Chapter 543 - The person who knew him best

He opened the door slowly. The little woman had her eyes covered using a blindfold so she didn't see him come in. Nonetheless, he could tell that her senses were piqued. She must have heard someone come in because she smiled. 

How impressive. Did she know him so well that he only needed to walk in for her to know that the new comer was him, even when he didn't make any sound? 

He had to admit, no one knew him better than Lu Meili did. 

Perhaps because of his presence, she became nervous and tripped on her own legs. She felt a sharp pain in her ankle and flopped onto the floor, clutching it tightly. 

Xu Tang rushed over in alarm. "Are you alright?" 

He pulled the blindfold off her eyes then took her ankle carefully, massaging it a little. "Does it hurt?" 

Lu Meili shook her head. He was holding her ankle in his arms like he would hold a delicate newborn. How could it hurt? Even if it hurt, she wouldn't feel any pain. 

"How can you be so careless? If you are not careful, forget about the audition. You will not even be able to walk." He scolded. 

Although she was being scolded, her heart was brimming with happiness. When he left earlier, she thought he wouldn't return. If Annie Lan knew he was going back to her, she obviously wouldn't let him leave. It was a surprise that he was back. Not only that, he still cared about her.

Although she didn't want to, she still had to keep dancing. She therefore stood up and stretched. 

"Are you here to dance with me?" She jokingly asked. 

"Before that, I should tell you something." 

Lu Meili looked into his eyes. "What is it?" 

Xu Tang was going to tell her that because there was a lot going on at the company, he would not have time to dance with her anymore. However, as soon as her big bright eyes met his, he couldn't bring himself to lie to her that way. 

He obviously liked Annie Lan. Why was it that he cared so much about Lu Meili's feelings?  

"You were going to say something?" She prompted when he remained silent for too long. 

He shook his head. However the next moment, he thought about how terrible it would be if she remained hung up on him for long, only to end up with a broken heart. That would ruin all their years of friendship. 

"I want to confess to a girl, I don't know how to do it." 

Lu Meili chuckled and stood on her tiptoes to pat his head. "Our dear Tangtang finally fell in love. Who is the lucky girl?" 

"An actress." Xu Tang answered vaguely. Although the person he had in mind was Annie Lan, Lu Meili smiled. Although she also knew that he could be having feelings for Annie Lan, why was she still happy? 

"If she is hard to please, spend some time together and confess when she has grown attatched to you. If she is easy to please, take her on a date and buy her a present. 

Keep in mind, you have to be sincere. Girls hate pretentious men. Also, most young ladies like warm colors like red and pink." 

"Annie likes blue." 

With those three words, her cheerful chatter ceased. 

"What?" 

"If I'm going to prepare a present that requires me to choose a color, I should go for the girl's favorite color, right?" 

Lu Meili took in a deep breath. "Yes, that's right." 

She took her bag unceremoniously. "If there's nothing else, I will take my leave now. I just remembered that my mother asked me to drop by MAX." 

Xu Tang saw through her words. How fast had her mood changed? He rushed to grab her elbow. "What's wrong? Are you mad at me?" 

Lu Meili couldn't hold it anymore. "Let go of me Xu Tang. You did it deliberately, didn't you?" 

"I do not understand." 

"You led me on and made me think you were starting to have feelings for me, then suddenly swept it all away in an instant. Isn't that what you intended to do?" 

"Not at all. Meili, I naturally care about you. However, every time I show my concern, you easily mistake it for me being in love with you. That's why... that's why I..." 

Lu Meili shrugged his hand off. "That's why you want me to keep my distance, or else it would ruin your relationship with the girl you like, right?" 

Xu Tang swallowed hard. He didn't think she would see through him that easily. But then again, she was still the person who knew him best. That was indeed what was going on in his mind...

"Meili, you're such a nice girl. Eventually you will..." 

"Don't give me that. And don't worry about me; I won't forcefully cling onto you." She left right after saying this. 

Xu Tang leaned against the wall. He obviously wanted her to leave, why did he feel like his heart had been broken along with hers? 

Though thinking about it, the method he had used to make her give up on him was rather cruel. 

However, it was for the best interest of both of them. There would be no obstacle between him and Annie Lan, and she would find someone who loves her. She deserved to be loved by all means.
