Chapter 108 108 - Challenge



The four dragons were too close to the portal, to a point that was already dangerous. Even with the barrier they had created outside, it was still better to prevent more dangerous creatures from getting out. 'The barrier should hold four dragons, but that's a bit tricky.' As Ryan thought about how to help, monsters continued to attack him.

One scorpion after another, he was eliminating those creatures with ease. The black flames that his demonic aura produced were being effective in the fight, although it was still a bit more complex when he was facing the skeletons. Using that golden sword, he went about crushing the skulls of the approaching skeletons.

When Ryan turned around, he could observe from afar how they were dealing with the dragons. Aether Lightstone was flying in the skies, next to the glowing traveler. Using a gravitational ability, the blond man caused the four dragons to be stuck to the ground, after which the four dragons were executed with neck cuts from side to side.

<Isn't that pretty, boring?>

'It is indeed, but I guess it works, so...'

"The eyes are beginning their attack! Activate the shields!" one of the travelers shouted. Then the S Rank squadron prepared to start the combat with those two eyes. 

One of the mages took the lead and activated a barrier, but Ryan had a slightly unusual idea. Placing his hand on his battle partner's shoulder, he said "Don't activate the shield now." The mage was visibly confused. "The bats are still advancing, try to bring the shield closer to the team," Ryan's idea was effective, as effective as Aether's methods.

In the same instant, the blue haired mage gave a smile, accepting the proposal "Haha! This is going to be interesting."

The bats were advancing with extreme speed, gathered in groups of five. The long-range attacks were causing those creatures to remain distant, so for a short time all spells stopped. The sound of swords and explosions continued, but no magic was cutting through the skies.

Those giant eyes were charging their attacks, the eyes glowed with a blue light, vibrating as if they were about to explode. As the attacks ceased, dozens of those giant bats came flying out to gobble up the travelers.

"Now!" Ryan shouted.

The blue-haired wizard activated a protective barrier at the same instant, causing a blue wall to appear behind a magic circle. The bats that had advanced hit the wall like flies, the creatures were trying to bite the wall, hit the barrier, but couldn't get through. 

<Hahaha! They are like flies>

Seconds later, the eyes fired their attack. Two gigantic bolts of lightning were launched towards the squadron of Ranks S. That blue light was completely dominating the area, destroying the trees and illuminating that corrupted area, but not even a bit of that energy got through the barrier of that blue-haired mage.

Ryan's idea was effective, the bats that were grouped together, trying to attack with the barrier, were all killed. The eyes' attack was so brutal that when the lightning ended, not even bones were left of the monsters' bodies.

Only a little smoke and a little black glass that came up with the melted earth. "Turn off the barrier" one of the Rank S travelers said. Creating a sword of ice, that long white haired woman prepared herself for a confrontation, the moment the barrier was turned off, she jumped to the skies with surprising ease. With a single movement of her sword she cut both eyes in half, revealing the core crystals of those creatures.

Those monsters fell into the forest, shattering into several pieces. On the other side of the confrontation, Aether managed to contain the slime golems. Using his gravitational magic he managed to remove the core of those monsters. 

With that, a new notification appeared in front of Ryan's eyes.

The travelers continued to wait for an hour. The warriors who could fly explored the region of the abyss, but did not find a single creature. The whole region was completely silent, even the trees that normally pulsated with a flow of mana, were now quiet.

Again, the S Rank travelers grouped up, John Wrynn's assistant elf was commanding the group now "Any information, Aether?" The blond nodded, "I believe this is a cycle portal, I have no idea when the next one might start." The elf clicked her tongue *tsc*.

"We don't have anything to do, the guild will synchronize a quick portal and connect them to you with a bracelet. The new confrontation could start any minute, and I don't care what you guys are doing, as soon as the next cycle starts, show up here, everyone." She said, the elf didn't seem to be very excited. Ryan and the assistant exchanged a look, and then she said "I will send the shift schedule on your phone, it is essential that at least half of the Rank S stay inside the portal." 

The warriors nodded, confirming.

"Phew, she really is intense" Said the redhead who was wearing slippers. That boy then sat down next to Ryan and tried to start a conversation. "You're the newbie who used those cubes, right?".

Ryan sat down next to the redhead and nodded "They are an invention of mine" he said, pulling out one of the dwarf boxes from his inventory. Redhead's eyes widened and pulled the box from his hands. "Wait, that a dwarven box, dude that's fucking dope! How could you, how did you do this?"

The redhead's unexpected reaction created a smile on Ryan's face, "I just studied how dwarven magic worked." The redhead's face was again startled by that, so he stood up and stared into Ryan's eyes. With a serious face, the redhead said "Is that true?"

"Yeah..." Ryan said, putting the box away. The redhead then said to Ryan, in a much more serious tone than before "How much do you want to take a look in a dwarven relic I have?" 

<Hmm... A dwarven Relic...>

'Yeah, i'ts probably going to take a while...'

Placing one of his hands on his chin, Ryan said "at least ten thousand gold coins. This amount was high, but not absurd for an S rank traveler. Then the red-haired man held out his hand and said "deal".

Ryan accepted the handshake. "Oh, and the name is Rudy," the red-haired man said with a smile.
