Chapter 270: Leaving the Palace
Ten days later, Rihannan left the palace. It all happened in a blink of an eye.
As soon as Rihannan had sent a letter asking about the safety of returning to Chrichton, Dimitris immediately sent a person to help her out. Between that period of time, the internal conflicts of Chrichton quickly became resolved.
The crown prince became placed under restriction with all his duties on hold, and a serious discussion about putting Prince Ivan as the next crown prince started to happen. As the situations turned out how he planned, Dimitris hurriedly pulled up Rihannan’s departure date even earlier. As if he couldn’t take another day away from Rihannan.
The farewell greeting between them also ended quick and easy that it was surprising. Madam Sessly didn’t even show herself around on the last day. Basil strongly opted to follow her to the port, but Rihannan declined him to do even that. Igor once again realized that once Rihannan had made up her mind, she wouldn’t let getting anything get in her way.
And so on the day of her departure, Igor watched Rihannan slowly leave the palace in her carriage as he stood within his home office, looking out the window.
His hand that was gripping the windowsill was holding on with a strong grip. Finally, after the carriage had fulled left the palace grounds and he could no longer see any more of it, he couldn’t help but let out a defeated sigh.
“Your majesty…”
From behind his back came Basil’s voice that was filled with worry. Igor just stood there vacantly staring outside of the window as he spoke.
“I wish to be alone, so stay out. And make sure no one comes into my room.”
Hearing his order, Basil nodded his head. Only after hearing the door fully close behind him and after a long time, Igor turned his gaze away from the window. He stared at the pile of doc*ments on the table, but he couldn’t focus at all. In the end, he put the doc*ments haphazardly away in a drawer. As he was doing so, his fingers caught a small sculpture inside of the drawer.
A very poorly sculpted boat model. Looking at the very last trace of the past that was left for him aside from all the things he had sent back to her, Igor bitterly remembered the past long ago.
“It’s a present. It’s something I treasure a lot as well.”
At that time, that child was smiling brightly. Seeing them peek from the corner of their eye hoping that they like the present looked lovely as well. However, Igor could no longer smiled along with that child-like when he had met with the child in the past.
After realizing that it was that child that his mother was planning to bring into the castle, he decided to make sure that he wouldn’t have any feelings for her. Therefore Igor tried his best to look stoic the whole time and not listen to anything the child ever said.
“They said that it’s the pirate ship that Dima will sail and travel around the world with in the future.”
However, before he realized it, he was listening to her with eager intent to the strange things she was saying. Seeing her say those kinds of things with sincerity in her voice made her look cute in his mind, and seeing her selfless ideal willing to give all of her most precious things to someone else was worrying to him as well.
And it was then when he had an interest in the sea for the first time as well. Before then, the world to him was just the continent that he had lived his whole life. As his mother only often talked about him needing to strengthen the nation to be able to take over the Trulz Empire in the future, he had thought that that was all he had to worry about.
Realizing that this child knew about a whole wild that he had no idea about, opened up his mind. Perhaps, even though he always wanted to leave his mother’s side, he was actually content with staying by his mother’s side.
