Chapter 264: The Tragic Truth
A tear dropped down from Leticia’s chin. Staring at Leticia, able to say anything, Rihannan spoke coldly, “And now, all the goodwill that I could afford to you is over. Tomorrow, your execution will proceed as planned.”
“I-I’m sorry, Rihannan!” Leticia hurriedly grabbed the iron bars and begged. “I was in the wrong. So please save me. I was simply jealous.”
She cried out while crying tears of despair.
“Seeing you standing on top of the stairs of a large mansion with numerous servants and maid under you made you look beautiful like a princess. But since you had kicked me out coldly when you had all that…”
“You had already taken everything that I had in the past. Beautiful dresses and jewels, you even monopolized my father’s love. Yet what did you do to me after?”
“But you said you still became the queen in the end in that past! It’s something I cannot have even if I put all my effort into it. If I was actually born into your position…”
“Then you would have been jealous of someone that’s in a better position than you. You’d continue to hate and be jealous over anyone that’s better than you. Am I wrong?”
Seeing Leticia lose her last strength to make any retort, Rihannan coldly snapped at her.
“My maid once said this to me. That in the world, there are always people that are no different than poisonous plants. Just like poisonous plants, even if they were to grow in a fertile, fresh ground, they would still grow as poisonous plants, and would never change their existence. That’s right, I now understand that there are some people that can never change their existence no matter what. I’m sure you’re one of such people.” Rihannan kept her closed for a moment and stayed silent before opening them again. “You, who are just like a poisonous plant, had ended up ruining yourself like this in the end.”
Leticia’s hands that were holding onto the iron bars fell off slowly as she lost her strength. Rihannan turned away from her completely. The king escorted Rihannan out of the jail with his hand behind her back, not even once giving a glance back at Leticia as they both left.
After they left, everything became dark as if all the lights had been snuffed out. Confined alone in the absolute darkness, Leticia sat on the floor.
Hot tears fell onto the floor and left marks. While crying out loud, Leticia remembered the memory she had when she was young.
Her mother always used to say this to Leticia back when she was a child.
“Your father is a person of a very high status. Right now we may be living far apart like this, but one day he will definitely come to be with us.”
After mother died and she went to an orphanage alone, she kept the locket necklace close to her, which was given from father to mother as a token of their love. She knew that the locket meant that eventually father will come to pick her up.
The kids in the orphanage was quite jealous of Leticia because of that. Astounding beauty at young age, a locket necklace that looks extremely expensive even with a single glance, and her claim that her father, who is of extremely high status, will one day come to pick her up. For the kids living at the orphanage, that sounded just like the novels and stories that they read over and over again from the selection of books in the orphanage, a girl who was everything they wished to be. Leticia also thought that way as well. That she is definitely an unique child. That she’s definitely different than those lowly peasant like children around her.
One day, her father arriving to pick her up in a four-wheeled carriage became reality and not just a fantasy for her. When all the kids in the orphanage realized that her biological father was one of not just a noble family but one of a duke, they all couldn’t help but stare in awe.
