and simply spill blood on the ground to easily get what he wants again, he is likely to do so.
More than anything, the light in his eyes was unnatural. There was not even a single mote of light in his eye, dark and completely devoid of color. The Count, who had quite a lot of experience in many things throughout his life, felt this could be a warning of his madness.
“I’m sure you know that the nobles will never support you once they realize that planted a spy in the palace to spy on my every move. That would be plenty enough suspicion to turn to nobles to my side.”
As the Count stared with blank and stunned expression, Igor smiled.
“What would you like to do? Would you like to let it end with you giving up your succession to throne and confessing everything you know about the woman? Or would you like to throw away that petty life of yours for that greed in your mind?”
The Count lifelessly dropped his head downwards. Unbelievable. He only then realized that everything was over for him, before he could even do or start his plan at all.
