Chapter 107 107 - "Leader"



"What the fuck?"

In front of Ryan's eyes, a notification had appeared. All the challenge information from that portal was written on a black box that floated in front of his face.

The Time on Gate was running fast, counting every minute, second, and millisecond. On a timer that was precisely synchronized with the current time. Placing his hand on his chin, Ryan cautiously analyzed the information.

"That's seven deaths per minute... The guild staff is not handling this confrontation that well"

<We need to find the purpose of that portal, if we continue this way...

'The result will be the same as the first red portal'

Nyx and Ryan looked at each other, and an idea popped into both their minds. 'You take care of the control of the boxes?' he thought. <Yes! Master!> Nyx replied. Removing the boxes from her inventory, Nyx took the demonic form she had used during the duel against Lyza. The girl had transformed into a shadow of Ryan, a sort of black smoke that followed him. Hiding in the midst of his demonic energy was the most efficient way she had of hiding and being able to help at the same time.

Running towards the front line, Ryan activated his demon wings. Flying up to thirty feet off the ground, he aimed his rifle in front of the scorpions that kept running towards the guild warriors. "Bang."

A beam of light came out of the barrel of that red rifle, flying with full force into that huddle of scorpions. Moving the gun, he caused that beam to go blasting the heads of the lined up scorpions. One after another, the creatures' bodies exploded, with the liquid inside leaking out of their scales and plates. The liquid was falling to the ground, forming a greenish puddle with the inside of those creatures.

With each second, more and more of those creatures were being knocked down. Meanwhile, the skeletons continued to rise, one after another. A few slime golems piled up, leaking out of the sands and returning to the confrontation. The guild group was moving forward with difficulty, even with the support of the several travelers and mages who were using large-scale destruction spells.

"Now!" Ryan shouted to Nyx. Then the succubus flew at him, and using the power of the dwarven cubes, she created two gigantic Mana hands. Each of the hands were at the ends of the battle, and then the hands were joined at high speed, advancing through the three miles of confrontation. 

"What's that!" One of the travelers shouted.

"It's the boy from before!" A druid said, exalted.

"Over there! Wait! It's Ryan?" Kodiak said, surprised.

"Yes! It's Ryan!" Ruri said, excitedly. 

The mana hands then closed in, making a ball out of the heap of skeletons and scorpions they collected in the middle of the way. There were still several slimegolems, but this area attack was enough to ease the situation for the guild raid.

With the reduction in attack, another mental transmission came up "Aether Lightstone here. Let's start the operation guidelines, we are gathering the S rank travelers. We will divide the groups into ranks of rank and function, the performance must follow protocol." The message popped into the heads of all the travelers at the same time. Within seconds, the warriors rushed back and forth to establish positioning. 

Rank A tanks stood in front, behind were groups of mages and riflemen. Protecting the mages were the physical attack travelers. A row of physical damage travelers and warriors stayed in the back, they would alternate with the front group to relieve the fatigue and physical wear and tear of combat.

The only ones who didn't take this position instantly were a group of a hundred warriors who gathered in front of the tanks. This was the squad of warriors at or above Rank S.

In front of the group was Aether Lightstone, the mage who had made the last mind transmission "How many of you possess large scale powers?" he said, observing the group. Of the hundred travelers, only fifteen raised their hands, among them, Ryan Whitemane.

Aether crossed both arms, thoughtful. "The guild has suffered a significant number of losses today, let's get on with advancing by groups. I want you guys to split up between those who are going to destroy the most monsters and those who are going to help in the boss fight."

<Isn't he a bit arrogant?

'No, he's just trying to guide everyone. From what I remember, he's a Rank SSS.'

<Doesn't he look like alice?>

'Yeah... They also have the same last name...'

<What a strange one...>

Aether Lightstone was a battle mage, he was wearing a white armor with gold details that matched well with the blond hair he had. The tone and color were similar to Alice's. He had blue eyes and a confident smile, in his hand he was carrying a long staff with a white crystal on top.

Next to him was the shining woman who was flying back and forth. She had long brown hair and wore a sort of sash in front of her eyes, her attire was a simple pair of jeans and a sports shirt.

<She's wearing casual clothes?

'If you pay attention, most of the warriors here are wearing casual clothes.

<Oh, that's right>

Next to Ryan was a red haired traveler in a pair of jeans, shirtless and wearing sandals. Next to Aether was a warrior in full armor, except for his feet, which were wearing running shoes. 'This is a little different than I imagined a battle would be, but I guess it makes sense'

The group of Rank S travelers was a bit more exotic than usual, but it was still noticeable how strong each of those members were. Not only their looks but their very equipment and confidence demonstrated this. 

The slime golems and the occasional skeleton attack were suppressed by four rank S travelers, so that for about twenty-five minutes the raid was able to rest and plan.

Ryan was fiddling with his cell phone, even without a signal, he took advantage of the free time to try to look for some useful information in the guides that the guild made available. Emerging behind him, the same voice that appeared in the projection greeted him.

"So you are Ryan Whitemane of the Neodrazzil Academy, it's a pleasure to meet you" Aether said with a smile on his face. The blond was extending his hand, and Ryan accepted the length.

"Thanks for taking care of me, but I didn't know my name was so well known. He said, with a small smile. The blond replied "I've heard a lot about you the last few days, especially coming from my cousin." 

'Oh...'

"You're talking about Alice?" Ryan questioned.

Aether nodded, confirming.

'It's a relief to know that I'm not fucking his sister'

'She commented on you to me, since you are also acting in the guild' he said, crossing both arms 'I was surprised she was interested in a boy, but you are someone worth paying attention to'.

'This guy is dangerous...'

Aether's eyes were sharp as a sword. Those two deep blue eyes seemed to be reading every move and reaction Ryan was taking, and the same could be said for the red eyes of that demon lord. The two were watching each other's every move, in an almost obvious mental chess.

"I just got a power boost a little faster" He said. Aether gently placed his hand on Ryan's shoulder, "I'm counting on your help then" he said before leaving.

<'What has he done that is dangerous?

'Did you notice his eyes?'

<Yes, something is wrong>

"The attacks have returned!" A woman shouted. 

Aether rose into the air and launched another mental transmission "One more wave is starting, let's conclude it and begin the advance near the point of origin! We need to find the goal of this portal!" 

All the travelers shouted with animation, and then the Rank S advanced to the front. In the middle of the forest of black trees there was an army of scorpions running towards the group, these creatures were accompanied by gigantic snakes and skeletons. In the sky, there were two eyes floating in the clouds. Below the eyes, hundreds of bats were flying, dropping that corrosive liquid.

"That's going to be a little tricky..." Ryan said, removing the sword from his back, "Nyx, watch out for whatever approaches from behind." He then took off running at a run, The succubus was behind him in the form of the shadows. Holding her rifle, she began firing bursts of light at the heads of those creatures.

With his sword, Ryan was slashing at the approaching scorpions. Channeling his demonic aura in his hand, he was using the black flames as a defense. With one hand he was cutting off the head and sting of those creatures, with the other he was casting his black flames and punching the creatures that were getting too close.

<Behind you> Nyx said.

With one shot she blew off the head of a skeleton that was about to attack Ryan. 'Thanks' he replied, with a smile. 'Let's keep at it, when they start to pile up, use your hands again'. 

<Ok!>

She said, pointing the rifle upwards. A beam of light came out cutting through the clouds, knocking down five bats at once. 

The guild was managing to advance, but the monsters began an attack from the rear. Along with the slime golems, four gigantic dragons appeared near the portal. "They get out?!" Said the redhead, who was standing next to Ryan.
