Chapter 238: No Pity
Rihannan only then realized that all the accessories that she once had on her body were gone. The coat that Madam Cessley put on her body herself was also gone somewhere.
“I am planning to burn this place down. Then I’ll drop one of those accessories around this house and give the rest to those foolish starving people. Once they begin to try and sell it on the market, the people of the palace would follow the trail and blame them. In the end, everything will have to go according to my plan.
Danil gazed at Rihannan with his silver eyes. He predicted that at this point Rihannan would burst into tears or plead for her life desperately. However, she quietly glared at him with cold wrath inside of her.
“I don’t have any pity for you.”
Suddenly, Danil spoke what he didn’t mean to say at all. He simply couldn’t help but say that once he saw Rihannan making an expression that he didn’t expect.
“I once had a thought like this in the past a few times… That if the words I spoke in order to push Dimitri to do his best helped connect you two and ended with the marriage of you two, I may have ended up liking you… If that had been the case, then my relationship with Dimitri could have been improved as well. You wouldn’t have been sent to Arundell like this if that had happened too.”
This particular woman was often in his mind. Whenever he looked at her looking like a doll beside the princess, he sometimes thought he would like to crack open that head of hers and find out what she’s truly thinking. He then realized it later. That the words that he spoke to Dimitri may not have been simply an intentionally created plan.
But in any case, none of it mattered now.
“So it really is a pity. To end up killing you with my own hands like this.”
“Duke Danil Lyurik.” Rihannan slowly opened her mouth. In her eyes, blue flames alighted. “It is I that actually would like to say that I pity you. Even if you were to rewind the time itself and go back to the past and change everything, I will never end up falling for you. You are no more than a dirty dog serving the crown prince, and for that I genuinely despise and hate you.”
Rihannan spoke as if she was spitting out the disgust from her mouth.
“And even if you are to kill me here and now, you won’t be able to stop Dimitri. Dimi is someone that is much more powerful and fearsome than you ever thought after all. He will make sure to make you pay for the sin you cause today, so I would like to simply say that you’ll live in perpetual fear and anxiety until that moment arrives.”
Hearing those words, Danil didn’t show a single expression of anger nor anything else. His lips simply twisted a little as if he was making a vague smile or smirk. It may have actually sounded like empty laughter.
“As expected of Dimitri’s sister, you have the same attitude towards me as him…” He let out a small sigh, then pulled out something from his pocket. It was a small glass bottle. Rihannan knew right away what that was. “Whatever feelings you have towards me, I still don’t wish to intentionally make you feel pain before your death. This is the honest truth.”
He let the glass bottle down onto the bedside table. The sky blue liquid that was inside the bottle shook a little. Rihannan stared at it while keeping her mouth shut tight.
“It would be much better for you to die by drinking poison rather than die from burning to death. I heard often that it’s medicine that is used for suicides. It’s not like you won’t feel any pain at all, but it seems that it will still deliver you swift death. I’ll leave the decision up to you. Whether you would like to die by drinking this, or to die in a fire.”
Finishing his words, he looked at Rihannan for a moment then soon left the room. Rihannan heard the sound of the door outside closing and being locked. It was to make sure that she wouldn’t be able to escape once he set the house on fire.
Rihannan didn’t move an inch even after he had left the room, and after a long time she slowly stretched out her hand.
Her fingers wrapped around the cold glass bottle. Rihannan realized that the worrying thought in her mind came exactly true as she predicted.
In the end, those long 6 years had come back around to her.
