Chapter 411: Lucky one.

At Grandmother Han’s stern comment or more like a warning, Cheng Zixing cleared her throat and forced a smile, ” Mother, you’re misunderstanding my words. I was just joking and trying to join the conversation. That’s all.”

“However, it seems like whatever I speak here will be misunderstood.” She glanced at Xu Nuan who didn’t even say a single word tonight and was pretending to be a nice girl all of a sudden. So fake!!

Cheng Zixing smiled bitterly as if she was the victim of everyone’s rude comments and added, ” I better go and check if the servants have prepared the dinner table.” As said this, she stood up and went inside the kitchen.

However, even after she left, it took some time for the atmosphere to change its flow and return back to the normal bickering session between Xu Nuan and Han Liang.

While things were getting normal in the living room, Han Zihao who was standing in the corridor near the entrance pursed his lips and glanced towards the kitchen area.

When he was returning after attending the phone call, he heard the conversation between Cheng Zixing and Grandmother Han and also heard the comments that Cheng Zixing indirectly made towards Xu Nuan.

If she thinks that such behavior can be tolerated just because she is older in terms of age and relation, then she is clearly misunderstanding him. He was toleratings his attitude because she is his father’s wife and doesn’t want to create any issues unnecessarily.

” Don’t add the fruits in the custard now. Add them fresh before serving them.” Cheng Zixing instructed the servants as she was telling them what to do and what not to do while serving the desserts later.

” Yes, Madam.” The servant nodded and went ahead to keep the custard to cool down and set it in the refrigerator.

” Oh? Han Zihao, what are you doing in the kitchen? Do you need anything?” Cheng Zixing who was about to leave the kitchen was caught off guard when she noticed Han Zihao standing at the entrance of the kitchen.

Han Zihao shook his head coolly before walking inside the kitchen. He glanced at the servants who were looking at him in nervousness and waved his hands at them and said, ” Go outside and rest for a while. Your work is done here.”

Everyone was confused as they stared at him in bewilderment and then turned to Cheng Zixing who understood the meaning behind his words. ” Yes. Go and take some rest. Everything is done here anyway.” She nodded and gave them a reassured look.

After the servants left the kitchen, the smile from Cheng Zixing’s face faded and her expressions turned frigid as she looked at him seriously, ” What brings you here? Do you have anything to say to me?” She asked.

There must be a reason why he came to the kitchen to talk to her. Otherwise, why would he come here when everyone is in the living room? That too, living his dear girlfriend alone?

” I heard what you said in the living room just now.” He said indifferently.

Cheng Zixing raised her brows as she wasn’t expecting him to talk about that matter so outrightly. She cleared her throat and put up a strong front in front of him and asked, ” So? Is there anything you want to talk about?”

A low chuckle let out of Han Zihao’s lips upon hearing Cheng Zixing’s confident words. He didn’t talk round about the topic and said straightforwardly, ” You are my father’s wife and I respect you for that. I will always give you the respect you deserve as Mrs. Han, however, don’t try to be my mom.”

” I never allowed you to take over that position and you know that.” He said coldly. Even if his parents divorced and she left him to make a new family, he never wanted to fill that void with someone else.

Even his family never forced him to do so and accept someone else as his mother. As such emotions cannot be forced on someone and only be felt by heart. And he never felt close enough to Cheng Zixing to call her as his mother.

Cheng Zixing’s expressions turned sour upon hearing his comment. She knows that he never considers her as his mother, but it was his first time saying such words openinly like this.

And, it hurts. She did so much for him to accept her as his mother, yet he always treats her as an outsider.

Han Zihao noticed her rigid expressions and pursed his lips closely before continuing, ” Mrs. Han, Xu Nuan is the girl I love and care for. It doesn’t matter what you think about her.”

” She will become the Mistress of the family and my wife in the future. That for sure.” He announced with certainty.

” If you think your opinion will matter in this regard, then forget about it. No one can make me change my mind about this decision, other than Xu Nuan herself.” He said coldly, causing Cheng Zixing to turn away her gaze from his face and make her look down in nervousness.

His serious expressions are surely intimidating.

” It would be better if you could refrain from making harsh remarks against her. Even if she doesn’t complain, I will not tolerate this kind of attitude towards her.” He said seriously before turning around to leave.

He knew that it’s high time for him to draw lines between his relationship with Cheng Zixing. Otherwise, she will continue to do the same thing again and again and this will make the relationship even worse in the future if the same continues.

Just as he was about to leave he heard Cheng Zixing say, ” Aren’t you guys too biased? Why are you guys treating that girl so differently? Huh?” She asked in a slightly louder voice than her usual tone.

Han Zihao halted in his steps and turned to face her.

Cheng Zixing gulped hard to see the intimidating expressions of Han Zihao but continued, ” Everyone is being so nice to that girl. Despite spending her whole life in the orphanage and not knowing anything about the high-society, you all treat her like a precious treasure.”

” How come all this gentleness and pampering were nowhere to be found when I married your father and came to this house? It took me years to make my place in this family. You still don’t take me as your mother, yet this girl has enchanted everyone with her one smile. Why there is so much discrimination between her and me? Huh?” She asked as tears were brimming in her eyes.

It’s not like she has disliked Xu Nuan from the start. But she couldn’t understand how a girl who had no proper family background and was even disregarded by her own family, managed to get the attention of everyone in this family.

She could see how much Grandmother Han adores that girl and how she has grasped everyone’s attention so easily. What is it that Xu Nuan has and she doesn’t?

Han Zihao raised his brows and sighed deeply before answering, ” Because she never tried to impress anyone. She was simply being herself rather than being someone that she isn’t.” He said in a monotonous tone.

Even though Cheng Zixing is his father’s second wife, everyone in the family accepted her pretty easily, compared to how everyone suffered from the first marriage of his father and mother. When a marriage comes to an end, other relations also take a hit and suffer the damage as well.

It took some time for everyone to accept her happily but no one ever disrespected her or looked down on her. However, it seems like she still feels different because of her family background compared to the Han family and still thinks that she doesn’t have any place in the family and has the urge to make a place for herself.

Cheng Zixing was lost. She was also being herself, so why does everyone think that she was faking it? ” What do you mean? So are you saying that I am pretending to be what I am and faking it all this long?”

Han Zihao shrugged his shoulders and said, ” I never said that. I simply answered your question. You asked why everyone adores Xu Nuan, that’s the reason. She never treats anyone nicely just because that person belongs to a wealthy or powerful background.”

“Her niceness doesn’t change towards anyone after finding out about their family background or so. I hope this answer will help you to find the answer to your remaining questions.” As said this, he took a glass of water from the kitchen and left the area while taking a sip of water from the glass.

Seeing Han Zihao leaving after saying such words, Cheng Zixing could feel her cheeks burning in humiliation and anger. She always puts a well-mannered and proper behavior in front of him yet she showed him her ugly side today.

” This girl....she sure is lucky to have someone who loves her like crazy.” She murmured in a low voice, feeling envious of Xu Nuan.

Even though she married Han Zihao’s father, she never gets to experience the love that Xu Nuan is getting from her partner. It’s the kind of love that only lucky people gets to experience in their lifetime.
