Chapter 280: Salerno Inn
“Sallerno inn…”
Rihannan blankly read the old sign placed at the top of the building, which was written in neat handwriting. As an inn, it definitely is a place where it provides lodge and meals for travelers passing by.
“It would take around two hours to reach Count Alleshin’s territory from here, but I think that would take too long. It would be faster if we took my horse, but I can’t let you do that with you pregnant… But if you do feel that spending a night here isn’t what you want, then I will try to find another way to…”
Igor mumbled as he kept checking Rihannan’s reaction, as he knew that the inn was quite old and worn down. He had experience of previously staying in here, but it’s different for Rihannan. As she had spent her whole life spending her days inside mansions and palaces, she may find it repulsive to stay at a place like this.
He didn’t want the news about them to spread far, so he wanted to make sure that the fact that they’ve come all the way down here from the royal palace a secret. While Igor was wondering whether he should consider Rihannan’s situation and just give that up, and go to the official’s residence and reveal themselves in order to be able to spend a night there, but then Rihannan pulled on the end of his clothing. Coughing awkwardly into her mouth for attention, Rihannan spoke.
“Ahem, it does seem a little worn down, but it looks like it’s being kept clean and well managed. Let’s just go inside.”
As Igor opened the entrance of the inn, cold biting winds rushed inside the warm interior of the inn. The people all sitting inside, enjoying their meal and talking boisterously, all turned their attention to the new person coming in as if it was all their habit. And then their gaze all locked and stayed onto them.
Even at a glance, it was easy to tell that the man and woman were people who had lived a haughty and high class life. With tidy appearance and expensive looking robe put on their backs, but the most striking thing was that they had beauty that’s not common around this part.
The handsomely tall man had firm body shape that didn’t match how sailors usually looked. With his jet black hair, sharp eyes and tightly shut lips, even just staring at his face you’d get the impression that he’s from a high class society. On the other hand, the woman who followed him in looked smaller than the average woman and even more frail. She had a foreign look of beauty on her face, and her lightly tinted eyes as well as her silver colored hair makes anyone who see her think that she’s either from the north or has blood mixed in with people from there.
The woman realized that their gazes were locked on to them, and hurriedly covered herself as much as she could with her robe. She then stuck right up behind the man’s back and lowered her head. Someone in the crowd laughed heartily out loud.
“Hoho! You both look like runaway lovers! Be careful not to get caught by your families then!”
Hearing his joke, the crowd agreed with laughter and clinking of their glasses. Among the boisterous waves of laughter from the crowd, one of the men asked the man who yelled a question.
“Wait, how do you know that? Do you have a method in identifying them?”
“It’s obvious seeing such high-class man and woman appearing this late at night in an inn of a port city with no servants’ on sight. Seeing them hold their hands so tightly makes me think that they’re not married as well. Since the only couples that do such things do such things are ones that are currently dating, not the married ones that have already done and been through everything.”
