Hearing his words, the crowd laughed and jeered at Donovan.
This was like adding an insult to injury for Donovan.
Fire! Donovan was set ablaze once again by Roy Badulf Baldwin. This time, it was as if he was being flayed. His skin and face turned red like a ripe tomato, and his body trembled like a belly dancer.
Before Donovan could come up with a reply, Alfonso intervened, “Enough! I ask you two to stop arguing. Those who fail to comply will be asked to leave. And they will be banned from entering the auction house in the future.”
Donovan didn’t bite nor bid again. Roy won the two twins for more than twice their starting price.
The cage was put in a different room. The twins were brought away to be cleaned and freshened. Roy would be able to take them away after the auction.
In the changing room…
“Is this good for us or bad?” Maya asked.
Aydin replied, “Only time will tell.”
In private box #3…
“Investigate who it is and report to me,” Donovan said to his sworn knight.
“Sorry, but I can not. “He” strictly forbade us from starting trouble in the County.”
This was not their home territory. If it were, they would already aim for his life. This was the Baldwin County. They had to play by their rules. And if they didn’t, they would be judged in its court. And if their crimes were too severe, getting killed on the spot was a possibility!
…
On the stage…
Alfonso said, “This is the second item. It is a set of 120 costumes. 116 pieces are made of snow wolves. They are unique to the north as only the climate here can sustain them. The main four pieces are made of Winter Wolf and the Legendary Luna Wolf. It can become the uniform of your guard. Just imagine 120 mighty warriors, with their shining white capes fluttering in the wind, following behind you! The starting price is 50000 gold coins. A minimum increment of 5000 gold coins is set this time.”
“80000!”
“100000!”
“300000!”
Someone bid 300k for it in a calm, feminine voice. It either meant that this much was nothing for her. Or she was bluffing and couldn’t bet anymore.
…
“This voice… I am familiar with it.” Roy felt like he had heard her voice before, and although it was sitting in his mind somewhere, he couldn’t picture the person.
Arlo turned to him and raised his eyebrow, “You know Bernice?”
“Bernice. So that’s her name.”
Hearing the name that was similar to that tailor’s shop, Roy remembered who she was and where he had met her.
He glanced at Arlo and said, “Not really.”
“She’s the future wife of your brother.” Arlo broke the news to him.
“Which one?” Roy asked.
Arlo replied, “Arthur.”
“Then… when’s the big wedding?” Roy said, “I don’t mind attending it since it’s him.”
If the person getting married was Noah, he wouldn’t have attended the marriage. And if he had gone there, it would be to break the couple up and cause mayhem at the marriage site.
…
“Fuck, you can have them!”
After seeing its price rise to more than their life worth of savings, most people gave up.
“It’s already 300000. Any more bids?” Alfonso questioned as his gaze swept past the crowd.
Inside private box #1
A young man in black clothes could be seen sitting on a chair. Behind him stood a guard. And on his right laid a man who was eating an apple and whose upper body was naked.
“Mark, advise me. Should I stop or continue?” The young man asked.
“That’s up to you.” That’s what was expected of the half-naked man. He was the youth’s advisor. But he was also eccentric.
“Stop eating the apple and be more clear.” The black-clothed youth said, “I’ll treat you to dinner as a reward.”
Mark sat up and pointed at him, “It’s a known fact that the Heavenly Northern Duke loves to own products that only a few can hold. 118 out of those 120 costumes aren’t worth much, but the last two can help you establish a connection with him. Now, how much do you think you should waste to gain a chance to meet him?”
Calvin: “Thanks.”
“300000 going once!”
An instant after Alfonso said those words, Calvin’s voice rang out.
“350000!”
“400000!” Instantly, Bernice outbid him.
“50,0000!”
Bernice yawned, “This is becoming long-winded. Should I end it in one strike?”
Whoever was against her in the bidding war didn’t know who she was. She was the daughter of Achlys. Only a few could compare to her status in the empire. How high was it? Her family was tightly connected to the Northern Duke, who Calvin wanted to establish a connection with. Heck, she could just go to the duke’s house unannounced and still be welcomed inside.
Old Blake nodded, “That sounds rather nice.”
Bernice Achlys, without her eyes blinking, quoted: “1000000!”
Calvin and the onlookers’ mouths widened so much that their jaws threatened to drop to touch the ground. Was that lady the owner of a gold mine? Who else could afford to throw away so much for merely 120 costumes? She dropped a bomb on them for paying 1 million for such costumes. Crazy! She was crazy!! Betting with a crazy person was not fun!!! With that much, one could even easily buy a rank-3 runic item!!!!
With no one willing to compare their wealth with her, the bidding war came to an end.
Half a minute passed without anyone quoting a higher price, and thus, Alfonso announced her as the winner of these items.
This also signified that Roy had become a millionaire!
But he was to become richer than that today!
The last item to be put up for auction would be the Parasite Killer. Most have come for it or were sent by someone infected with an insect or a parasite to obtain it using their family’s entire wealth. However, Bernice was planning to use her fortune to get it.
Roy was bound to reach closer to a multi-millionaire by tonight!
