A week later
Winter slowly but surely became harsher. More snow blanketed the lands and the temperature continue to drop
The accumulated snow has become thicker to the point that the roof of some huts collapses. The tribesmen have to regularly clear the snow on their roofs to keep their living spaces intact
Almost 24/7 a day, the tribesmen burned firewood to generate enough heat for their survival. Many people die from the cold whenever winter arrived and no one wants to suffer the same fate
Inside one of the huts in the Waterside Tribe, Rezen could be seen sitting on the ground in a meditative posture with his eyes close
Outsiders would think that he was meditating and drawing the free mana in the atmosphere into his elixir field but that is not actually the case
Rezen's consciousness entered his elixir field and the 'eyes' of his soul opened
The soul of people generally has the same appearance as their physical bodies but are translucent blue in color
Rezen's soul was sitting on the central part of his elixir field where fog-like energies were stored which was his mana
His soul stood up, he was actually able to control his soul to move but this was limited while his soul is inside his elixir field
Rezen didn't waste any time and his spirit body entered his farm that shrunk into the size of a coin yet the inside has a space of hundred meters in diameter
From left to right, back to front, the circular piece of land was exactly 100 meters in diameter. The farm is currently filled with fully grown Spirit Plants, making the farmland look like it was filled with vitality
At its current size, Rezen could grow a hundred portions of the ingredients for the mana elixir
Since the farm was nerfed, it needed a full 24 hours to grow Junior Grade 1st cycle Spirit Plants unlike before where the plants could mature in a matter of hours
Of course, this speed was still unbelievably fast. In the real world, it would take weeks or even months for such Spirit Plants to fully mature but inside Rezen's farm, a single day is enough
While it was nerfed, the farm is still worthy of being called a cheat
"Hmm, they still have over 90% purity" Rezen muttered as he stared at the patches of matured Spirit Plants
"The higher the purity of the Spirit Plant, the harder it is to distill them. When it comes to distilling practice, Spirit Plants with low purity are still the best"
"While this is a good thing as the lesser impurities potions have, the better, this is bad for my alchemy training. In the future, there might be times when I have to use normal ingredients to concoct potions of high quality. I have to be better at distilling Spirit Plants"
Rezen is facing a small problem. Many people especially alchemists desire to have Spirit Plants with high purity percentage since the lesser the impurities of the ingredients, the easier it is to concoct potions with high purity percentage
While potions are useful, they also have negative effects when consumed regularly. The more potions a mage consumed, the more impurities they accumulate
A mage with a lot of impurities will have unstable mana and magic, and advancing in rank is also harder than usual. As such, mages would seek high-purity potions to accumulate as less impurities as possible
For that to happen, an alchemist has to be talented at distilling Spirit Plants but the best method is still to use ingredients with high purity percentage
With the ingredients that Rezen has, he could easily make potions with over 90% purity and that is an extremely high purity percentage!
The Spirit Plants he normally found in the wild only have 40% or less purity percentage. This means that without distilling the Spirit Plants, the potions he would create from them also have 40% or less purity percentage. That is too low and consuming them would cause the consumer to accumulate impurities faster than normal
While Rezen is still in a small tribe that he planned on nourishing to become his weapon, he is still sure that in the future, he will enter bigger and more developed societies
When that time comes, having the identity of an alchemist would surely be beneficial for him. As such, he wanted to be a proper and experienced alchemist
"Ivy, is there a way for the farm to grow Spirit Plants with a lesser purity percentage?" Rezen asked and motes of light suddenly appeared and condensed in front of him, forming the tiny body of Ivy which was seemingly the 'resident A.I' of the farm
"That is possible by using a lesser amount of energy to grow Spirit Plants" Ivy answered before pointing its hand above
Floating in the air is what looks like a battery icon of phones from Rezen's previous world
The battery is fully green in color and one could even read "100%" from it. This means that the farm is fully charged
When growing a hundred portions of mana elixir ingredients, the farm would have to use all the energy it has except for the required energy to maintain its existence
However, the farm could also recover the same amount of energy in a day. In short, Rezen could grow a hundred portions of ingredients a day and the farm's energy recovery and consumption would break even
However, it was best not to do that. That farm has a "self-growth function". Aside from relying on Rezen's advancement and "offerings", the farm could also grow by using the energy it accumulated. The farm couldn't do that when its energy recovery and consumption are at the same level
It's like some gym bros want to grow muscles but their energy intake is only enough to support their normal bodily function
Fortunately, it's not like Rezen could make a hundred mana elixirs per day. He doesn't have the capacity to use all the ingredients in a single day and the farm could freely use the excess energy it absorbs from the universe using an unknown method to grow itself
Of course, just like the meditation of mages, growth couldn't happen in a single day. It takes time to notice considerable improvements in the farm
Rezen didn't expect that the farm could also use lesser energy to grow Spirit Plants and that would lead to the growth of Spirits Plants with a lower quality
Then does this means that using more energy would make it possible for Spirit Plants with an even higher purity percentage to be grown here?
Rezen took note of this function and asked Ivy to use less energy and after he harvested twenty portions of ingredients, he replanted the seeds he gathered
Fortunately, although not all grown plants have seeds, there is still enough to regrow the harvested ones and Rezen was even able to store some seeds for future usage when his farm expands
There is no special requirement when it comes to planting the Spirit Plants since the farm itself would do most of the work. Soon, Rezen's consciousnesses returned to his physical body and from his elixir field, the twenty portions of ingredients came out
"This made me feel like I'm that blue cat cartoon character" Rezen mused, thinking about a certain cartoon character that stored who knows how many items in the pouch on its stomach
"I don't know why the farm chose me considering my lacking talent but I could only work hard to make up for what I lacked. In the future, I might discover treasures that could increase my natural talent" Rezen muttered while staring at the piles of ingredients
Whether it be in the path of a mage or an alchemist, Rezen found that he lacks in the talent department
He was able to reach his current rank fast because of the mysterious peaches and bananas but after becoming a Junior Mage, he found out that his progress while only relying on his raw talent is painfully slow
Even in the path of alchemy, Rezen is mediocre at best. He has to waste many ingredients before he could even succeed once
He doesn't know why the farm chose someone like him or if it even has a choice in the first place but currently, Rezen could only do his best
Ivy gave him special recipes that could increase his talent but considering their effects, they are the type of elixirs that could be considered as the ones that are the hardest to concoct
Since Rezen is lacking in alchemy talent, he would make it up for it using an endless supply of resources!
He doesn't need to care how many ingredients he has to waste. All he has to care about is his progress and being better at creating elixirs
Other people with talent might not have enough resources to practice. And while Rezen doesn't have the talent that they have, he on the other hand has more than enough ingredients he could use
If others could succeed in one or two tries then Rezen will try tens or even hundreds of times!
