Chapter 34

Zhou Deshun was the owner of Zhou’s Fruit Stall in Yiwu Business Center. He was in the store stocking up the fruits during the afternoon when he saw four boys walking over quickly.

Zhou Deshun thought that they were here for business, so he went up to them with a big smile on his face. “How may I help you?”

“I don’t want fruit, I want money,” said Chen Hansheng, the leader, directly with a smile.

Zhou Deshun then realized that the people in front of him were not friendly or potential customers. He calmly picked up a fruit knife and cut a watermelon into two halves, allowing the bright red juice to drip onto the ground as he asked, “What money do you want?”

Yang Shichao and Guo Shaoqiang looked at each other, their eyelids twitching.

Chen Hansheng picked up the small stool by the door and sat beside Zhou Deshun, only twenty centimeters away from the shiny fruit knife.

“My uncle is Feng Jihua from the stationery store across the street. I heard you owe him 3,500 yuan,” said Chen Hansheng as he picked up the cut watermelon, deliberately exposing his neck, and ate it in front of Zhou Deshun.

Zhou Deshun was surprised. When did Feng Jihua have such a grownup nephew? Then, he flew into a rage. In just half a year, 2,500 yuan had become 3,500 yuan. This bastard was even more ruthless than a loan shark.

In fact, it was not only Zhou Deshun. Yang Shichao and the others also knew that the amount Hansheng mentioned to Zhou Deshun was a thousand yuan higher than what Feng Jihua had told them. However, they thought that Chen Hansheng was deliberately overcharging the handling fee of a thousand yuan, so they did not say anything.

Compared to Feng Jihua, Chen Hansheng was more willing to deal with Zhou Deshun because Feng Jihua’s sponsorship was on the line. Chen Hansheng didn’t want to be so ruthless with Zhou Deshun, but the latter seemed pretty easy to deal with so Hansheng didn’t hold back.

“Young man, let me tell you, I don’t owe your uncle 3,500 yuan,” said Zhou Deshun seriously.

After Chen Hansheng finished eating the watermelon, he casually used the bottom of his shirt to wipe his mouth before saying, “I honestly don’t care. That was what my uncle told me so here I am to ask for it.”

The other students slowly gathered in front of Zhou’s Fruit Shop.

“Who are they?” asked Zhou Deshun.

They were quite obviously university students. “These are my university mates. If you don’t hand over the 3,500 yuan to me, they will be moving out fruits until the amount is worth 3,500 yuan.”

“How dare you!”

Zhou Deshun knocked the fruit knife against a surface with a loud clang. “F*cking Feng Jihua, he deliberately raised the debt from 2,500 yuan to 3,500 yuan. He even let a group of university students harass my business. Just you wait!”

Zhou Deshun walked to the small warehouse at the back. After a brief moment of rummaging, Zhou Deshun took out a crumpled loan slip and held it in front of Chen Hansheng’s face. “Look carefully. Doesn’t it say 2,500 yuan? Your wicked uncle is lying to you!”

Chen Hansheng took the loan slip and clearly read that Zhou Deshun had borrowed 2,500 yuan from Feng Jihua due to personal financial constraints and that the former promised to return it within a month.

Zhou Deshun waited for Chen Hansheng to finish reading it before he said, “Well?”

“Alright.” Chen Hansheng nodded.

“Return the loan slip to me,” said Zhou Deshun as he reached out.

Chen Hansheng smiled and folded the loan slip before putting it into his pocket. “I heard it wrong just now. Uncle actually said that it was 2,500 yuan. Now that the evidence and witnesses are all here, please return the money, Mr. Zhou.”

Zhou Deshun was dumbstruck for a long time. It was not easy for him to realize that this person was swindling him away from his loan slip.

“You dare to swindle me? I wish Feng Jihua and his nephews a horrendous death!”

“Whatever. Anyway, I’m not very familiar with Mr. Feng.”

Back at the stationery store, Feng Jihua was smiling as if a flower had bloomed on his face as he counted the twenty-five pieces of one-hundred-yuan notes on his counter.

“I really didn’t expect to get my money back. I was so close to giving up on it.”

Feng Jihua was about to sweep the money into his cash register when Chen Hansheng pressed down on the stacks with his lighter.

“Student, what are you doing?” asked Feng Jihua as he looked up at Chen Hansheng.

“Nothing much. I’m just reminding Mr. Feng that this is my money.” Chen Hansheng laughed.

“What are you talking about? Look, here. You can take five hundred yuan as a bonus, but taking all of it would be quite ridiculous, wouldn’t it?” Feng Jihua’s face started to turn darker.

They had just established an amicable relationship but it broke apart just as quickly due to money. Unfortunately for Feng Jihua, Chen Hansheng had no intentions to be reasonable at the moment.

Zhu Chenglong also sneered. “Mr. Feng, have you forgotten what you said just now? You said that the money will go to whoever asks for the debt back.”

“What…”

How was Feng Jihua expected to know that Chen Hansheng would be able to get the money back from Zhou Deshun? He pushed up his glasses and smiled sheepishly. “It was just a passing comment.”

“You can say whatever you want, but I took it seriously.”

Chen Hansheng put the 2,500 yuan into his pocket and lit a cigarette in his mouth. Feng Jihua gulped, but there was nothing he could do.

“Hold on. Deputy Officer Zhou, didn’t you get a five-hundred-yuan sponsorship just now?”

Zuo Xiaoli and Zhou Xiao had intended to leave quietly. Who would have thought that Chen Hansheng was so cunning and tenacious that he was not willing to let the duo go? Especially not after he had realized that the two had schemed against him.

“How about this? I’ll sponsor 501 yuan for the new student party, just to pressure Deputy Officer Zhou.” Chen Hansheng took out five one-hundred-yuan notes and borrowed a one yuan coin from Li Zhennan before handing them to Qi Wei.

Qi Wei was dumbfounded. She did not know whether to accept or reject the money.

“What? Is it not enough?” asked Chen Hansheng with a smile.

Qi Wei gritted her teeth and pretended not to see the despair in Zuo Xiaoli’s eyes. She directly accepted the 501 yuan.

“Yes!” Guo Shaoqiang shouted loudly, and the surrounding freshmen began to cheer. They didn’t know why exactly, but they felt that this was a victory to be celebrated by everyone.

As if it wasn’t chaotic enough, Yang Shichao shouted at the backs of Zuo Xiaoli and Zhou Xiao, “Didn’t we agree that Zhou Xiao would step down and hand over the deputy officer role to Chen Hansheng? Why are you guys so silent now?”

“Forget it. He won’t give it up,” said Chen Hansheng indifferently.

Although Zhou Xiao had sworn to do so in front of so many people, his thick skin and support from Zuo Xiaoli would not allow him to easily live up to his word.

“Let’s drink tonight, my treat!”

Chen Hansheng called all the students present who had come to the business center to support him. He had just shown them the versatility of his abilities as the class president of Public Administration Class 2.

Yang Shichao and the others were drinking and cursing at the same time, all saying that Zhou Xiao was shameless and a sore loser. Zhu Chenglong even specifically asked, “How do we get Zhou Xiao to quit the outreach section obediently?”

Chen Hansheng was drinking at the time and did not think too deeply about it. He simply answered, “He would have to fall so hard to the ground that he could no longer pick himself back up. The impact of this incident in the afternoon is not enough.”

Zhu Chenglong looked at Chen Hansheng and continued drinking without saying anything.

In the evening, Chen Hansheng was playing cards with someone when Guo Shaoqiang suddenly ran in with panic and said, “Not good. That son of a b*tch Zhu Chenglong beat up Zhou Xiao.”
