Chapter 267: Daze and Execution
The punishment was carried out early next morning.
Even though it was early hours, numerous people gathered around. People gathered around to spit and swear at her, the one who killed her own father, her savior, and her own sister that was the queen, a truly most vile villainess anyone had ever seen. Leticia quietly heard mockery and condemnation to the very last moment as she was executed.
Although Rihannan had said that she will show no more consideration to Leticia, she made sure that the most skilled executioner will be the one who cuts Leticia’s neck. She had heard that there were rare cases where necks don’t get completely cut in one slash, leading to pain and anguish before they die.
Though the body of an executed criminal are often thrown away at an underground area where it would get mixed up with other numerous corpses, Leticia’s body was taken away separately. Then her body was taken to the place next to where her mother’s grave was and buried next to it.
After all that was done, Rihannan spent her days in a dazed state for a while. She didn’t leave outside often and would spend most of her days inside her room. But still, she put in effort into making sure that she would eat well and sleep well for her baby. She wanted to make sure that the child was born safely and taken care of more than anything else. As if in stead for the child that had died without ever being able to see the light in the past.
After Leticia’s death, it became hard to see Igor’s face around. Once Rihannan recovered fully, he became busy with taking care of businesses and problems that had been piling up while he was tending to Rihannan.
And so though she felt she had become just a bit closer to Igor, that distance grew far again. Actually, this was probably a more natural course of outcome. He had simply looked after her as much as he could since she was suddenly kidnapped, an unexpected event he never foresaw. Rihannan ended up relying on him too much in a moment when her heart was weak for him.
In the first place, even after telling the truth that everything that had happened was all due to misunderstanding in the past doesn’t mean that all that happened disappeared completely from both their minds. They had too much emotions and memories built up together to simply get over that problem right away. Perhaps she should now simply be happy with not hating him anymore.
While having those thoughts, Rihannan stroked her stomach and looked out the window to see snow falling outside. It was the very first snow falling in the season. Rihannan realized the fact that she had never lived long enough to see the snowfall in her previous life. It was the very first time she was staring outside with her own two eyes, while 18 years old.
As she was looking outside of the window with a feeling of a lump in her throat, Madam Sessly came close to her.
“My queen, his majesty has arrived.”
She saw Igor standing between the opened door. He made a faint smile as he met her gaze for the first time in a while. Rihannan also made the same faint smile back at him.
“It’s been a while, Igor. Welcome.”
The two people drank tea while sitting on a table, looking at each other while there was snow outside. On one side there was a sound of crackling from the fireplace on the wall. Though not many words were exchanged, the two still showed a quite relaxed kind of atmosphere between them. Not long after, Igor spoke first.
“An official letter had arrived from Chrichton.”
After Leticia was executed, Igor sent a strongly worded letter to Chrichton demanding explanation for the attempt ofa*sassination of the queen of Arundel. The reply to that mail had arrived.
“What did it say?”
“The crown prince denied all doubt and suspicion casted related to the case. He claimed that everything was something that the Duke had planned by themselves and that he had nothing to do with it.”
“Looks like it was just as you expected.”
Rihannan let out a light sigh.
“I knew he would never admit to it. He wouldn’t be able to cope with the storm that would conjure if he were to actually admit it after all.”
If the crown prince were to admit that he had attempteda*sassinations of an overseas country’s queen, the very existence of the royal family of Chrichton would be at stake. For them, the highest priority was to make sure that this incident is buried and never spoken about again. Amazingly, the exact opposite of what had happened in the past had taken place in this timeline.
