Beta reader: My_Own_Worst_NPC

=============================================================

It’s been 15 days since Leanne left the island and the Imperial Survey Team has yet to arrive.

Well, since they supposedly are coming by boat, it can’t be helped that they’re taking so long; it’s not like they’re riding a wyvern and flying in the sky.

So I spent my days leisurely developing the island by using creation magic, and thanks to that, my level has increased a lot.

####

Creation Magic Lv.9

Food Production : Lv.5 Food creation time reduced by 9%

Tools Production : Lv.5 Tool creation time reduced by 9%

Weapon Production : Lv.2 Weapon creation time reduced by 3%

Not only have I increased my Creation Magic level to 9, I have also increased the level of Material Creation and decreased Golem Production time; it’s the result of increasing the volume of construction materials and the number of worker golems providing infrastructure development.

The amount of golem I have now is five Iwaos, four Gokus, and two Silvers.

Also, I can now create a new, hound-type golem.

####

Item Production:Metal Golem Dog-type(small)(Lv.1)

Category:Golem production (Lv.5)

MP Consumption 320

Explanation:A hound-type metal golem. A golem that specializes in hunting. It pounces on its prey with its agile movements and sharp fangs. Also useful as a guard dog.

Production time:49 hours

I quickly made the golem as soon as I had enough MP to create it.

In terms of combat power, it surpasses the other three. Having this golem is like killing two birds with one stone; not only can it act as a bodyguard, it can also catch prey.  Its appearance is like a German Shepherd made of metal.

I think this golem is going to be very useful.

Although…  from the utility perspective, even if it’s a good fighter, it couldn’t do much work at all. At best, he could only dig a small hole with his paws. Since it’s like a dog, I named it Wonder. [2] I’ve also made two of them since I want to have at least one always readily available by my side.

As for my Medicine Production skill, since I’ve raised it to Lv 2, I’m now able to make hematopoietic medicine [3] and pain killers.

As for the progress of my fields: I was able to successfully plant the potatoes; they’re growing well and will soon be ready for harvest. The eggplants, cucumbers, and green peppers are also starting to show results. The peppers, in particulars, were growing fast; I’ve already harvested a few, and they taste good. Too bad the tomatoes withered away when exposed to rain. I don’t think they’re growing well, maybe because the land isn’t good for cultivating them.

“Woof! Woof!”

I heard the faint barking of Wonder No.1, who was out hunting. Unlike the other types, the Wonder type could make sound, although only barking and not human-like conversation. [4] The barking was probably meant to intimidate enemies or coordinate with other golems.

“I wonder what happened?”

I instructed Wonder No. 1 to hunt deer and goats, but maybe he stumbled upon a wild boar. I told Wonder No. 2 and the three Gokus to follow me and jumped on Silver No.1’s back.

I’m now pretty confident in my riding skill.

“Wonder No. 2, go ahead and help Wonder No. 1!”

No. 2 rushed off after hearing the order, and the rest of us hurried after it.

“Grrrrrrrrr!”

“Woof!”

The two Wonders’ threatening growls echoed through the forest. No way, did a large monster appear? I brought my spear with me, but I don’t think I’d be much use in a fight. In the event a large monster did appear I’d just have to run away while riding Silver.

When we arrived, the two Wonders were locked in battle with one goat.

…well, it was a large goat.

There was another goat lying beside it, and by the look of it, that one had already died. Judging by its bleeding throat, Wonder No. 1 must have taken it down.

The larger goat was still fighting; it was bleeding from its right hind leg, but that didn’t stop it from fighting back, waving its horns at the Wonders as hard as it could. It had horns, but it appeared to be a female, considering the swollen udders that jiggled underneath it as it moved.

I tried to look for the baby goat nearby, but it seemed to have already run away. This female goat probably fought with Wonder to help her young escape.

“Wonder, don’t kill it!”

I didn’t want to kill it, but not because I feel bad for it.

“Goku, take this and capture the goat”. I handed some rope to the three Gokus and moved to observe the situation from a higher place.

The Wonders and Gokus used their numbers to chase the goat around. Eventually, the goat could barely keep moving, and Goku No. 2 jumped on its back and tied a rope around its neck. Strangely enough, once the rope was secure, the goat became docile.

“Good, good, now hold down its legs so it can’t thrash around.”

From my storage bag, I took out the wound medicine and bandages that I was always carry around. The goat would make a perfect test subject for my experiment.

I applied the medicine to its wounded leg and bandaged it up. Since the goat has no magic power, I don’t think the medicine will be as effective as if it was used on human, but I still think it would produce some kind of healing effect.

While the goat was being treated, it just meekly laid still. It wasn’t a cute animal, but its fur was pure white and that was rather endearing.

“I’m going to name you Koyuki. How is your leg, can you walk now?”

When I pulled the rope, the goat started to walk obediently, favoring its injured leg.

“It looks like you’re alright. Don’t overdo it and let’s just slowly return to the cave.”

I left Koyuki in one of the Goku’s hand and returned to the rockery by walking one step in front of the others.

After returning to the cave, I called back the Iwaos who were working on road preparation, and had them drive stakes in designated places so we could set up a fence for Koyuki’s pen. I made the Iwaos do the heavy work, while having the Gokus perform the more refined tasks, like assembling the slats. The foundation work for Koyuki’s would be completed that day.

I guess we’ll need a golem to take care of the animals too…

Since the three Gokus worked mainly in the field, they’re already at full capacity, I guess it’d be better to create two more of them before the survey team arrived. Now that we had access to goat’s meat & milk, and the vegetables in the field were just about ready to harvest, I was feeling pretty confident about our food situation going forward.

Yes, let’s schedule next week as Golem Strengthening Week. [5]

—————————————————————————————-

Since we have Koyuki, our food situation has improved dramatically. I can even get milk regularly, and in quantity that’s more than I can drink by myself.

Milking was fun at first, but I quickly got bored of it. After the first day it was Goku No.3’s job to milk Koyuki. Now, if I was milking Chris or Cecily, I would never get bored…

The collected milk was then pasteurized and submerged in the river in an airtight container, but if wasn’t consumed quickly it would still spoil, so I started using magic to turn it into cheese or other cooking ingredients. That said, there’s still a whole lot of it left. To better preserve it, I also boiled it down with sugar to make condensed milk, which is useful for making drinks and shaved ice.

During Golem Strengthening Week, the number of Gokus was further increased, and now there are six of them. I find them most versatile for working due to their dexterity.

—————————————————————————————-

One day, after lunch, I was having iced café au lait made by mixing brewed coffee with goat’s milk. The drink was well chilled by the ice I’ve made with my creation magic.

Monte Chris Island is hot, so ice is in high demand and I make it frequently. Thanks to this, my level of ice production has been raised to 3. This is the highest level for an individual category after bread (level 5) and rice (level 4), and the time required to make ice is decreasing as the level of ice production increases. [6]

Making bread now only cost 2 MP, and the time required to make it has decreased by 25%. If I include the reduced time modifier from Food Production Category, the production time is reduced by 34%, which means bread that used to take an hour to make can now be made in less than 40 minutes.

Alright, let’s keep it going like this!

The strong rays of tropical sun are piercing between the palm leaves. On a hot afternoon like this, there’s nothing I can do but laze around.

I was lying on a wooden reclining chair while drinking iced café au lait. It was sweetened with condensed milk and really delicious. I was enjoying the atmosphere of my little tropical resort while having Goku No. 4 fan me with a large palm leaf, when I heard Wonder’s barking voice coming from somewhere.

“Woof! Woof!”

Did it find more prey? I was sure I’d forbidden them from hunting to protect the food supply…

Hmm…? The voice sounds like it’s coming from the shore…

*Gasp* Could it be the survey team has arrived?

=============================================================

1 Unlike in previous chapters, the information of accumulated experience is no longer shown. Well, not that it’s important anyway.

2 Pretty sure it’s based on a dog character of a series, but I’m not sure which one.

3 Hematopoietic medications : medicine used to increase the production of erythrocytes or red blood cells, leukocytes or white blood cells, and platelets. Basically an anti-anemia medicine.

4  Pretty sure it’s gonna feel creepy if the dog-type can talk like human. But then again, maybe Shirou is that desperate for human interaction.

5 He means allocating the time to make new golems.

6 Referring back to chapter 16, he also mentioned about individual level of bread production. It seems that within the Creative Magic System there’s also the level of Individual Production for each item made, though never explicitly written. The reasoning probably if the level of proficiency for every item Shirou has ever made is to be shown, the list would be too long.
