Chapter 250: The Same As You
The queen mother stepped backwards unconsciously by his expression.
“I didn’t want it to be like this either. You know how much I loved and cared for that girl!” She was barely able to squeeze her words out of her mouth. “If you had just followed what I told you to do, this wouldn’t have happened. If you only didn’t spread those rumours about Leticia being your mistress, this wouldn’t have happened. In the end, Rihannan’s death was because of you!”
Was Rihannan’s death really because of him? He thought about the possibility for a moment, then immediately admitted it. Ahh, yes. His mother’s words were right. Rihannan was dead by no one else’s fault but his. She had fallen down the stairs because of him, as well as made her lose her child.
If the child inside her was still okay, then the situation would have been different. The queen gets to keep their political power over others just by the fact that they have the king’s child within them, after all. However, she had lost her child and was killed subsequently because of that. Because of the rumours he had spread about Leticia, he had ultimately given his mother an excuse to do this.
“Do you have any idea just how much pain went through my heart as I ended up making that decision? There was no one that I treasured more than Rihannan. I had taken her in and raised her as if she was my own daughter. That’s why I was being so nice to her this whole time even though she couldn’t give birth to a child. I felt like I was going to vomit blood from the anguish I had from making the decision. It was definitely not an easy decision to make!”
Her words had some truth to it. The queen mother cared for Rihannan in her own different way. However, the queen mother was definitely not someone that would let go of the very last chance at being able to keep a hold of political power. The very reason why she helped elect Rihannan as a queen at such a young age was so that she would quickly give birth to an heir in case something like this happens, after all.
Seeing the political powers that she was holding in her hands as if it was a definite thing turn over to her son’s instead of hers, it made the queen mother blind with greed. There was no other thing that makes a person more blind than wanting something that they once had back in their hands, something so close and powerful.
The moment that power that she desperately wanted to keep was taken from her hands, she immediately didn’t see anyone’s life as more valuable over her ambition. Whether that person’s life was her own son or goddaughter.
“…I think I can begin to understand you now, mother.”
Hearing his sudden unexpected words, the queen mother felt overjoyed.
“Yes. Thank you, Igor. Thank you for understanding. Ahh, it’s such an unfortunate thing that things had to turn out this way.” Tears ran down her face as she came towards Igor. “But I am glad that you are at least awake and healthy. It’s a shame what happened to Rihannan but even these things, after a long time…”
She couldn’t complete her sentence. A long blade that was pulled out from its scabbard before anyone realized was already stabbed through her stomach. The queen mother looked up with wide open eyes, unable to believe what’s happening.
“I… Igor…”
“I now understand that I am the same type of human as you, mother.”
Igor slid out the sword from her stomach in the same way it slid in. Blood spilt out all over the floor and a painful scream rang out. Seeing the queen mother fall to the floor with no strength left in her, Igor spoke without a single emotion in his expression.
“You and I were the type of people who can never forgive anyone if the thing they desperately wish for was taken away from them. I now realized that it was succession to the throne for you, and for me, it’s her. It was Rihannan. You took her away from me.”
