Chapter 518 - She really meant it

Xu Tang gazed at her for a while before he burst into laughter. 

"You know, I almost thought you were serious about it. You shouldn't joke about such things too much." 

Lu Meili was displeased. Why did he think everything she said was a joke? "But I'm serious. I love you very much." 

Xu Tang turned to meet her gaze and saw nothing but seriousness in her eyes. Her expression was quite armorous.

He gulped. She really.... meant it? 

But on the other hand, she was an actress. The nation's best actress at that. It shouldn't be hard for her to prank someone.

Lu Meili frowned. What in the world? "Are you scared we would break up if we became a couple? You don't have to worry about that. As long as we love each other..." 

"But I don't." 

Lu Meili's heart skipped a beat. "What?" 

Xu Tang didn't dare to look into her eyes, afraid he would be tempted to make the wrong decision. "Lu Meili, I've always treated you as my best friend and younger sister. I didn't ever have that kind of feelings for you. If..." he paused and looked at her, hoping she was not too hurt by his words. "If I chose to be with you just because the truth would be unbearable, that would be irresponsible of me and both of us might end up getting hurt." 

"After all, love is what matters the most in a relationship, right?" 

Lu Meili stubbornly didn't want to believe his words. "Who do you have feelings for, then? Annie Lan?" 

Xu Tang thought he may as well tell her the truth. "I don't know for sure. All I know is, I find her quite cute. But nothing is set  in stone yet." 

Lu Meili smiled bitterly. So he really had someone in his mind. No wonder when the rumors broke out about Annie Lan being in a relationship with the CEO of Xu Corporation, he neither said anything to deny it nor pulled the news down.

No wonder he was with Annie Lan when she saw him. So it was because of this. He liked her.

Until she dropped him off at Xu Corporation, they were silent the entire ride. 

"Meili..." 

Lu Meili stopped him with a smile. "Don't worry. I understand. We can still remain friends." 

Xu Tang wasn't sure whether her smile was real or fake but he didn't pester her. She would be fine. It was better to tell her the truth than be with her simply because he was unable to reject her.
