21 - Lazarion
Lulurun goes behind Rhynes to assist in activating the spell.
“Do we have to hold hands?” Rhynes asked.
“If an outburst occurs, I can’t react instantly if we’re not, right?” Lulurun asked.
“I guess so…” Rhynes said.
“What’s wrong?” Lulurun said.
“No, nothing!” Rhynes said.
As she looked away in embarrassment, Lulurun began to seriously explain the situation.
“The spell you inherited, Rhynes, is Lazarion, a self-enhancement magic that will surround your body in lightning, and if you can imagine it, that power can spread outside of you and cause a lot of trouble,” she said.
“Surround my body in lightning?” Rhynes asked.
The outlandish effect surprised Rhynes, but she was quickly convinced that it was an unknown magical spell and that her common sense would not apply.
“The power of lightning will surround my whole body…” Rhynes said.
“If you make a mistake, don’t worry, I’ll help,” Lulurun said.
""
“All right…” Rhynes said.
She took in a breath and squeezed Lulurun’s hand.
“If you concentrate, you should be able to feel the mana inside you, Rhynes,” Lulurun said.
“Mana?” Rhynes asked.
Mana is the source of magic and the first step in activating a spell is to feel the mana coursing through you.
After getting the seal engraved on her hand, Rhynes can feel it, and if she concentrates, she’s able to feel magical power she had never felt before.
Her eyes closed, Rhynes sharpened her nerves to sense the presence of mana, concentrate it, and see imagine it was standing before her.
She had her eyes closed for a while as she concentrated, Rhynes senses something different.
“Ah… “
Rhynes opened her eyes and saw a rush of light like nothing he’d ever seen before.
“Is this mana?” Rhynes asked.
“Yes, this is the source of magic, and it seems you can see it immediately after all, Rhynes,” Lulurun said.
“What do you mean?” Rhynes asked.
“Mana can only be sensed by those who believe in their existence and who want to see them. If you don’t have it in your core, your heart, you can’t begin to understand mana,” Lulurun said.
“So it’s that kind of mentality?” Rhynes said.
“Yes, yes, surprisingly like it, guts and spirit,” Lulurun said.
“I see then, then that’s good for me,” Rhynes said.
With trembling hands, Rhynes touches the torrent of mana, the light spreads like ripples and becomes one again, swimming around Rhynes. Lulurun watched, fascinated by Rhynes’ beauty and the light of mana.
“Incredible…” Lulurun said.
It was of admiration, not flattery but a true compliment.
“You’re amazing after all, Rhynes,” Lulurun said.
“What do you mean?”
“I’ve never seen anyone who can resonate with their mana so powerfully from the start,” Lulurun said.
“Resonate?” Rhynes asked.
“Those who are loved by mana make excellent magicians,” Lulurun said.
“I don’t know, it feels weird,” Rhynes said. “It seems like I’m feeling it for the first time but it’s not.”
“There are so many forms of mana all over the world, and it’s not strange to feel that everyone has always been involved with it they were born,” Lulurun said.
“There is such a beautiful power in the world that we just don’t know about,” Rhynes said.
“Right? Mana was always there to help us.”
As she sees Rhynes so impressed by the mana, Lulurun remembers her time as Yokoi Keisuke, when the world she lived in was so full of mana, the same as this world overflowing with mana, magic isn’t scary, it’s the power to help the world.
As she looks at Rhynes, Lulurun reaffirms the preciousness of magic, she’s certain that passing down her spell to Rhynes was going to be of benefit to this world.
“If it’s you, Rhynes, I’m sure it will work,” Lulurun said.
“If you think so, Keisuke, then it will work,” Rhynes said.
“Now then, let’s get started, Rhynes,” Lulurun said.
“Yeah!”
Believing in Lulurun’s words, Reines chants the name of the spell she inherited:
“Lazarion.”
And when the mana is sucked into the crest on Rhynes’s hand, the spell is activated.
