Chapter 251: He Was Like Her
It wasn’t like the queen mother was blind to holding political power from the beginning. In her days as a princess, she was well known for being bright and clever. However, in order to keep peace within Arundell she needed to give the crown to Igor, and the fact that she never was able to have the crown herself slowly gnawed at her from the inside of her mind. And eventually, it drove her to madness like this.
He himself realized that the same madness was within him. Once Rihannan had died, everything else had lost all meaning. Even as he looked at his own hand drenched in his mother’s blood, he didn’t feel any particular emotion from him. He felt as if he had become a completely different human in just a few short moments. He now fully understood. He knew what kind of mind the queen mother must have had as she murdered numerous royal family members of Chrichton as well as doing that to Rihannan.
That was the mind he had right now. People no longer looked like people to him. If he needs them he wouldn’t kill them, but if he doesn’t, he can kill them whenever he wishes. They die so easily like this, so what’s the problem?
He should have just taken this easy method earlier.
“Your Majesty…”
As Basil opened the door to the room and witnessed the situation, he fell onto the floor on his knees. Even so, he quickly scrambled up to close the door so that no one else could see the body, to which let out a small laughter. Seeing him laugh like that, Basil became even more afraid.
“Your Majesty, why did…”
“Clean it up.” Igor glanced for a moment at the corpse of the queen mother with his narrowed eyes as if ordering Basil to clean it up. “The queen mother had murdered numerous royal family members of the Chrichton family while disguising it as a contagious disease. She then placed the blame of communicating secretly with the Chrichton enemies onto the queen. What had happened here was a swift decision to execute her on the spot for the crimes she had committed.”
Basil’s whole body shivered in fear now. He was looking at the dead body of the queen mother as well as the king who had gone mad. There was no way he could stay calm.
“I will let everyone know of this truth.”
Then Basil finally came to his senses after hearing those words.
“Let everyone know? Who would they be?”
“Everyone in this world. I will tell them exactly the reason why the queen mother and the queen died.”
Basil’s jaw dropped in shock. “But if you do, then there would be a war!”
Although Arundel and Chrichton were close in terms of diplomatic relationship due to the alliance between them, there was no way that Chrichton would be calm after hearing that Arundel’s queen mother hada*sassinated numerous Chrichton royal family members. On top of that, the person who had recently become the crown prince was the queen’s cousin. There was no way he would not act after knowing her meaningless death.
“We’ve put in so much effort this whole time making sure that the actions that the queen mother had taken were under wraps and faded away as much as possible… You cannot tell them. If you do, then Arundel will fall.”
Basil knelt on the floor and begged with tears in his eyes. Basil had always been next to Igor’s side and watched just how much pain and suffering he had to endure in order to reach this point from the beginning. He had to endure all the contempt and hatred that the queen mother and other nobles had for him over a long period of time. He was now finally able to act properly as a king, yet was now going to ruin everything himself.
“Let it fall, then.” He stepped over the pool of blood that came from the queen mother’s body as he finished speaking. “I don’t care.”
