Possession (7)

I quickly turned my head. Maybe something went wrong because I possessed Kang Sihyun’s body. There was no way that the sub-male lead in an Inso was incompetent. As expected, if there was a problem, it had to be with Yoo Sihyun, so I frowned and looked at the teacher.

“Do you know why it’s not working?”

“Normally, it happens if you are incompetent or if you’re part of a new class that hasn’t been registered with the tester…”

‘Incompetent…’

Feeling my heart drop at the word, I stared at the tester, feeling sick. I paled at the thought. I must have looked so pitiful.

What happens if you’re incompetent? Should I just go back home? Would it be better? Would they chew me out and enjoy gossiping about me? I entered a school that seemed to only admit Awakened people but how could I be incompetent? What if I get dragged to a research institution or something?

I was 100% convinced that the tester was being unresponsive because I possessed Sihyun. I pressed my lips together, with the teacher smiling kindly and patting me on the back.

“Don’t worry too much.  There has never been a case where an Awakened mark disappears before imprinting. Could you tell me where the Awakened was engraved?”

“Awakened mark?”

“Yes, like a pattern. Each person has a different mark.”

“…”

I had never seen anything like that. Kang Sihyun’s body was clean and pure, let alone any patterns. While washing, I had never seen anything suspicious, so I looked at my wrist with a stiff expression. The teacher said it usually appears on the back of the hand or wrist, but Sihyun’s wrist aws clean.

Am I really incompetent?

Obviously, the only variable was that I possessed Sihyun. I felt a bit guilty since it felt like I had ruined Kang Sihyun’s life, who had been fine. I was about to shake my head but then heard a familiar voice.

“It’s on the back of his neck. It’s hard to see, so he can’t check it by himself.”

“…”

It was Dawoon. I looked to where the voice came from and met her brown eyes. Dawoon’s eyes were so intense that it could kill me. She turned her head to the short-haired girl next to her, who tutted and briefly touched her arm.

Pat, pat, pat. The girl next to her patted her, as if to comfort her. No, rather than placating, it felt like she was saying, ‘Just let it slide…’

“I see…”

Once it was said that it was on the back of my neck, I turned my back to the teacher with a sense of bewilderment and lifted my hair, which was half-covering my neck. The teacher confirmed the clear blue mark on the nape of Sihyun’s neck and nodded.

“There is a mark.”

“Then…”

This time, I felt nervous in a different way.

When I looked at the teacher with shaky eyes, the teacher, who let out a breathy laughter, perhaps out of relief, patted my shoulder.

“Congratulations, Sihyun. It’s a new class.”

“Ah…”

I wasn’t happy at all. As I looked at the teacher, a little dissatisfied, the teacher smiled kindly and opened his mouth to the 95 students.

He was announcing it.

“It’s a new class!”

“Wow!”

After the long, thick silence and tension, cheers erupted more than ever. Amidst the ear-splitting cheers, a lower class such as reinforcement might come out, but a higher class like a healer or a dual-class might also come out, so they listened to the teacher.

I pursed my lips.

A new class. It would be nice if there was a trivial class like the ability to not trip, but there was no way that the sub-male lead of an Inso would have such a dumb ability. It’s a new class. Isn’t it almost at the same level as the male lead?

Feeling the urge to stop feeling guilty over Kang Sihyun, I fiddled with the innocent bag strap, reciting to myself a little bit of what I had already thought over and over again.

Things like, maybe I didn’t hear properly.

“Congratulations, Sihyun!”

“Hey, Kang Sihyun! You know me, right? Congratulations!”

I wanted to beat up all the teachers and students who congratulated and smiled at me, not knowing I was annoyed. As I looked down, I suddenly met Lee Hanim, who was at the bottom of the stage.

I couldn’t tell if he was smiling or laughing, but he just stared at me with his dark purple eyes. He raised the corners of his mouth and slowly opened his mouth.

I tilted my head to Hanim, who mouthed something. I didn’t know what he said, so I blinked. I could already feel a fierce gaze.

Once I got down, I shook my head and groaned.

It was a total mess.

It felt like someone sprayed ink onto my carefully painted canvas.

After the class test, which got noisy and embarrassing in many ways, teachers began to hand out two rings to students. The principal opened her mouth at the podium. I looked at the ring, confused, thinking if this was an entrance gift.
