Delicious food could make a person feel relaxed, especially after experiencing the agony of pregnancy reactions. An Wuyang almost let down his guard and ate his fill with gratitude after being able to eat food and stew that caused no violent churns in his stomach.
It took him a while to notice that the man sitting across from him was simply watching him.
There were so many dishes on the table that it would take two or three people to finish them all, let alone one person.
An Wuyang blurted out, “Mister Huo, aren’t you hungry?”
Huo Yunchuan moved his eyes nonchalantly in response to the young man’s puzzled gaze. Using both of his hands, he picked up the chopsticks on the table and ate efficiently without losing grace.
Upon seeing this, An Wuyang shut his mouth and bowed his head to eat in silence.
Without noticing, he finished a bowl full of rice and half a cup of soup in front of him.
“Mister Huo, I’m done. Please take your time.” An Wuyang laid down his chopsticks.
Huo Yunchuan gave him a sidelong glance but remained silent. He just sped up his eating motion a bit, and soon afterward put down his used chopsticks. His hands raised a table napkin to wipe his mouth and wiped his hands clean just as smoothly.
“Are you really full?” After scrutinizing the boy’s figure for a while, he asked.
An Wuyang nodded his head in haste. “Really full.” ‘Although I only ate a bowl of rice, I still consumed lots of dishes today.’
“You may eat some fruit.” Huo Yunchuan glimpsed at the fruit plate.
An Wuyang followed the other’s line of sight and found the plate to be on his right side.
There were fresh and ripened cherries, mangosteen, and blueberries as well.
An Wuyang plopped two cherries and two blueberries in his mouth and did not dare consume more.
The fruits in the hotel were all imported fruits and which held a sizable difference from those sold in the local market. The taste and texture were absolutely divine.
Once An Wuyang found himself extremely satisfied with the food, he felt a bit embarrassed.
When he noticed the ever lingering eyes of the other party, which he was uncertain whether it was intentional, An Wuyang lowered his eyes and feigned nonchalance. His hand worked on picking and stuffing the last blueberry into his mouth instead.
Huo Yunchuan’s voice did not even falter as he said, “Is there anything uncomfortable?”
An Wuyang shook his head. “No.”
‘It’s just that I feel drowsy when I’m full. And sitting here in this chair makes me comfortable and dislikes moving.’
Huo Yunchuan paused and asked someone to come in for the bill.
He then took a sip of water, stood up, and said, “Go to the hospital.”
An Wuyang, whose eyes were on the verge of closing, opened his eyes swiftly. He nodded, stood up, and as quietly as possible, moved his hands and feet on the edge of the chair.
He wanted to wait for Huo Yunchuan to walk out the door first and follow him, but the man just stood there waiting, as if letting him leave first.
An Wuyang was stunned and, with no better option, walked ahead.
Even if his eyes could not travel and see the situation behind him, he could still sense a burning, cautious gaze locked on him.
It felt like…. ‘Is he afraid I can’t walk well?’
An Wuyang walked into the elevator with his face flushed, thinking that Huo Yunchuan seemed a bit too much. Although he was pregnant, he was still entirely capable of walking without staggering.
There were many people in the elevator at this point.
Huo Yunchuan entered first. It was unknown if he consciously or unconsciously separated the people around him like a tide parting on his sides, letting An Wuyang stand in front of him.
It was about 11:40 in the morning. The sun was drenching sunlight everywhere, and the temperature was a bit higher.
“Stand here and wait for me.” An Wuyang heard the man beside him speak. By the time he turned his head, An Wuyang only caught sight of a rushing figure advancing through the noon heat.
He failed to understand what Huo Yunchuan meant with his words, but soon became aware when he saw the other person decelerating the car before him.
“…” Uncomfortably understood.
Huo Yunchuan got out of the driver’s seat and opened the rear door for An Wuyang.
Anyone with a bit of social experience knew that when there were only two people in the car, it would be disrespectful for the other person to sit in the rear seats.
But the back row was safer.
When Hu Yunchuan settled An Wuyang in, he returned to the driver’s seat. He put on a Bluetooth earpiece, dialed Jiang Shaofei’s mobile number, and drove on the road.
“Hello, Yunchuan?” Jiang Shaofei could not believe his eyes and ears when he received a call from Huo Yunchuan.
The contact between them was not dense at ordinary times. If one wanted to or if time called for it, they contacted each other for a catch-up.
Hu Yunchuan said, “Shaofei, are you in the hospital?” As he talked to his friend, he peeked into the back row through the rearview mirror at the same time.
When there was nothing that screamed amiss, he moved on with relief and controlled the speed of being around 40 in passing.
“Yes. What’s the matter?” Jiang Shaofei was currently making rounds in the hospital, donning on a pristine white lab coat and a pair of gold-rimmed spectacles perched on his nose bridge. A far cry image from when An Wuyang saw him for the first time.
This was a picture of Jiang Shaofei. As a successor to a chaebol with tens of billions of wealth, his profession was a doctor.
Without warming up the other, Huo Yunchuan blurted, “I will bring over for a pregnancy test now. You help arrange it.”
“Pfft—” Jiang Shaofei, who was having his first drink during his break, sprayed a mouthful of water, ruining a workday log on the desktop. “Fuck…” A string of curses was heard over the phone. “Couldn’t you give me a head start so I could mentally prepare myself!”
The most steadfast diamond bachelor among the four of them suddenly announced that he was going to be a father, so Jiang Shaofei snapped his head up to see if it was raining red.
“Shut up. Make arrangements immediately.” Huo Yunchuan’s voice even submerged a few degrees down. “It better be operated by you. I can’t trust others.”
Jiang Shaofei was taken aback for a moment and misunderstood. “It’s not about examining the pregnancy, but how big the matter is.” Any hospital could find out the results of an individual’s condition as they please, and the doctor would look at the results.
“That’s it. Wait until I arrive.” Huo Yunchuan hung up the call.
Glancing at the rearview mirror again, he noticed the young man sitting in the back seat had his eyes shut. He seemed asleep.
Huo Yunchuan gritted his teeth and reduced the speed to 30 right away.
This was probably the slowest car he had driven in the past ten years, and not one of them was bought intended for situations such as this.
It was normal for people to feel drowsy when they were full. Let alone that the circumstances right now were different. It could even be said that sitting inside a good air-conditioned and steady pace car helped An Wuyang doze off in mere seconds.
Later, as they reached their destination, the man on the driver’s seat turned his head back and looked at the sleeping person in the back row, whose faint snores were heightened inside the car. Huo Yunchuan felt quite helpless in the face of this crisis.
After mulling over options, Huo Yunchuan opened the door of the car, adopted a look of ‘I am super fierce,’ and woke the opponent like the harsh winter season.
“Get up, we’re here.”
‘This volume, ruthless? Seriously?’
After repeating for the Nth time, the opponent opened his eyes at last.
“If you want to sleep that much, go to bed after the check,” said Huo Yunchuan with his eyes narrowed as he stood by the door.
“Sorry, I fell asleep.” An Wuyang rubbed his eyes and scrambled out of the car as fast as he could.
After being offered a hand, he was astonished. “Thank you.”
He also saw the other party closing the car door for him. This kind of consideration made him at a loss because he had never received such meticulous care from anyone. Not even those he knew.
They were at the entrance of the hospital.
A family’s tertiary hospital.
Still feeling sleepy and dazed, Huo Yunchuan placed a hand on his arm and led them into the hospital.
There was no need for him to go through the registration process, as An Wuyang was taken directly to Jiang Shaofei’s office.
“Get up.” Huo Yunchuan strode to his close childhood friend whom he shared snots and kicked his chair. He said that because there were no empty chairs around for An Wuyang to sit on.
Jiang Shaofei lifted his head and was bewildered when he saw An Wuyang. ‘Ah, wasn’t this the little brother Huo Yunchuan’s desperately flirting, almost to the point of madness, with that night?’
‘I haven’t heard of him since that night, so I didn’t expect to meet him again today.’
“I wonder why did you get in touch again?” He teased Huo Yunchuan.
“Can’t you stand up?” Huo Yunchuan’s patience had been stretched too thin and shoved Jiang Shaofei away himself, pulling the chair for the person beside him to sit down.
This wave of operation put An Wuyang in an awkward dilemma. At the same time, he looked at Jiang Shaofei in surprise. The person seemed to not differ from his own impression based on their first meeting. Who would have thought he was actually a doctor?
“What’s this all about?” Jiang Shaofei stood beside him, perplexed. “Didn’t you say you’d bring someone over for a pregnancy test?”
‘But to bring a little brother here?’
Huo Yunchuan was helplessly silent in the face of his brother’s doubt. He knew this entire matter was ludicrous, but he still took out the blood testing report, unfolded it, and handed it to Jiang Shaofei. “Verify if this thing is true or bogus.”
Jiang Shaofei was a doctor. And it was natural for him to be more sensitive to analyzing test reports than anyone else. As soon as he read the first few words, Jiang Shaofei could feel his entire scalp numbing. His mouth hung open on its own, and his eyes were overflowing with disbelief.
“What?” Huo Yunchuan withdrew the piece of paper from his friend’s slacked hands and asked him warily.
“I’m not convinced.” Jiang Shaofei pushed his eyeglasses and said, distrust clear in his voice, “Unless I test it myself.” Otherwise, how could he accept a boy could become pregnant?
Unless An Wuyang’s gender was not male, he would be a rare yin yang.
After all, it was Huo Yunchuan who entered the court, and he knew much about the matter.
“Yunchuan,” Jiang Shaofei faced his childhood friend, and asked straightforward, “Were there any female organs under him?”
Huo Yunchuan reciprocated his serious stare and shook his head. “No.” He knew as clear as day and was unlikely to be wrong.
‘That’s valid,’ Jiang Shaofei thought. Huo Yunchuan would never forget which hole he entered.
洞 dòng cave or hole
‘How abstruse.’
“Forget it. Just have a blood test, and the results will be out in ten minutes.” Jiang Shaofei then raised a professional smile and turned to greet An Wuyang.
Huo Yunchuan tried to stick closely with the two but was dismissed by Jiang Shaofei to register. “You go. If it’s true, you’ll be constantly visiting here for prenatal checkups in the future. You can’t always make me open the back for you.”
‘In any case, I’m not in a hurry now.’
Seeing his friend hesitate, Jiang Shaofei cracked up. “You’re worried about whether I eat the egg?”
In having no better refute for this, Huo Yunchuan forced himself to nod.
“Give me your ID card,” he said to An Wuyang.
Sitting there on the side and listening to the indistinct murmurs of the two, An Wuyang felt depressed. But for the sake of the baby in his stomach, he consoled himself to only treat the current situation with rapt level-headedness.
Just endure for a year, at most, he thought.
He fished out his ID card and placed it atop Huo Yunchuan’s offered palm without a word.
The other party received it and held the card a bit too tight in his hand. He took another glance at Jiang Shaofei and exhorted, “Let’s talk about it once I come back.”
Jiang Shaofei felt anger bubbling inside him. “You’re so fucking wasting time.” But when he met Huo Yunchuan’s staid eyes, he nodded, showing that he had a sense of propriety.
Huo Yunchuan turned his attention toward An Wuyang again, and said, “I have to register for you. I’ll return soon.”
An Wuyang said, “Okay.”
After Jiang Shaofei crossed his arms and followed Huo Yunchuan’s departing figure with his eyes, he sighed and gazed at An Wuyang with complicated eyes.
What he pondered in his heart was the possibility the young man truly carried the seed of Huo Yunchuan. If that happened, then somehow he would reach the sky in one step.
Even if he could not enter the Huo family in the end, it would not change the fact that the other gave birth to a baby grandson for the Huo family.
