Chapter 126 - What if it's true?

Yun Jifeng shrugged again, as if he was just repeating what he was told. "Who am I to ask? She said she got it from the He family."

"The He family?" Wan Jia thought it was strange. If that family knew who her real parents were, why did they not tell her and instead just dumped her?

Wan Jia wondered about something else. "How did she link me back to the He family?"

Four years ago, Lu Aotian had taken down all her background information and the only people who knew about her He family were those who knew it before.

So, she couldn't understand how on earth people could still find out. Fist it was Lin Lihua and now some strange woman claiming to be her mother? How was that even possible? Lu Aotian's hacking skills were not to be triffled with.

As a person who wanted to trick her, Yun Jifeng knew this fact and turned it around before she asked. "The woman claimed to have recieved information from a former nurse who worked in the hospital you were born. She said it was the nurse who switched you with the He family's baby."

Now, it got even weirder. Would someone commit such a crime and years later confess of it? Unless that nurse was forced...

Yun Jifeng continued. "She said that when she went to the He family, they were cold to her and shoved your photo in her face."

Wan Jia asked. "If she is my mother, why did she not look for me earlier then?" she sounded bitter.

Yun Jifeng replied, "I cannot be too sure about that, but Lu Aotian locked down everything about your past. It's as if you appeared out of thin air when you were nineteen. Even the little details that were still lingering around were cleared out later. The fact that she even found such a clue must have been great effort on her side."

Hearing this, Wan Jia felt a little warmer. If she used effort to look for her, it must mean that her mother missed her and wanted her back, right?

"Then can I meet her?" Wan Jia still had suspicions about this whole story but she trusted Yun Jifeng. Just for the fact that he was her friend's brother, he would not do anything to trick her, or would he?

Yun Jifeng considered her request. He even gave a gentlemanly piece of advice. "Wanwan, I wouldn't advice you to meet her."

"Why?" she asked.

"What if she's lying? You should ask the He family if what she said was true, if they really gave her your photo. It wouldn't be too nice if she is a fraud."

"You're right. She could be lying." Although she thought, if someone could make up such a lie, they had to be devilishly terrifying.

Leaning against the wall, the 'devilishly terrifying' Yun Jifeng scoffed in his heart. How gullible! He just had to set a little trap about her most sensitive topic and down she went.

When Wan Jia snapped back from last night's memory, the video on Lu Aotian's laptop had long stopped playing.

She now thought about asking, "Why did you play that? I'm the main lead in that video, of course I know the content."

"About those things Yun Jifeng said..."

Without letting him finish, she interrupted him. "Are you going to say that he lied to me? Why would he do that?"

Lu Aotian looked at her helplessly. "Don't be stubborn. He may have colluded with someone to make this up."

Wan Jia did not believe Yun Jifeng was that kind of person, but Lu Aotian had never been wrong about anyone. Besides, if she were to chose who to trust between Yun Jifeng and Lu Aotian, the answer was quite obvious.

"What would he achieve by doing that?" she was curious.

"That, I don't know yet. But he really did plan with someone to do such a thing. Shaoting and I were almost tricked too." he said.

Wan Jia looked on in disbelief. Lu Shaoting and Lu Aotian, those two geniuses, were almost tricked together? That must have been a brilliant scheme.

This morning, Wan Jia had been torn between going to the He family home and not going, so much that she could not concentrate on anything. In the end, Elder Qian even let her leave hours earlier.

"But the He family wouldn't lie." she said.

"They indeed wouldn't lie." he seconded. "However, just because they wouldn't lie to you doesn't mean they would tell you what you need to know. Think about it, why do you think they left you so bitterly? They must hate you a lot."

It was very painful hearing that, but it was the bare truth. They really hated her. They must have hated her to the bones for them to dump her in the middle of nowhere and not even care. What happened for them to have such feelings?

She took a deep breath. Lu Aotian did not like dwelling on this topic either, so he said sternly to end it, "Yun Jifeng and his minion are counting on the fact that the He family would not tell you the truth. That's why he used their name."

He added, "You don't need to go. Whoever the woman he talked about is, she is not your mother."

"What if...what if it's not really a lie? He said that that my character was just like that woman's. What if she's really my mother?" Her tears were rolling in quick drops.
