Possession (6)

Just like when Hamin’s class was revealed, everyone held their breath at the light they hadn’t seen before. Amidst the silence, the teacher, who was moved to tears, announced Haewoon’s class tearfully.

“Buffer!”

“Wow!”

“Kang Haewoon, I love you!”

As soon as his class was announced, people in the auditorium cheered. Among the students cheering happily were some male students who confessed their love to Haewoon, so I tried to ignore them and recall what I read in the blog post.

Buffers and healers were said to be rare, but looking at the current situation, I could reasonably guess how rare they were. He wasn’t even determined as a dual-class, but it seemed like a very valuable class since it was to the point where people were impressed by this one class.

Even Haewoon, who smiled brightly, went down, leaving the stage empty. All the students who went up on stage had finally gone down, so it was time for another five students to be called again.

Somehow, I felt nervous and held on to the strap of my backpack, staring at the teacher calling the student by name. Unfortunately, or fortunately, my name wasn’t called. After one turn passed safely, I exhaled a sigh of relief, but when I saw the 30th student get depressed after being judged for being part of the reinforcement class, I became nervous again.

But neither the next time nor the following time was Sihyun called up. There seemed to be less than 100 students in the auditorium, but when my name wasn’t called even after the 80th student, I gradually grew anxious and looked at the teacher’s mouth. The 90th student was just called up. Then the 91st, and eventually the 95th. At this point, I had somewhat expected that I might have been omitted from the class list, before the teacher said, “Lastly…”

The words got taken out of my mouth.

“Kang Sihyun!”

It wasn’t until the 96th time when my name was called. I frowned slightly as I suddenly received the gazes of 95 people. My steps towards the stage were not light. The fact that I was not happy even after waiting for my name to be called for a long time just proved how burdensome my situation was, especially since I was towards the end.

Dozens of eyes clung to me as I moved step by step. Since I was the last one, none of the students were distracted by the tension since they already knew what their class was. 95 people looked straight at me.

And among them was one a ferocious gaze.

If I turned around, I’d die. If I accidentally turned my head and meet Dawoon’s eyes, I wouldn’t be able to survive. I pressed my lips.

I felt like throwing up.

I had never received so much attention at once in my life.

I scratched my neck as I walked. The principal, who smiled kindly, led me in front of the tester.

The black tester I had been looking at from a distance was finally right in front of me. I took a deep breath as the tester spun around making sounds, before slowly reaching out to put my hand on the tester.

‘Please, strength…’

A prosecutor would be good. An archer would also be good. Whatever it was, as long as it wasn’t something that doesn’t stand out. As I prayed and put my hand on it, the tester stopped moving after spinning several times and making a whirring sound.

It’s time.

At this point, a light would always flash, so it was the moment where I closed my eyes and prayed for green or yellow.

“…”

“Teacher?”

“This can’t be…”

When I called the teacher in a low voice, the teacher noticed that the tester was acting strange and took it from my hand. Holding the tester as if turning the power off and on, the teacher pressed the switch below, smiled kindly and put the tester back in front of me.

“It should work now.”

“Right.”

I nodded and raised my hand because of the error. The tester, which was spinning, stopped working the same way as before and stopped emitting light. It was the same situation as before.

When I looked up because of how strange it was acting, the teacher narrowed the distance between their eyebrows and frowned. The result didn’t change even when I was asked to do it again. The teacher’s expression hardened at the third attempt.

“What’s wrong?”

After a long time and not announcing the results, the principal questioned the teacher. The teacher in charge, who looked troubled while stroking his chin, took another tester out of the box next to the podium.

The teacher put the new tester on the table after starting it, looking at the tester with a grim expression.

“Would you like to try again?”

In response to the teacher’s question, I cautiously placed my hand on the tester.

Whir, whir.

Likewise, the tester that had been spinning a few times, ended up just like before. The teacher’s face hardened once again. Noticing something strange, I chewed the flesh inside my mouth at the ominous feeling.

“Why are you like this? Is something wrong?”

When the principal came to my side and asked, the teacher in charge, who was staring at the tester with persistent eyes, opened his mouth as if possessed.

“I can’t see…”

“Huh?”

“I can’t see the result of Kang Sihyun’s class.”

“…”

With a cry, the room became quiet. I became the center of attention, opening my mouth, puzzled. My embarrassed blue eyes met the teacher’s gaze.

It was embarrassing.

I just wished for peace.

I didn’t want to be incompetent.
